You can always contact the distributors and ask them for a sample, and decide that way. Sometimes the proof is in the pudding. Seeing it firsthand, and then deciding.

In my book, you can't go wrong with RS, as long as you do a proper preperation on the wood first. I have had great luck with RS for several years. However some products may work better in your region. I have always used it in the South. You can learn more about wood prep in the wood forum or search button. Others will chime in on their favorite. But RS is my go to choice in most every case.

Please post here so I can compile a sub list and contact list for a lunch box meeting or RT at the end of Summer. I am on the injured list right now and don't want to lose anymore customers due to theirs and my schedule. this will be helpful for all of us if we get injured or too stacked up with projects. Just make a post that has your info on it, and I will copy and save and keep you posted. Thanks.

Extra Long Spraying Lances for Spraying Stain???
Adrian replied to fireandrain's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
At Tractor supply they have 6 ft, and 8 foot lengths. simply attach qc's on either end and you should be good to go. I generally use the 6 ft wand that you saw from shane. he set me up with one a few years back and I am counting my blessings that it is still holding up. I have no Idea where to find them and hope it holds up for another season. Also you may want to check at Northern tool as they have a pretty good variety of lengths, but most are plastic construction. Or search for the phelps wand and that may be the direction you can go as well. I simply suggest using the variable degree cone tip as you can simply dial in the desired spray pattern without switching tip constantly. It's like spraying two coats at once and then push pad in the boards for the that heavenly glow effect. Saves alot of time, but that is just me saying..... Also IMO brass is the way to go. But you can also get the plastic variable cone tip and they work just as well but requires a bit more cleanup afterwards. They cost about 3.00 bucks and are good to have as a backup tip. -
Why not just spray a liquid Carnuba wax coating on the vertical surfaces? Just a thought.

First Wood of the season.
Adrian replied to 4000psi's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Wood is where it's at. I am finding that the right bid to the right customer, can draw more income than some commercial projects that you have to wiait much much longer to get paid for. Wood is where it is at. Bro. Keep diggin. It looks great!!! -
Just try to remain calm when you see the little red light at the top of the camera. Try and at least script out your name, company and phone number. And for goodness sakes don't Hi my Dane is name and I wash pressure stuff for pregos to have babies here. Script out what your personal info is. say it to your self several times before the interview. The reporter will take care of the rest i.e. How does it make you feel to be taking time out of your schedule for this cause blah blah. It will come to you. Company name Phone number and your name are all you need to focus on for the tv interview. The newpaper stuff is not nearly as much pressure. Remember to smile, did I say millions, I meant BILLIONS. you will do fine. Be like the guy on fight club who looks for the talk groups to be involved with just so he can sleep at night..... you remember. Look for charitable causes, they qualify as write offs at the end of the year too. Get a recording and post it here so we can laugh at..... I mean watch it with you. It will be cool. bro, you'll be great. Try and get them to catch some washing footage as well. Keep us posted.

What Charlie said Dane. Contact the local TV station and anyone who will listen. I did the very same thing in ATL one year with a painting company for an invalids house and made darn sure they interviewed me as well. Right there in front of God and Jesus. I made sure they knew it was completely for the family and from the heart. Make sure when you give your info to the interviewer that they have your Name as the owner, Company name and phone number. It may only be flashed on the tv screen for a matter of seconds, but think how much money those few seconds would have cost you for a TV spot. And Smile..... there will only be MILLIONS of people watching you. Congrats, call everyone. The ROI will keep you hopping for longer than you can imagine. 30 or 40 bucks of materials for a house wash and the exposure will be where the real payoff is. That's cheaper than running a newspaper ad. Go for it brother, make it an annual thing as well. Tell everyone. can you say GOOOOrilla marketing at is finest. Nothing Tacky about it bro. It's a Human interest story and the media eats that stuff up. plus it is a good cause ( forgot to mention that)

and don't forget about the one called deadbeat.com ( revamping, but he has posted here before)

Well thanks to you Beth, this is the first I have seen of it. I like the idea and have always been a firm believer that this sort of service can be helpful to the contractor base. There are literally people that hire contractors with no intention of paying them for their services. Contracts mean nothing to them. Thx.

