  1. As example of extra work going uncharged...Last gimmie I gave was helping an elderly put his frniture back on a pool deck. Fella had like 5 metal firepit chairs with cushions, a standard 6 chair table and umbrella setup with cushions, two chase lounge with umbrella, 5 bar chairs, a whicker rattan couch with two chairs cushions and foot table. There was more but I forget what.. garage was filled with stuff. Took as long just about to put the stuff back as it did to do job.

  2. Pine knots are full of extractives (resin/pitch, etc.) that may or may not be hardened from wood processing and when the oils of stains hit them they can disolve and make room for the dry white look. More ya add the worse it may get. A 1 cut shellac (1lb shellac to 1 gal alcohol) can be used to seal them but since this is usually done in fine furniture staining & finishing field or prior to prime and painting I am not sure how it would pan out in the semi-trans oiling of exterior decking. Might work good if using staining products known to be more topical and able to acheive a slight sheen on surface. I think WT is such, if over applied that is. Since pine is also known to stain blotchy and funky in general, sanding sealers are usually used prior to staining most anything made with it. But again, just like the knots, a 1 cut or maybe even just a 1/2 cut of shellac will suffice to keep things even and still allow wood to take some stain...

Ah pine..oh what fun. It's been a long while since but some of my first wood finishing experience was on pine wood furniture bought from the nude furniture stores back in the late 70's to early 80's.

  3. Would like to see pics, links, or hear thoughts on mounting hose reels in the back of truck beds. Would really like to have some sort of Rapid Reel pivoting type installation to where the reel can be hidden down under bed level and but also come up and out away from vehicle enough for use. This would also allow pulling line out towards rear of a rig that pulls trailer if designed right. Utilizing the stake pockets or using a ladder rack might be ideal. Surely someone has seen such before.. What ya think?

  4. How you can add such in is by firstly not commiting to price until job is seen. Then you simply up your rate by dividing what the extras would seem to equal in a dollar amount by the total footage. This gives you a cents or dollars figure to increase your standard by. So you make another inventory item or tiered pricing reflecting the increase in your quoting/bidding program. Before you know it you can just look at something and call it a dollar amount per foot or a total dollar amount. Time can be harder..least for me anyway.

  5. Hi Brian,

That not the Superdeck (superduck..Masons Select?) product sold at Ace- Truvalue is it?.. If it is, it junk that leaves too much topical film prone to chipping off. Not just from foot wear but everywhere to some degree. Removing it from unsuspecting decks is making me a wealthier man by the week. Good thing about it is that it easier than some others to remove.. :)

  6. Alan,Welcome to TGS! I can tell by your post that you will be an asset to the site...

What do ya think is going on with AC for it to be so tough? You know I could hardly get it out of my stir stick the other day with downsteam level stripper. It is like the pigment dives like no other and is truly blocked in good without topical fiming of the linseed. They say the goodies seperate once applied and I not one to say otherwise. Reason being is that from what I seen of most coating systems there is always some level of integrity loss when things such as pigments, chips, oils, etc. are within the drying matrix. A solid resin by itself always has seemed tougher to disolve than one incorporating the other items. Must be that principle at work, or magical linseed, or a synthetic additive going unmentioned.

So anyway, soe prior discussions of AC going 3 years or better is an awesome thing. Can you speak to that or show us some aged AC pics?

  7. Yea Mike.. none of the ones mentioned are ethylene but rather are of the propylene glycol variety. Safe, Prestone Low Tox, or RV all utilize that safer/less toxic glycol. Point I was getting at is whether the RV is as strong since it is prediluted (that's what the jug I seen says). If you say it doesn't dilute a DS mix too much then there we go, It has to be given a chance based on both price and possability of less byproduct chems/inhibitors that we really don't need for our use.

Actually I think the Safe is too thick with byproducts and certainly does not on its own have enough water content to take many powder chems to point of saturation. I always end up having to add water anyways...

  8. I am not sure what Don Phelps has to do with this. That may be part of my confusion.

    Hi Mel,

Consider me in that point too. Besides just commenting the same as the next fella on the main topic of spelling and grammar, I have no purpose or goal of attack against anyone. Sometimes defense of a principle outside of a main topic is not a bad thing when threats of exagerative actions are abrubtly introduced out of line with a conversation. Hence the free speach side topic. Apparently in this case such defense is automatically confused or twisted that I or Don must both be in cahoots and share opposing view and goal of attack against some entity. What that entity is in Scotts' mind I do not know. Could be exageration of a plot to gang up on Ron, you, or TGS in general..Who knows? Makes not a lick of sense to me how one gets there other than that they walked in and missed half the convo or assumed too much of peoples emotions. I would think it a case of the reading impaired if somebody like Scott can't tell I have not attacked you and am friendly with Ron in general. You know the misspellings on yer own part deserved pointing out. You respect that right Mel?

Comes down to that if talk of lock downs or twisting of opinions didn't take place you would have nothing to be confused on Mel.

  9. Hi Scott :)

First off, it is whom, not whoem. Thanx but whatever..as you said "All of these diatribes about spelling, and grammar are useless on this typ e of forum."

