  1. Discount for Cash

Here is my California rules and I read it to mean that it only applies if I directly pass on the price of paint or stain rather then I being the consumer of the product in my course of business: Every state or local goobermint could have different regulations though so do your due diligience (sp?) Oh and note that if we buy stains or paints from out of state and are not charged tax then we owe use tax. Same designation as buying things online like off ebay.. I hear they cracking down on such nowadays..
  2. Homish built picnic table

Yea them Amish sure are famous for their wood stuff... took more then 2 hour to clean up a shattered glass topped one so would luv that thing for that reason alone.
  3. Discount for Cash

Why you charging tax for a service? Is that a NJ thing or something?
  4. Happy 4TH

Bunch of family down from up North and so we put on a serious show. First before dark we did off a ton of 2 liter water bottle rockets 40' in the air until one landed on neighbors roof..People really luv them and is a good prelude til dark..Our grand finale after messing around for a half hour with the one by one fountains was setting off like $100 worth of fireworks at once. I set up my aluminum trailer ramp on a table and spread about half of all the fountains from one of the big boxes of fireworks. All the little stuff like smoke balls, ground flowers, etc. were set off as well all at once in the box they came in. You get enough heat going and it is one big steady wave of noise, smoke, and light. It was not sane.. :lgjump:
  5. Help,soap won't draw when upstreaming

Wizzard could probably tell us some real world figures on how much damage is or isn't caused by standard/mild cleaners being upstreamed. He works on them Hotsies which I believe are geared towards the concept for many a years... I just don't do it myself. Can't risk wearing things out or clogging things at a faster pace.
  6. Sally Slipped on a Slop of Slippery Stairway Stripper

During a coating strip the footware needs to be able to dig through the slick as a bannana peel layers that are not yet broken into a liquified emulsion. I often yell at any and all management or regular kitchen employee when they think they are gonna go walking across my strip job with them kitchen shoes. They know not what they are getting into as it is not zackly same a greased out kitchen envirnoment that they are used to. With grease situation the tread goes through to the hard surface beneith. on strip situation the tread goes through only as deep as the stripping dwell/process will allow that moment. One minute your skating wearing anything and everything but steel clampons and then a few minutes later you might be able to bite right through with many types of shoes. I've went down a few times over the years.. My worst was when I ran for a telephone call for a client. When I got to the corner turn to go around behind a counter my foot shot out and bamn it hit the wall with tremendous force. The force was so tremendous that my middle toe was dislocated inside my shoe pointed backwards. While the floor was dwelling I went next door to a chiropractor. The staff was somewhat horrified but they went ahead and xrayed it..Unfortunatley they were not able to work on it so they told me to go to emergency room. I being the commited man I am said nope can't do that and I went back to work and finished stripping and laying finish. About 3 or 4 hour later I finally got home and promptly froze it between ice cubes, sucked up the pain, and clicked it back in place. I cringe thinking about it still to this day. I did it again to another toes a couple year back in the bathroom in the middle of the night...:lgbonk:
  7. Nice Deck

    Classic..!! thank you.. :)
  8. Happy 4TH

    Ditto!! G O D B L E S S A M E R I C A ! !
  9. Water Supply Tank choice?

Square peg fits better in a round hole?..nope.. I see square tank more and more on pro built trailer setups. Cheap DIY way to do it is with the caged tanks. They can easily be pallet jacked right off a trailer..Do google search for IBC tanks and have a look at this recent thread: http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/tools-equipment-basic-maintenance/10871-water-tank.html
  10. Sally Slipped on a Slop of Slippery Stairway Stripper

Dang Chaz..sorry to hear that...You could really have been hurt bad on stairs!! For me slipping on dwelling wood stripper is a bit different than slipping on interior vinyl strip jobs. In comparison it seems the difference is that with the exterior wood jobs only parts are slippery which makes it worse..ya never know what yer gonna get..lol Janitorial supply houses sell slip ons that put scrub pads underneith your shoes. These break into the emulsifying layer and strip where you walk. In floors I always just lay the stripper backwards and never walk on it again until my scrubber goes over the area 10 to 15 minute later..problem solved, in wood we don't have that luxury as we need to keep it wet in a very evaporative natured environment with sun beating down or breezes speeding up the dry on us. I did experiment with a mix I call 'modified apple sauce' in the apple sauce roof cleaning thread that did a real number on lessoning slippage on the interior jobs but haven't gotten around to working it out yet for wood. My belief though is that the faster the surface being stripped gets emulsified through and through without need for mechanical break down the better. Hydroxides alone don't always achomplish that task on their own with the thick coatings. Maybe we as a group should try to figure this out and try to minimize slippage. Could be the tsp addition in the 'modified' mix that could help..unsure...
  11. gas or diesel???