Yeah Mel, my bad, it is after the pump. I still use both methods though and I didn't mean to respond incorrectly. Just was saying to each his own I guess.
-
I think most of the arguments between the two are: With DS, there is degradation of pump and hose with xj, there is the pesky pale of chems that need to be carried around. (side note: bungee the pale to a two wheeler and run at it) ( plus more hose can be added to reach up on roof, it will still draw ) Both apps have their respective place in the industry. I have tried and use both approaches. They both work fine for me. However I do love my xjet for spraying chems other than 12%, such as hydroxide and oxalic with the close range nozzle for wood and such. I refuse to DS those chems through my pump and hoses. I think it is ok to use what works best for YOUR current app. Everyone's innput is valued of course. But at the end of the day, you simply have to use what makes you the happiest.

Can anyone share with me the most common SIC code for resi washing and deck resto? The list seems endless and was not able to single those two out. Thx in advance.

Lifetime Wood Sealant
Adrian replied to jbruno's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I may have missed the name of the sealer in my reading. Is there truely a seal or stain that last' a lifetime? Wouldn't that justify us as woodies raising our rates and using the said product? I know the main topic of thread is HOA's requirements and their way of wood resto. It just seems to me a pretty gutsy statement on the MFG's part to claim their product last' a lifetime. I'll stick w/RS. I like seeing my customers every couple of yrs. -
need some help, advice and guidence
Adrian replied to squeegeeboy's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Not going to edit my above post, but, will say it was meant to be funny not offensive. I will also add that my door is always open to those that feel the need to discuss my post' for clarity. David it truely was a nice conversation we had. I think you should reconsider the Rount Tables, the info you get and the friends you make are invaluable. Not to mention it is always good to put a name to a face. Steve there is alot of help and info to be found on this forum whether you use the search function or get it direct from the other contractors. You've come to the right place to learn. I think you are headed in the right direction I remember when Dane first came onboard and had a million questions, and look at him now, sharing the knowledge he has picked up here and abroad like an old pro. Hats off TGS, as usual, a learning hub. A great place to learn and share. But I'm still LMAO at my post because I thought it was funny. ok... evy budy hoppy, it maka da worl go ruwnd :) -

An xjet would be a good start in decreasing your wash time and in just about every case, keep you on the ground. Well worth the investment, and would pay for itself in no time at all. Or a better DS setup would do the same for you. -
I have been holding my own for almost 6 yrs. now with nothing but satisfied customers ( sometimes picky, but satisfied). I have a customer who has gone missing on me( or dodging me) and owes me for services rendered. ( resi pw and fence resto) sidebar: he has been a real Richard head from the start. I have contacted( mail, email, voxmail) him since Nov. 08 to no avail. I am afraid taking legal action will cost more than the job is worth ($1500.00). Any ideas on how to collect? Other than putting a hit out on him (kidding of course). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How many vacant or going out stores in a strip mall?
Adrian replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
There are quit a few in the Houston area Beth. The economy doesn't help, but alot in our area are still down from the hurricane. Some may not come back at all. The further North the better shape they are in. Alot of Best Buy and Circuit City's are pulling the plug as well. I have read that online sales are really putting a dent in them. That's why resi's and wood are the focus for me this year. -
...I'm still actively pursueing the situation. Liens really will do nothing as he is not selling the resi. But, I do have legal action pending. Although it is on the back burner at this point as we approach the 90 day mark, I have not given up. I generally have faith in most people, but unless this guy has passed away or in financial straits, or on his death bed cancer ridden, well, he just sucks IMO. It's far from over though.

Am I wrong to think this is wrong? [/url]Are they "protected" under the constitution? I'm not trying to "stir the pot" but, this concerns me.
