We don't do them anymore, but when we did the goal was to remove the debris and make sure the gutter flowed with water (ie downspouts ran free of debris). Never scrubbed the interiors. No one sees it. However, people DO ask for black streak removal on the exteriors, which we do often with house washes. Beth

Cleaner in a pinch!
Beth n Rod replied to sjcgpainting's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
You can use the oxiclean in a pinch yes. I would still neutralize behind it. Beth -
I would urge caution. some gutters have weak paint and you can actually strip it accidentally. Been there done that. Rod!~

Deck Stain Mistake! What should I do to save this project?
Beth n Rod replied to byrdiblack's topic in DIY'ers - Ask The Pro's
To be clear.....I think when James says heating the oil up, he's talking about storing it in a room in a house so it is warmer than it would be if garage kept for example. We are not talking about putting it on a pot and heating it on the stove. Beth -

I agree Russ. But unfortunately the title can only be changed the first 30 minutes after posting. It's a VB thing. I can't even get to it as admin. I tried. Going after work when there is no RFP is called......cold calling. Period. Like I said I just found it odd that of all industries, our was the one mentioned. Beth -

I was just surprised when I saw it in the middle of the article. You rarely see anything having to do with pressure washing in major news. Beth -

Congrats to Seymore too! All the work in this thread was good solid work. And Rick, it's fine with me not to win. For all of these jobs the customer was the winner. They look really good! Beth -

Okay I found one. It was not chosen because it is a eye popping deck, it was chosen because the wood - Cypress - is rarely seen around here for building and because the Japanese look to the back of the house makes the architecture interesting to me. We stripped sikkens off the deck. We installed Armstrong Clark Amber. Enjoy. Beth -

Significant white residue after cleaning deck
Beth n Rod replied to JJC77's topic in DIY'ers - Ask The Pro's
James, among the rest have pointed to the cause as bleach effect and I would say that it was too strong as well, or left on too long and not completely rinsed to avoid the damage. If you have not sealed the deck, repeat the process with a stripping solution but cut the strength with water to make it only 1:4 (stripper:water) and then once you have brushed it and washed it, follow with Oxalic acid neutralizer/brightener at labeled strength and allow to dwell until the wood returns to its light yellow color. Reapply as indicated by darker patches of wood which indicates the neutralization is incomplete. Rinse well. Rent a square buff sander and use 60grit paper to remove the fuzz, blow off the deck and then stain. Rod!~
