Winter is coming, and with winter comes more dark, less light. I need to install ceiling lights in my trailer. I have used flouresent tube lights in the past, but they hang down and get hit with stuff. I have LED lights in my Spinter, but would rather not pay $40.00 per light. The trailer is 12 x 7 wide, I think I need about 10 lights, so LEDs would be $400.00. I need to replace the battery for the lights. Is the really expensive Optima battery worth the extra money? I will connect the aux battery to the tow vehicle, not the PW battery. What has worked for others?

Equipment Inside Enclosed Trailer & Heat
Douglas Hicks replied to Klean Spray's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
the only problem I see is no extinguisher, no tools, not extra parts, no extra hoses, no chem storage, no work lights, no extra fuel. Put a roof vent in, accessable from the side door for make up air. -

Where is the leak? Threads, between the bulkhead and the fitting, at the hose/fitting? Are all the fittings metal or plastic? -

Since you do not have the equipment, just let the insurance company handle everything. Then watch what they do and how they do it. Even if this does not open a new income stream, you will be able to talk about restoration in general terms with potential customers. Don't forget to give your card to whoever the insurance company hires. We repaired broken sprinkler pipes the last 2 weeks. I rented a torpedo heater to warm the area on one job, so the pipe and glue would set up properly. That charge will be added to the price of the job. I have some specialty tools that are not used on a regular basis, like a sump pump and heating blankets. I charge 15% of the purchase price when those tools are used. Other tools, like my threaders, groovers, vacuums and cut off saw are billed at a set rate. Consumables, glue, pipe dope, drill bits, hole saws and cut-off wheels are billed at replacement cost when they are used up on a job. These are all legitiamate charges and the insurance company will pay them. Next time you get a bill from the automotive shop, look at the bottom of the bill, there will be a % charge to take care of penetrating oil, sealers, and rags. -
Static electricity is more common on cold, clear days. Possible factor? I think the cause is most likely the explosive language used because the code-compliant fuel cans leak fuel all over the equipment.

I knew of a guy in Boise who tapped off of his vehicle tank. He tee'd off the fuel line, installed an electric pump and pipe the fuel to the fuel tank of the PW. He had a pushbutton non-latching switch that operated the fuel pump.

E-spec is on my do not buy list. -
That topic would make a good article in a trade magazine. Do you know someone who could write that up?

I have done work at a reduced rate for the Salvation Army, a women's shelter, and a Food Bank. Neither group cares who you are or what you do. Their only concern is if you need help. But if I am told that I owe a freebie, if they tell me I can take a tax deduction, if they pull the guilt trip, we are done. The other thing, is I do not help for free advertising or other b/s. I help because I like the org or their goals.

Douglas Hicks replied to Ryan556's question in The Club House
Opening buck is tomorrow, we are going to pass. We will be out next weekend. This weekend, my knee is not ready for the rough ground, and the ribs are not healed enough for packing a deer. Doe starts the 11 of Oct. I don't have a tag, but Dee does, Cheryl and I do not. Probably motel camping for that hunt also. Nov 11- 16 is Elk hunting. That will be 9 weeks and I will be ready to set up the tent for camping. -

One thing hunters and fishers do is support all wildlife. Every gun, bullet, target, has a 10 or 11%% tax placed on it. the money generated is used for wildlife habitat, research and other purposes. Fishermen have a tax placed upon their gear and it is also used to benefit fishes and their habitat. Birders, hikers, off-road bicyclists, off-road motorized sports, flowerists (sp) all receive a benefit which they do not pay. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittman%E2%80%93Robertson_Federal_Aid_in_Wildlife_Restoration_Act When you read about evil hunters and fishermen, no mention is made ny the media about the above. Thank you evil outdoorsmen and women! -

My oldest was in diapers for his first camping trip. Destiny was also in diapers for her first elk hunt. Backpacking started at 6 or 7. Shooting started at about 9 or 10, fishing the same age. Kids take to the outdoors quickly, and they are washable. I taught Nick to pee on a tree at 7, and that to play in the fire, he had to bring wood into camp. At 6, Destiny learned the wood stove was hot, but she refused to cry. Now the kids are older and have jobs, or school functions. Kristopher, some states (Oregon) have classes to teach adults how to fish, shoot rifles and bows. We also have the chance to mentor kids on special hunts. http://www.dfw.state.or.us/education/hunter/ Various hunting and fishing groups have projects needed volunteers. http://www.rmef.org/Events/StateChapterEvents.aspx California RMEF events. Those big game dinners are fun, we have attended Ducks Unlimited dinners in the past. We do not know what deer season will be this year. My knee is really hurting, so Buck Season may not happen for us this year. Or we may do day hunts from a motel this year. But, My knees will be better by elk season. Nothing beats elk hunting, nothing. We have had elk wake up by walking through camp, talking to each other and lisening to the coyotes & Wolves howl. -

The fishing part is not important. The being together is the important part. Just as important, is his little friends who do not have a good father figure in their lives. You have a chance to make a real difference in some kids life. Don't screw it up. -
Excuse me, I need to climb on top of my desk and pull up my pant legs, it is getting deep in here.

What are your plans for Labor Day weekend?
Douglas Hicks replied to John T's question in The Club House
Murder, mayhem and death by fire. I will start about 5:00 AM so I can surprise my opponents while they sleep. Most will not awake, never being aware of the pending doom. -
I thought progressive discipline was using a bigger stick each time an employee upset the boss.

Do you cover your burner stacks when not in use?
Douglas Hicks replied to John T's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
At one time I was going to put a cover on my duct. I was thinking something like a tractor exhaust pipe cover. I was going to hinge the cover at the front, then if I did not close the thing, the wind would blow the cover closed. I never had the time to do that minor project. -

$400.00 for one day?? Did that include rides? Makes hunting camp look cheap. I expect our doe, buck, & elk camps this year will be less than 3 days at Disney. -
Who needs a vacation and where are you going this summer?
Douglas Hicks replied to John T's question in The Club House
You did not mention the fall vacation, but are going to participate in another Great American Tradition this year. It involves guns, family, walking in the fall woods, hearing elk bugle, and the coyotes how. We have tags again this year. Three of us put in and we got buck, doe, and elk tags. I will also put in for turkey tags before the season. Getting an animal is not the purpose, but being out in the woods, and being with family is.
