  1. If the customer will pay I would try safe wash. If not just wait and it will get less worse. I have a customer with oak trees and they sit on the deck all winter and tannins leach out of the leaves and produce patterns on the deck. It is nature. Also the pressure treated tends to pick up more stuff than the harder woods
  2. What do you think?

Painters will tell you to start at the top and work down. Cover well with drops. Doing the inside first helps on the spindles so you get less on your hands, then do the faces of the spindles. That is my opinion, curious if anyone really disagrees
  3. I lost a deal on Ready seal after explaining it is Low Voc and meets standards in CT then they had some one put on another product. Doing other work at the house they now have a squeegee on the deck so they can walk on it after the push the water off since it is so slippery. So this deal was a great on to lose and learn from. Have another one that is like this and forms a sheet of ice in winter so they can not walk on it. Trying to find out product name but both customers are not at all happy.
  4. What template are you using? Some are faster than others
  5. Artillery Fungus Removal

I would also love to know since there are a lot of incidents of it in the North East and no one knows how to get it off. Also make sure you charge a lot for a service that no one can provide. If you want I will sell a job in CT for 200.00 per hour if you can do it. Have a condo project with a lot of it all over. Heard stories that some houses have had to be resided due to some much damage, but have only seen some scatered AF on a house so far.
  6. New guy could use some advice

I have a similar unit and do well with a tan proportioner 1.5 gallons of Power House from sunbright 3 gallons of 12% bleach and the rest water in a 5 gallon bucket. This is for house wash and gives me about 2 % final bleach. Hope this helps
  7. Reclaiming water from siding

As said above Pre-wetting any vegetation is the key. Then if you are concerned come back and wet it again during the wash you will be fine. The result is what sits on the plant is diluted and washed off. I did a project over very expensive boxwood hedges for a number of days and it all went fine. Supper hot days means you rinse the plants more. Especially with an x-jet you can switch to clean water easily and wet the plants if you think it is needed. As you go along you will learn how much you have to do. Flowers and annuals are the most susceptible to the chemicals so pay the most attention there. It is worth a little extra clean water than replacing plants.
  8. A Service Magic Tip

The other way I use the internet for gutter cleaning I look up the house on Microsoft live maps and can see the house in this area with no trees and know enough to quote the job over the phone. If I need more details I check Zillow for the square footage of the house and it tells me enough to make a good judgment. I do not have that much of a problem with wasted leads from competitors. If so I get a credit.
  9. Robot

I can not believe that it would be anything more than a toy. It does not look like it does much of a job in the video. The company that is promoting it has done a great job in creating internet Buzz about it.
  10. I go to a local pool maintenace company and buy it. Also some pool supply companies have cake form that is too concentrated that you would have to dilute.
  11. Cleaning Out Gutters

I use a 32' aluminum with a stand off and built in leg levelers. This alows me to reach most all houses in this area. It it is a large mcmansion with a walk out basement then it will not be tall enough and I pass on the job. So fare have not lost any jobs due to not reaching it. I hand clean the gutters and put debris in a bucket. No blowers since I do not want to clean the yard. I sweep up all walks and decks if stuff falls. I also use a 18' folding little giant step ladder that is lighter for most of the low work. The third ladder is a light 20' aluminum ladder for working off second story roofs when needed to reach the gutters on second floor. I carry up one section of this ladder when needed. All ladders have stand offs and I also carry a corner stand off for the odd time it just needs to be used to get to a wierd spot when the stand off can not go onto a slate roof
  12. Respirator ?

I did a roof job yesterday in the sun and was very impressed with how much a mask can help. I am told that the key is get one for organic chemicals and it just made the whole job that much more pleasant with out the chocking and caughing. The customer stayed away and I got the job done fast. In New England I thing the customer respects being carefull and is impressed with knowing the contractor is being carefull. I use a full face shield or safety glasses also just to cut down on mist exposure to the eyes or splashes. Why risk it. Next I am going to try disposable white water repellent cover alls to keep from wreaking cloths as much. Since I was in a rush I grabbed it at Sherwin Williams store I deal with and with discount the price was not too bad especially considering how much cleaner the air was. Next thing to add is vanilla to the clorine as I saw on another post.
  13. extension pole

I buy poles from a local janitorial supply house that sells to window washing guys and floor care people. He stocks parts for them so find it works out real well. I dropped on off the roof and broke the plastic connector to the brush and was able to get a new one is 5 minutes so could still use the pole and not have to discard.
  14. Gutter Stuff.....

I have had good responce from customers that have bought leafdefier from me. It is easy to install and a good add on to the gutter cleaning.
  15. extention poles and brushes

Also check with a good sized ganitorial supply house. I have one near buy and they go a lot with window cleaning guys so have a number of poles and replacement parts
