I just started my own business: Applied Pressure Cleaning here in sunny, hurricane ridden, Orlando, FL. I'm looking to go full time if i could just learn to get more work...
  1. Higher Learning or not?

I'm a couple of semesters away from my BS in Mechanical Engineering. I hate school and learning but have found with the degree you will make more $$$ working for a company. I really believe that its not all paper work its how you can get the job done, and if they had hands on in college they would have alot more students.
  2. Apartment Bids

Degraffreed, new to the business but my two cents would be to take what you want hourly and add atleast 15 dollars to it. That way you make what you need and always have a little to fall back on just in case it takes longer for a building or two.
  3. Advice on power washing wood home

If you do decide to d.i.y. let us know how it turned out and maybe buy us a beer or three later for advice, Times are tough right now,LOL. Just kidding have fun and dont let the chlorine dry on the windows! :)
  4. Estimates - how do you handle them?

The big problem that i am having right now is that i am getting a few calls but everyone wants me to give an estimate over the phone. I spoke to another company in my area and he said the same thing. Does this happen alot to everyone else and if so what approach do you take on handling it. I have called other pw companys in the newspaper that give out estimates of $130 firm for a 3 bed 2 bath home and they clean the driveway and sidewalks for free. Is this a crock of s*%t or what? Do i tell people that they get what they pay for? or do i grab these knuckleheads and kick the tar out of them? Sorry for the hostility but i have to make a living, and can't do it when people are lowballing in high scale neiborhoods. Just my 2 cents. I hope that someone can give me the solution to this!
  5. Scary

just my two cents. i happen to live in Orlando and if he was travelling from diney world to daytona or vice versa i believe it. There is a town by the name of Cassadaga half way in between if this mans family stopped there i will totally believe the story. I went there as a high schooler and it was crazy. There are psychics or as i like to call them psychos all over the place. I kid yall not they knew all my friends names when we got there. they had a hotel that we stayed at and heard sounds all night long, therefore we just stayed up all night drinking. That place is all over the web and is very believable from the hotel to the psychics to the haunted graveyard. I'm a definite believer.
  6. What chemicals?

to tell you the truth i haven't ran into anything that i couldn't get off with my three main chemicals except for all the grease on the driveway. I like to use chlorine and a squirt of dawn dishwashing liquid, Purple stuff for the gutters and driveway grease spots, and acids for the rust. I don't do decks that often but when i do i just use chlorine w/ alot of dawn.
  7. before/after cleaning pics

do they make defurring pads for hook and loop random orbit sanders? just wondering because i have never used one. I have a boat dock that i will be trying my wood techniques on soon and its old wood so i am sure i will be needing one. Also how good will sand paper work just in case and if so what grit is recomended?
  8. X-Jet and Shur-Flo

the shurflo pump is an electric motor that pulls chemicals out of your tank just like your pressure washer except it runs off of a battery instead of gas. It usually very low psi and gpm. There are lots of posts about shurflo pumps in the search function.
  9. Missing Bill Clinton

to each is their own. I do know that billery will run for next term, and will not get as close as skerry did, or atleast we better pray. If we do get her as a president, it will be hard to pass a bill thru congress due to the over amount republicans in seats. If she does win i will be working under the table until i get welfare, and thats a promise.
  10. A World meeting for all Powerwashers

sorry if i affended any of you, that was by far not my intentions. I was just stating a fact that most round tables are set up by just taking the initiative to say this is where its going to be, this is the time it starts, be there or be square.:) I understand that some can't and won't make it, and some won't be happy unless its in a place they desire most. Over all everyone who wants to attend would have to sacrifice their time. like the state or not:) Once again sorry, my message wasn't intended to tick anyone off.
  11. A World meeting for all Powerwashers

Everybody sounds like a bunch of kids. Look when someone throws together a round table all we need to know is one big city YES or NO. If it overweighs it with yes it happens if no then it doesn't. If people care enough they will show. I guarantee you will have a big turnout. Most people here have a family with kids. We could have it in Orlando Right next to universal studios and a hop and a skip from disney. We could do it in Vegas, but unless your kids enjoy watching mommy and daddy gamble all day, it doesn't sound fun. We can go to new york that way we will never run out of a city to clean :) Or we can go to california where we can still have disney land and worry about junky trunks and funky town rap group robbing us. :) Just my two cents. I do know i will not be showing up to a mid-state to be bored for a few days.
  12. Cordless Tools

Always remember you get what you pay for. Not to say that a craftsman drill will not do the job you need, but that there are better tools out there. I'm a tool technician for my day job, while pressure cleaning on the side. There is a reason dewalt only has a 1 year warranty on their tools, while milwaukee has a 5 year. If your looking for my opinion go with a better brand. That way not only will you be able to get the job done, but you won't get laughed at by other contractors. Milwaukee has a 28 volt lithium battery tool pack that is lighter than all 18 volt tools on the market. The price of that in a 4 pack is about $600, maybe more. It doesn't come out till October.
  13. Footwear

I wear Justins boots, and i have found that skateboarding shoes are most comfortable to wear on the roof. there is no ankle support, and lots of grip. I wear Vans
  14. What's you vehicle of choice...and why?

Tony, I already have 66,000 miles on my HD and its a 2002. I just put a chip in it and have seen a little bit more pick up power this weekend. I'll tell you how much fuel i save or burn soon now that i have it. soon i hope to get the new flowmaster exaust, due to the first one that they made being under engineered.
  15. What's you vehicle of choice...and why?

I have a 2003, Chevy 2500HD that I absolutely love. There is a couple of negatives though. Bad turning radius, and horrible gas mileage. 8 gpm in the city, and 13 on the highway. What can i say thats what you get when you want power. I will say it doesn't squat, and doesn't bog down. It's like i've always said: If you can't aFORD it, DODGE it and buy a Chevy. :lgbounces
