How To Clean Windowsills And Window Tracks

Many Delaware homeowners clean their window glass but what about the sills and tracks of your window? These two areas are often and unintentionally overlooked but they need TLC as well. The last thing anyone wants is for a guests to peer out your beautiful streak free window to see window tracks filled with dirt or dust.

Use the following how-to guides to keep your windowsills, frames, and tracks worthy of the shiny glass they support.

How to Clean Windowsills

Like your home's baseboards, windowsills attract their fair share of dust but with a few simple tools like a spray bottle, dawn dish soap, and a microfiber cloth cleaning your windowsills won’t be too difficult a task.

Step one: Wipe the windowsills with your dry microfiber rag to remove any dust. If you still have residue left, using your spray bottle mix a few drops of Dawn into the bottle with warm water then spray onto the cloth, not the windowsill. Next, gently wipe off the windowsill and frame, make sure to not oversaturate the wood as it can damage the paint or varnish. Finally, wipe your windowsills down with a dry cloth. Once your windowsills are clean, keep them maintained by weekly dusting.

How to Clean Window Tracks

Many people are shocked that even closed windows can collect dirt, dust, and dead insects on the inside of your window tracks. We recommend cleaning your window tracks twice a year when you do your fall and spring cleaning. To clean the tracks of your windows you will need a vacuum with crevice tools, a plastic putty knife, disposable wipes, and a microfiber rag. If the dirt ad dust on your window track is loose then use the vacuum to clean it out but for packed-on grime, you’ll need to use a little elbow grease.

To prepare the surface for cleaning use the vacuum cleaner attachments t clean out the loose soil, dust and dead bugs then wipe them away with a wipe starting at the center of the track. Soil builds up from the center of your window track so wipe it with a dry microfiber rag and repeat the steps until all the dirt is gone. Make sure your new sparkling window panes aren’t dulled by the dirty glass.
