Ryan556 got a reaction from ProCleanTampa.com in Gutter Cleaning -- What would you like to see?
As far as gutter whitening, I would like to see product comparisons. Gutter Grenade, Gutter zap, super clean..etc etc. Maybe in different temps too.
With clean outs, I would like to see how people are doing the job. I use the old fashioned bucket and rubber glove method. Then I run a hose down the downspouts. Works every time.
I've heard of people using vacuum systems on them. I would like to see the effectiveness of that.

Excuse me for being dense, but are you refering to cleaning gutters out, or cleaning the gutter's exterior?

The glycols take the stripping range into acrylics...if done correctly....

No problem..
No the glycol adds some boosting power to the stripper.

Ryan556 reacted to seymore in Making my own stripper.
Add some Butyl to boost it or some propylene glycol but when I add the booster I only mix 2-3 cups of caustic.
Post some pics lets see what you are up against?

It's the nature of the beast Ryan when stripping with a hot mix or multiple strips combined with the age of the wood it's bound to be fuzzy! I've seen newer wood not get as fuzzy as like a 5-10 yr old deck after stripping.
It's a small price to pay when starting over by removing a old stain with the stripping process. The bright side is the deck should never need to be stripped again once you are done stripping /sanding and staining!

DId you try to get glycol either eb this is the same thing as butyl.

Va is actually very fair about the issue. On contracting work when they pull a permit for a job they put your contractors licence number in the system and if it pops as inactive, completely fraudulent, or registered to someone else they make the contractor obtain a valid licence before they will sign off on the work.

Ryan, if it is your state of permanent residence you won't need an resident agent since your office is there. The purpose of the resident agent is to basically be a mailing address. My guess is you will either need the B or C class license.

Yes.
Any type of home improvement work that falls under their classification as such.
If you are only doing this from out of state, you will need to acquire a resident agent as well.
It looks from your bio that you are in New York. Why travel that far for a deck?

Im saving so much money now that we escaped the people's communist Republic of NY, that I don't mind paying for a license. Just another selling point for me anyway.
I'm sure it also helps weed out SOME hacks as well.

If it is splotchy at all, just re-coat it lightly, but not heavily.

Shane, I really have to thank you. I have added butyl based degreasers to my mix, but its always a premixed product. Thanks a million times for posting that. I have it bookmarked and will be ordering next week. I have to say that your advice, both in forums and on the phone, have made me money. I truly appreciate your help.

Matthew,
Don't take it personally.
This is actually good advice considering the poster has been through much as have the rest of us.
You are here asking for advice and the one side is you may get some you didn't expect.
In trying to be helpful, certain questions lead to other questions which make us respond accordingly.
Being in business means thinking about things you woulnd't normally. Trust me in this....there are people out there who are good at trying to exploit new contractors.
They know you are hungry and haven't developed your client base or reputation.
The forums are here to help. Some may help in other ways. That's all.

Here's the thing, kid...You are on sites created for professional contractors to discuss matters related to building and maintaining a profitable business, while providing a quality, professional service to customers. You are on here asking about which consumer quality machine to buy, to help you run a "summer job". Are you paying taxes? Do you have a DBA or a business license? Do you have insurance? Or are you just under charging and over working and taking business away from people who work hard to run legal businesses?
Long story short...don't get butthurt when you get snapped at by real business owner.
Sorry guys (and girls) I've been fixing hack jobs today. Including a composite deck that got ripped up by a neighborhood kid. I'm angry at hacks today.

We will be caught up tomorrow. Like Jim, wind was beating us up. We've had a nice few days though and have been banging them out. Sun up to sun down. I will take a day off on Sunday, but this season is off to an incredible start! I wish you all the best. May you all have a profitable and safe season!

Hey John-- we use Paychex and because of my PWRA discount we get I believe up to 10 employees for $39/month for all. Paychex figures everything out and then sends us the paystubs via email. All my wife has to do is sign the checks-- Done;)