Second, this is not a government ..oh should I be confused?.. you did say "Consider it a benevolent dictatorship" right? Umm er last time I went to school a dictatorship was a government. So a duh..yes TGS has a governing body by your logic. , and I find it hard to believe that you are so intellectualy vacuous that you tried to make it a governing body, and then apply the bill of rights to TGS. Sorry, don't recall any use or speak of the bill of rights in this thread... but I do recall that you opened basis to talk about government or governing by your first use of it in this thread. As far as I know, there is no Bill of Rights associated with TGS. Consider it a benevolent dictatorship, since Beth and Rod can do whatever they please, including shutting it down for no reason.

The childish tirades, which you continued, was directly at you, not anyone else. I stand by that. Call my posts what you will and I will call yours what I will. Yes it true I called what ya said silly and perhaps you consider that an attack but hey I stand by it. Makes more sense to fight the good fight here against suppression the way I did than for you to be coming in here telling everyone from the get go that they wasted your time and their concerns about spelling are diatribe. Those are your words and some just may consider it rude. Then when I did the logical thing of questioning your intention of a lock down you apparently have the nerve to first not address me directly and but then twist anything of valid thought into being childish. Wouldn't be a stretch to say you own that title along with your vacuous comment full and clear from your second post on.

Finally, if I cleaned up your attack, I would think, as you have so finely demonstrated on this site, I have little doubt that you would call it censorship. Your welcome to point out an attack other than my use of "silly".

And now, finally, you have demonstrated the reason for locking a thread.

Hows that when it is open for you to be disputed? "I want people to have a chance to dispute me." Quite a stretch to suggest our sub debate/dispute is valid reason to lock a thread. Heck there isn't even any foul language yet. Maybe you would just wish it closed for yer own reasons aside from Mel and Ron''s thing.

  10. Nah didn't forget Scott..Why speak to it when know one really knows if your talking about mel, don, or some other poster? Surely you wouldn't be refuring to my posts since I was so clear on giving you a freedoms and rights dispute. I mean you did imply that you would need a dispute to keep things unlocked right? Maybe you really would have prefurred a dispute related to your first post as it relates to the original thread topic and but are tiffed that you got none?

  11. Anothe point to consider with solids, they do not allow the boards to breath and create an environment for rot, mold, etc. and will fail. I do not believe solids should ever go on deck boards. Is this a shared view?

For most part it would be shared view if considering only the horizontal decking boards. Such boards are never done on all sides and must be allowed to transfer/evaporate their moisture in and out in a timely way.

That said, I can not at all support applying such views for verticles such as railing systems and porch/pergola systems. Not only do verticles not wear comparably to the horizontals but they can be sealed on all sides and don't tend to rot from what I have seen anyway.

Far as the project displayed here goes... depends on what camp your from on whether it looks better with a semi or with a solid slash two tone setup. I would tend to think that most HO would wish it two tone railed based on conflicting contrast to the house. Most ranch type house like that are drab to begin with and could use some spicing up by it's own trim getting a makeover firstly to break things up and then its decking system having similar color and shading to match or also break things up. As it is now the contrast of a one color deck is the only thing in contrast making for two single things snatching attention individually. Anyone understand what I am saying here?.. needs to be either all same color and shade or each single thing needs broke up by accentuating trim on either house, deck, or both. That just me though.

  12. Scott,

    1. This is a private forum, as such the first amendment to the constitution does not apply. Go read it, the government cannot censor things. That said, the forum "" 'leaders' are to fill such shoes and provide actions related to leadership/judicial/discipline/inspiration, or what have you. In a real sense TGS has a governmental body...so what's yer point Scott?

    2. If you are trying to promote professionalism by launching into me with your childish tirades, you missed your mark. Personally I can't speak for whoem ever you consider launched into you in childish tirade. Not only would that be improper due to your not naming such offender but I fail to even see such event going down. Perhaps you speak of something your dealing with in private pm? But anywho.. someones trying to promote professionalism here in an entertainment/personal dispute/attack Ron thread?. How dare they!. That would be an idiotic attempt in total contrast to the jist of it.

    3. I hate disputes. They make me sick, but, I also hate to see anyone attacked without a VERY good reason. I promised myself when I was a kid that I would not allow it in my presence, and now that I am older it bothers me more than ever. That is something I can get behind and support. You and every other member should have such same ability to aire their belief or same belief if it not personal attack..that includes now, 24-48 from now, or 3 year from now IF there is something of record standing. In other words, if a thread is not to be kept clean, fixed, adjusted, deleted, etc, by the folks in charge from the get go (bnr, you, or any other leader) and left to stand as is then it is blatently unfair to members that they not be allowed to contribute to it. In respect to your apparent goal of promoting professionalism, such locked situation that you would have can mean something to onlookers. It can straight up mean that TGS itself as a whole stands by and supports whatever went down or whoemever appeared to have came out on top. Maybe that is not how TGS owners would like to be portrayed. Since it can not be proven that all members have had say due to fact that ya never can tell when a soul may speak up or when their heart may change and want to offer contrasting belief to their own priors, such lockdowns are improper.

Just clean up or delete what is considered attack early on would be my advise.

I supported your first post in this thread Scott and prefure that ability stays intact.

    4. You never stated the purpose or goal of your attacks.
