Beer: Heineken and Colt45 are dishwater. It's HomeBrew for me! Low pressure rinsing: Yep. I try and schedule it, but there are times that just won't wait 'til 12:00...

I've used three reputable processors over the years, and I can say that your expereince is the exception to the rule. The reality is that the power lies with the customers issuing bank. You can appeal, but if their bank declines your CC processor isn't going to eat the charge, you are.

Russ, Do they make QC's that way?
  4. New Competition

My thoughts exactly. Cold water, no soap, 3500psi. Wow, look at all that failed paint peeling off. Before I started this biz, I had a PW'er strip the paint from a door frame to the wood. 1yr old paint, new primed wood for a base. Oh yea, that was a low pressure soap wash.
  5. Where do you hang out your shingle?

Home based here. I have a 3 acre property. The house occupies the front half, the pw biz the back, seperated by a 6ft privacy fence. The single drive goes past the house, turns to gravel past the fence, and terminates in a cul-de-sac at the back of the property. Chem storage is in an 8x10 shed, and the office is in my basement.
  6. Connecting extensions

I used to keep a 12', a 6', and a 3' on the truck and QC'd them together whenever necessary (rare with an x-jet). The 12'er broke (aluminum), but I still use the 6+3 every so often. Works great, and much easier than a backbreaker wand. No need to thread it together. Put 1/4" QC's on all of them and mix and match as desired. Make sure that the top lance is not bent at an angle, or it gets squirly. And if you drop it hard or impact a tree, etc. the lance will often break off at the threads.

I concur. If you can afford the 5.5, get it. If you get the 4.0, you will later wish you had gotten the 5.5 I ran a 4.0 for 2 years. The extra $ for the 5.5 will pay itself back in a few jobs. Only get the 4.0 if you cannot otherwise afford a machine.

Thanks, I've got a very nice Eltron and a slick RS-232 scale to go with it.

I understand what you are saying, but if it is NOT delivered (I.e. lost) it simply says No Info. And from my experience with a few hundred packages, even known good deliveries show "No Info" about 50% of the time. I switched to UPS years ago, and have never looked back.
  11. Customers, just gotta vent.

Yep. It was a $5 item and Priority was 2 day delivery for $4. Fast and cheap. UPS 2 day was $13.57

That may be the book answer, and what your processor told you, but it's a long way from reality. The burden of proof is on the merchant and the cardholders issuer is judge, jury, and executioner. Without a signature and a card in hand you are screwed. Customers can even acknowledge receipt and just claim "not as advertised"... Mine too. That really sent her off the deep end. And FWIW, it's a violation of their cardholder agreement but not a criminal offense. And even in the event of blatant fraud, you'll never get it enforced since the AHJ is your local police and they will NEVER fly there to make an arrest. Trust me, been there done that. With blatant fraud, and not a customer dispute.

I know she's the exception. It's just rare that someone gets me rattled, and this lady really did. I kissed her a** from square one. I sent 2 replacements with no Q's asked, spent $30+ in shipping for a $50 order, etc. And she STILL behaves like I kicked her dog. P.S.: For my debate buddies here that are still laughing over "It's just rare that someone gets me rattled". It's true, I'm a really mellow guy. I enjoy a good debate because it challenges the brain and forces one to evaluate ones own position. I may sound really torqued about something, but I rarely am.

Pet products related to odor removal and prevention. Check out our site at: www.OdorDestroyer.com I'd love to hear any feedback or new product suggestions anyone has. It's our baby, and does as well as pressure washing. In fact, in my 5 year plan the OD site surpasses the PW business and I sell the PW business to my helper. Philip

You and I differ greatly. First, I make no bones about one big assumption on my part. That being this; Everyone values their own life more than that of someone else. And a man who places so little value on their own life as to risk it over material items will have no problem taking mine if I stumble up on him. More importantly, I view life, liberty, and property as the three fundamental rights of a free man. And I believe that every man has the right to use lethal force to defend my fundamental rights. Finally, to take property is to take life/liberty. A man labors to obtain property and he can never get that time back. When you steal his property, you have stolen time from his life. Time that I could have used otherwise to play with my family, read a book, play chess, or just sit around and drink beer. No matter what the item was, I exchanged part of my life to obtain it and the thief has no right to take that life from me.