Can be smart on gas stations and truck stops to go with a complete self contained unit that is used with short hose and pulled around. Many places are opened to traffic and using such a unit allows you to cone off only a stall or two to keep them open and your pressure hoses from getting run over. Since they wheel on out of your trailer they are somewhat more conducive to small trailers especially when you need trailer for other chores..A 6 or an 8gpm would be wise as Alan says..as large flat areas with lots of grime and debri require lots of flushing. Pressure washing such areas efficiently is more about the amount of flow/overall cleaning units and heat than pressure specs alone. Strip centers your gonna want a regular skid unit with at least a 250 gal supply tank.
  12. Is increasing Price after quote right?

Can we assume it is same aluminum roof job as here?: http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/up-roof-asphalt-tile-shake-cleaning/11127-help-aluminum-roof-steep.html Just think you need to kill it good and dead from the ground and go back a week or two later and 0 tip it... Your fears were chem on aluminum though...What strength can he go up to to spot kill it with a chemical pump? Maybe rinse underneith a few times while the spot areas are dieing and drying? But to answer this topic..No I don't raise price less some uncertainty was discussed or made room for.
  13. Wood Warranty Question...

Here's a consideration for you...we're in Summer, first spring after they do much of nothing in way of maintenance, second spring they step up and use hose often.. They sorta resign to the idea of scrapping the idea of paying you for maintenance cause it still looks pretty good, but after the big BBQ and spending their disposable income it needs help..so off they go to the store and pour on who knows what chem to clean it up a tad. Man of the house says "Ooops.. looks a little faded mother"..mother says "well we still got a year warranty left, dig out that guys phone number and get him over here".. just a thought.. you may want some cussion time in more ways than one..
  14. Wood Warranty Question...

Fine print of warranties I've looked at only apply for new wood so why would you offer a warranty longer than the manufacture would?..maybe some manu different..
  15. propylene glycol

The amount of synonyms would support that. Is there any specific retail products you see it listed on..or what synonyms is more common use?. The Wiki says "Polyoxyethylene is the chemical name for a straight chained alcohol." and I assume the term is used for many chemicals in that condition. Think we need to see exact synonym with the 'nonylphenol' part.
  16. Pine Sap Removal

Yea I'm cool and down with all that but I don't care for the whole gymnastic ribbon thingy.. Please flavour it more cosmic..you know like with an imaginary string theory concept. Or at least with a 'meet George Jetson' theme.. thank you now.. :lgbonk:
  17. propylene glycol

Ok so correct me if mistaken... We have 6 glycols talked about at this point with various pros and cons as possable boosters. ..Safe antifreeze, Supposed to be less toxic than standard Ethylene Glycol antifreeze. Flashpoint 210 degree F.. more info here: PROPYLENE GLYCOL - (Partially Validated Method #2051) ...Supposed to be less toxic and increases range of sealant coating removal. Flash point- 250 deg. F .....Thinking this could be the fairly toxic version banned in European Union due to environmental concerns, they are replaced by more expensive but safer alcohol ethoxylates.. ..used as antifreeze, used to make glycol ethers, used to make stains, is a combustable alcohol-non flamable(232 degree F)..is pretty toxic.. ..The butyl base of many retail and industrial cleaners and strippers "The main use of 2-butoxyethanol is as a solvent in paints and surface coatings, followed by cleaning products and inks.", unsure of how much extended range for surface coating removal compared to the phenoxy -cas#122-99-6 mentioned by Rod. More info is found here: 2-BUTOXYETHANOL (BUTYL CELLOSOLVE) 2-BUTOXYETHYL ACETATE (BUTYL CELLOSOLVE ACETATE) ..Don't think ya want to use this..flamable 110 degree F

  21. PW perception

Different strokes fer different folks I guess..her's seems to be staring off the stoop with nothing better to do then the probable flicking of her cig butts into the folgers can. Share it up Jeff!!. you can do it!!
  23. concrete driveways

Oxalic acid I suspect would work
  24. Pine Sap Removal

turpentine on the spots, then normal pressure wash with your regular degreasers.. maybe oxalic acid whiten it after if you are familiar with that..
  25. Black streaks?

Read this whole thread through and through and am dismayed that no one really came up with the answer as to where black streaks on guttes come from... Well I finally figured out what causes streaked gutters.... It's bird toe jamm... :)
