cleanhoods got a reaction from 577-Jersey in Purple Power
Purple power sucks, one the dye in it is just extra to clean off and if you boost it with SH the purple gets chunky and messy.
@Adam And are you referring to SH as Sodium Hypochlorite or SH as Sodium Hydroxide?
A buddy of mine uses simple green for house wash less corrosive and safer.

Have u ever tried an injector? They r amazing and u can get a long range nozzle to reach the high parts. Just my two cents.

cleanhoods reacted to Beth n Rod in hose reels: hand crank or electric?
When we first started out, I used to just hand roll all my hoses.
But then again, I used to carry them from the front to the rear and back of each house/townhouse configuration we did.

    KILLED my back!

Never got into the electric reels. Bought my first one in 2000, 200' Rapid Reel and it is still in service to this day.
In 2004, bought a 3 stack by hosetract and it is still in use as well.

When it comes to this topic, I think it is going to come down to: How much hose do you use on a regular basis?
    50' ? hand roll...easy-hand roll!
    100'? hand roll or reel?
200'?   Yeah, you bet a reel!

Did you prewet the windows? A dry window in direct sunlight can get very hot. It is possible that applying soap directly to a hot window could cause the soap to flash dry. It can happen in seconds. Always prewet windows. If there is a chance that overspray can land on anything that it should not be on, then prewet those surfaces too.

I have used espec's limonene in house washing, but the problem I have is the instructions only pertain to how to mix it up to make 55 gallons. Thats it. There are no instructions on ratios to use or what it is designed specifically to work on. Plus, no msds. All that fancy lingo in the ad and blamo disappointo.
If you are looking for Limonene to work on mildew or algae, it doesnt. If you are looking for it to clean something, there is nothing stating what it is supposed to clean. Its advertised for house washing, but when I wash a house, it is to remove mildew/algae or oxidation. There are 2 different methods involved in the removal of each. Alone, limonene has not been effective on either. As we all know, dirt falls off the siding just from hot water alone. Mildew/algae need a strong oxidizer to kill it in order to remove it easily, otherwise, you have to beat it off with high pressure (2500psi+) Oxidation is removed well under a 2 step acid/alkaline process and rinsed with hot water under moderate pressure (600-900 psi)
After trying Limonene at a number of concentrations, it now sits on a shelf waiting for a qualified use as a degreaser.

I wonder if you have a fire cleaning a hood God forbid, if your insurance would cover you? Just because ones have liability insurance you have to read the fine writing to see what they cover. This is why I like JW insurance because they clearly spell out what your covered for.

We've been with them for a little over a year. Had two other agencies in this area. No service whatsoever. And that was with no claims. Made me think "what if I had a problem?" Joe Walters has been very attentive so far. At least that makes me feel more secure. A guy told me one time "If your customers are bothering you, ignore them. They'll go away!"

I would rather use a local Company, nothing against JWA. Our Agent there takes care of us with no problems. Just a personal preference.

Thanks for posting Marko! I wish more people who do not want or use hose reels would "Come Out Of The Closet".
My company cleans more roofs here in the Tampa area then anyone I know, and we have been w/o hose reels for over 5 years now, and never looked back!
You will never see a hose reel on any of my roof cleaning trucks, ever again.

I have tried 3 electric hose reels for roof cleaning, and every one of them failed soon.
In fact, hose reels themselves soon fail, when faced with the roof cleaning chemicals.
We eliminated hose reels nearly 5 years ago, and never looked back.
But then, we are roof cleaners, not pressure washers.
We don't pull and reel up our hoses 10 times a day!

Hose Reels restrict flow, unless they have large internal manifolds, and they rob pressure.
Not a big deal with a PW, but it can be a big deal with a low pressure roof cleaning pump.

SH is both a liquid and a Gas, and the fumes are very corrosive. Once these fumes find their way into your electric motor, bye bye electric hose reel.

In a SH delivery system, the LESS connections you have, the better!
Less to fail, less chance of leaks.

Hey Neal I would look for a hand crank stainless steel hose reel because they won't rust. The electric hose reals which I never owned one so I'm only guessing here but if there always out in the weather I would be leery of them always working right and there pretty expensive.
I would look to go to one of the distributors here and see what type of non rusting hose real they sell.
    Good luck.

You can develop a whole business around front doors which companies have. Deck stains don't work well unless the doors have complete cover from the weather. The doors are usually to dense or to hard to except enough stain . Plus your dealing with an area of 30 square feet which presents a whole bunch of different variables to contend with.
I have removed the Doors to work on them . Used paste to scrape off the finishes and steam . Lots of sanding . Many coats of a sealer.
I have seen doors companies remove doors to bring back to their shops and put up plywood to block and protect the doorway until they finish. Very high end niche market and specialization .

I couldn't talk my neighbor out of using Restore completely, but was able to at least get her to test it on some wood lawn chairs first.  After doing the chairs, she finally agreed on what I was trying to tell her.  It is a terrible product plus looks awful, and like Beth said "If the coating is not permeable.....RUN."

All of these companies keep trying to develop a product that can beat Mother Nature.  The fact is Mother Nature will eventually win.

We completely restored this deck. We set all the exposed nail heads and screws, added screws where needed, stripped what was left of the old failed and inferior sealer, cleaned, brightened and brushed the furrs and lightly sanded the extremely weathered wood, replaced a few bad boards, added a new rail cap all the way around, added structural support to the poorly designed hand rails and finally finished with AC! This made for one happy customer! I learned so much about what to do, what not to do and how to fix mistakes on this project it is unreal! I still have another deck and a few hundred feet of shadow box fence before this entire job is complete so I will have more b4 and after shots when it is all done. Thanks to all of you who have helped me along as I have worked this job!

I am too Beth. A storm is brewing here as well snowed a little yesterday and the heavy snow comimg today through thursday the worse being Wednesday. they say 10 inches..lol.I am just ready for warm season, man winter costs me at least an hour more of work considering you have to drain all hoses and treat machine every job. Plus those cold nights just suck sometimes especially when things go wrong. Plus winter is a different process of cleaning considering you are forming an ice rink somewhere. Anyhow all be safe think first.

A license cost 25 bucks here. Liablity insurance for a one man show runs about 400 bucks a year. Insurance and license will not prevent that kind of work. I price everything over the phone, and I don't do work like that. The BBB is a scam outfit. They were just exposed here in Raleigh for deceptive practices. Most savvy homeowners know they are fraud. So, what is the answer to the problem. There isn't one. Some people do bad work. That's it. You getr a bad plumber or mechanic sometimes. Luck of the draw. Be glad it wasn't your house and move on. Life is to short to worry about what other companies are doing.

We see this a lot too!!! Bad for Homeowners, Great for our Business!!! Unfortunately Homeowners have what I call "The Wal-Mart Mentality" low prices all the time. There's a time and place to save, and then there's a time and a place to spend. I preach this to the Homeowner all the time. Some get it some don't, some call back with stories like this one.
Is it bad for our Industry's Image...Yes. But we improve that image by doing the job right. Educate first, then sell. We've talked a lot of Homeowners out of this same mistake through education.
    Great Post!!!!

This note is to home owners who think that the lowest price, the fastest availability and the prices for wood care given over the phone are the way to go. These photos represent a company operating in our area illegally, that matches the above criteria. Sadly the photos are typical of the work, and we repair this type of damage on a regular basis every year. This deck was washed and sealed the same day.....if you want to call it that.
Ask to see a copy of the license. Ask to see a copy of the liability insurance. Check the Better Business Bureau rating. Don't get burned.