One interesting note; On rare occasion I get a customer who goes nutso on me before we fill the order. In these cases, I inform them politely that we would rather not do business with them, and that their order has been cancelled and money refunded. You should hear them go thermonuclear when they get "kicked out" of my store.
  17. Customers, just gotta vent.

Oh yes. We serviced over 3500 customers last year alone. There is definitely a time not to be nice. But I have noticed a disturbing trend in online retailing. That being to initially approach any problem (perceived or real) with a demand letter. And of course, include the ubiqutious threat of a chargeback. Don't get me wrong, complaints are still the exception to the rule, but those who do complain are getting far more aggressive and likely to start off with belligerence and progress to insanity.

Then I re-iterate my previous statement. MOVE. As for the rest, I completly concur shooting a fleeing man is wrong. But I have SERIOUS issues with these items: 1. unless you can prove [...] your life was in grave danger 2. unless [...] there is evidence that your life was in grave danger 3. you had no safe means of egress If there are thieves on my property, IMHO it is a given that they pose a significant threat to my life. As for evidence, simply look the pipe wrench and tire tools they are holding. Obviously taken from my tool box just before I shot them. :) AND FOR THE LAST ONE: I can only say BULLS**T. I will not EVER run from my property avoid a confrontation with thieves. I'm sorry, but that is liberal, soft spoked, anti-gun CRAP. It is a bit different for a law enforcement officer. He cannot shoot to protect my stuff or property, only to protect human life. Probably. It is also my understanding that NY elected Hillary Clinton to the senate... Easily fixed. Just call 1-800-RENT-A-TRUCK, UHaul, or Allied Van lines.

Gotcha. You're not itching for a fight, but you aren't afraid of one either.

I agree. And if I was in my present truck, there would have been several greasy messes to clean up. But in that situation, I was sitting dead still in a 4cyl. Short of redline & dump (which I did not think of at the time), the truck would not move without stalling. Darndest thing I've ever seen, as I would have anticipated the first few to take so much pressure as to be injured and move. But it didn't work that way. So, I pulled out the old peacemaker and the crowd parted like the red sea. My only thoughts about Reginald D. is that he mis-judged that the severity of situation and decided not to employ deadly force. Bad call... Having been there, I can tell you that mob dynamics are strange and can turn in a second. If you ever feel seriously threatened in a mob situation, use whatever means are neccessary to extricate youself from the situation. Lethal solutions may seem too extreme at one second, and not be available to you any longer in the next.
  21. If you are in good with property management companies, ask them to keep their eyes open for you. Many times perfectly good extinguishers must be removed and replaced from large institutions because of code, age, etc. My neighbor works for a big hotel chain, and two years ago they had to replace all 200 because the mounting brackets were not up to code. Either the would not retrofit or it was cheaper to replace than retrofit. In any case, I picked up 4 like-new medium sized commercial units for free. As a bonus, they even had mounting hardware and complete service records.
  22. Not that I'd want to be holding it, but the results of a catastrophic seperation look a bit more violent than the seperation really is. I have on more than one occassion intentionally blown apart a coupler when it was stuck. Just twist it a bit, lock back the collar, fire up the machine, and wait. It typically takes 2-3 minutes and pops apart. Since the pressure goes to zero almost instantly after seperation, the couplers rarely move more than 6-12 inches.

Here's my opinion. MOVE. Any state that fears an armed populous is a state to be feared.

With all due respect, then why have it? I have three times. I remember all three well. One was similar to AC's situation. Thanks to the convergence of a few one way streets and my ignorance of the area, I ended up in the middle of a race oriented protest. They wer pissed, needed a whipping boy, and I was handy. I attempted to drive on, but the power of the masses exceeded the power of my 4cyl (same truck AC). The truck started rocking and I had visions of being upside down on fire. Out came the 38 and I informed those by the window that I was leaving one way or another.

If anyone every does hear the click-clack of my pump, they're just about to have a VERY bad day. The range isn't so great, but the spread is very nice!
