  1. Hi. Writing from New Olreans, La. Just wondering if any of you pressure wash houses, mainly 2 stories and up, on windy days? Are you concerned about the neighbor's property, vehicles, etc.? I am considering not washing on windy days so I don't wash the house 3 doors down and coat their auto's with detergent. I am asking due to a complaint we had. Thanks for the input. Mark, La.
  2. Writing from New Orleans, La. Been doing a few hurricane clean up jobs. Search and rescue teams painted signs and symbols on many houses to designate if there were any bodies in the homes following the flooding. What is a good local product to remove this spray paint from brick? Also, there is a water line present on most houses due to nasty water sitting for a good period of time. What is good for removing this residue- white line on red brick; brown lines also. We have been using 12.5% chlorine. Any chemical tips? Thanks! Mark N.O., La.

    Hi. First time posting. Writing from New Orleans, La. Currently looking for a house wash mixture to remove not only algae and mildew, but dirt and road film/carbon deposits. Currently, we are using 12.5% bleach and liquid laundry detergent. Have tried Emulsifier in the past. Good results, only it gets so hot down here that it dries on the windows before we can rinse it off. It leaves a residue that needs to be buffed off. Any recommendations as to a good quality house wash mixture that is cost efficient and cleans well? Privately e-mail me if you prefer. Thanks! Mark, N.O., La.
  6. Hi. We have been using a trailer (6"x10") mounted hot water unit for the last 4 years. We want to get a larger trailer- 6'x16' for more hauling space. We have a 200 gal water tank, but we are thinking of eliminating it because we never use it. Any ideas on how to set up this new rig- types of tanks, chemical tanks, etc. Also, are your chemical tanks only used when downstreaming chems. We never downstream, only x-jet?   7. Hi. I am new to this site. Lots of good info. I notice many of you get much higher rates than we get in our area. I am in N.O., La. and this area has always been in a slow economic state. We compete against companies who charge as little as $40 per hr. The average seems to be about $65 per hr. There is no way we can bid our jobs at $100 per hr and higher and land jobs. What do you consider a decent hourly rate for a 2 man crew? Also, I saw some who say they rarely use ladders. Almost every 2 story home we clean requires a ladder in order to clean the 2nd level porch balconies, railings, columns, etc. I cannot, even using the x-jet, see not using a ladder many times.   9. What is do you recommend to remove heavy black mildew and algae from a wooden deck? I understand bleach may be harmful to the wood fibers, but what else can be applied to the surface? Thanks! Mark, La.
  10. Although we have been doing this for 3 years, I feel we need to rethink the way we figure our prices. We really need some advcie on how to accurately determine our prices. Some areas needing ideas: - how do you determine your hourly rate- per unit, per man, etc. For example, we charge $60.00 hr/per unit. With 2 men working, one as a helper, how would I charge? - how do I determine a minimum charge? a flat rate trip charge? - while figuring costs, how do I determine how much of the insurance cost applies to the job?
