Let's pick a location for the Grime Scene Round Table
tunatussle replied to Beth n Rod's question in The Club House
Ken, Don't forget a 70 minute leisurely ride on the Cape May/Lewes Ferry is only 30 minutes away. Whale watching is available. AC has new outlet center. And Jerry Blavat may be around at his stomping grounds. Boxing venues at convention center in AC as well. -
There are many chances for fishing from inshore to offshore in the area. The only drawback is the time of year. We catch tuna and billfish up until the end of Sept then catch tuna alone until Nov. There is a shark fishery in the fall as the pelegics migrate south. Inshore we catch flounder up until the end of Oct. and weakfish until the end of Nov. The past few years we have had a sustained striper population in the area and many boats target them in the fall. In winter we catch tog and seabass off the wrecks offshore. There are boats sailing from the entire area, e-mail if you want specifics. ralkins@erols.com

Started as full time business 10 years ago at 49 when downsized by large bank. Had been washing boat hulls since 1986 during fall layups but not as a business only for boaters I knew.

Question About Property Values
tunatussle replied to PressurePros's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Ken Just think what 4 acres would be in Ocean City, then think of Avalon or Stone Harbor. Lot across from my house on 2nd st is for sale for 7+mil. -
First car was a 1962 Austin Healey 3000 that I stuffed with a 325HP 327 chevy engine in 1965. Had an entire chevy II deive train except the wire wheels which I proceeded to break the first time I gave the car full power. Favorite car 1965 Shelby Cobra with 427.

Poll: What type of pressure washing rig do you use?
tunatussle replied to mdspowerwashing's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I carry a 4gpm 3000psi machine that sits on the tailgate of the pickup and works well for houses and machinery. I carry in the same pu a smaller 2000psi machine that I lift out and carry to do a deck area. With the pu I am able to get into very tight driveways and do not have to worry about traffic. Most if not all the houses and commercials I do have city water so there is sufficient pressure from the client. -
Cupronol solid stain deck sealer
tunatussle posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Anyone run into Cupronol 100% Acrylic solid deck sealer in DARK BLUE? Customer wants to remove and go to natural. Told her don't count on it being possible. Blue was applied 3 years ago and is failing and pealing in some places and appears to adhered well in other areas. What would you use to remove? -
Usually take a vacation trip every 3 years but we spend spring, summer and fall daysa dn weekends in Ocean City NJ, March is a trip for offshore fishing to Hatteras NC.

It is called the Nigerian Connection and has been around since the early 80's a postal mail scam. I first ran into it as a banker when an eldely customer came in with the letter of the same nature. We turned it over to state officials and eventually went to feds. Never give numbers over the phone or in mail. You may be asked by callers to verify your credit cards by giving the last 3 numbers on the back of the card and they have all they need to scam you. It works by; The caller represents himself as a credit card co employee and says he is checking on excessive use on your card then he asks you to verify you have your card in your possession by asking you to turn over your card and reading him the digits in the signature line space.

As far as running out of water you will reach a point at which your demand will be more than your supply if the water source is less than 8gpm, in the case of 5gpm you would use the 200 gallons in 25 minutes and with 5gpm you would have an additional 16 minutes of recovery.
-
How are you going to keep the 200 gal tank replenished? If you hook to a faucet that supplies 5 gpm you will get about 40 minutes out of the tank before you have to shut down for lack of water. You are only replenishing 5/8 of the tank or 60%

Why do people buy on price only?
tunatussle replied to SDI's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
They must be educated in order to make a wise decision on how to spend their money and get the most for what they spend. It is your job to educate them as to why a pricier job is better in the long run than having a low baller just show up and take their money. As the above reference points out the 50 cent bar would appear to be the choice but the 50 cent bar may use a lower grade chocolate. -
Are you trying to run a 12 volt pump from a portable battery? If so you can get a 400 amp battery pack and put either clips on the wire ends or attach a cigarette lighter end and plug it into a battery pack. I use one when fishing overnight in the canyons and it powers 3-12volt under water lights all night and still has power left.

What is it with washing houses?
tunatussle replied to Richard Ivy's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Richard, I just returned from a trip to England/Scotland. I did notice that most of the houses are stucco or brick. In the US many houses are clad with vinyl siding or aluminum siding. These materials do get moldy and need to be washed. I did notice that many homes in Edinburgh and Glasgow were of a material that looked like granet rock. There is a lot of black soot or stain on the buildings that could be removed by power washing, but due to the relative age I would be very hesitant to clean them. Some are hundreds of years old. As for roofing materials we use asphault shingles that are flat and overlap each other. Your roofs mostly were clay tile. -
Fished on Monday, 20 kt winds, temp 27, water temp 42, wore Grundens bib pants, Grundens Polar Fleece top, and Sorel Artic felt lined boots, was toasty all day. Sleeves ends have a 3" neopreme cuff.
-
Grundens or Viking, make many classes of gear from very heavy lined with polar fleece to thin, but my pair have lasted for years both washing and fishing. Search web for dealers, or go to a commercial fishing gear store. Fishermans Supply, Finest Kind Offshore Tackle.

Not sure about kerosene but I put stabil in diesel on boat, a small bottle treats 225 gals so be sure of mixture amounts.

using a 55 gal barrell for a water tank
tunatussle replied to desi's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Look to 12 volt Jabsco pumps for higher output. I have one now that delivers 6GPM. I bought a commercial fishing pump from Surflow that has two pumps with one motor that delivers 8 gpm at 50 psi. It is not available at regular boating shops but I got it through a dealer in South Jersey. -
