Choosing stain for teak furniture
tunatussle replied to anduter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Why not get teak oil? I do my furniture set each spring at the shore and it lasts all summer. I also use on the boat coaming boards and it lasts about 3 months then scrub across gain with ammonia and reseal. If you want to seal it use Semco teak sealer. The boat deck surface lasts a full season in salt water conditions with lots of fish blood having hit it. -

Ken, Did you have any input on the ipe on the Ocean City boardwalk? -
If you are ever asked to wash the bottom of a boat with bottom paint make sure you have a tarp under the boat to catch any flakes. EPA doesn't like curious oxide on the ground.

John, Which Jersey shore are you going to? I am down in Ocean City for 2 weeks for tournaments but do not fish every day.

Is There A Mutant Strain of Mold Floating Around?
tunatussle replied to PressurePros's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I would like to know where the lumber was purchased. If it was from the south (New Orleans area) there was a lot of stuff in the water from Katrina and some of it may have found its way into the wood. -

tunatussle replied to PressurePros's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I wonder if the wood may have come from the south(New Orleans area) and has some type of growth from the area. -

A builder erected a fence and drove the posts into the ground with a tool that uses hydraulic oil. The oil sprayed all over the gel coat on my boat. Any ideas how to remove it? Boat soap does nothing, softscrub with bleach barely touches it. I do have pictures but cannot get them to post. Tried rubbing compound but there are faint marks left.

Engine wont start, can you help?
tunatussle replied to Mark Williamson's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Welcome to E-10 ethanol gas, did you put gas in since last May 06? If you mixed with MTBE gas you probably have sludge in your tank and carb. E-10 "scrubs the tank and all residue in the tank is emulsified. Also E-10 absorbs water. -
Get a marine catalog from Boaters World or West Marine or other supplier, tanks up to 175 gal any size you want. Be sure to get spark proof motor (marine) or BOOM.

tunatussle replied to drush's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Cover it with 3/4 tongue & groove plywood and fiberglass the entire deck, any color you want. Replace the rails and spindles with vinyl. In the end it will be cheaper and outlast anything else you do. We do them all the time on beach front houses. -
A 3000w inverter would put out about 1500w, as they are quoted at surge power. I tried a 2000w inverter on my boat for a 750w microwave hooked to 2 type 31 batteries, it did not work. Besides a good 3000+w inverter is about $600 same cost of a 2000w generator. The longer your feed line wire the more you lose in power from your battery.
