  1. I agree about the bank....I was gonna borrow a small amount earlier this year just to get established at my new bank, etc., but it was such a pain to mess with, it just wasn't worth it. Now, when I need something I don't want to pay cash for, I get a credit card. As opposed to signing your life away at the bank, putting up collateral, and messing with the rediculous amount of work, just spend five minutes on the phone with a guy from India and get a 15K credit card in a couple weeks, at 0-5%.

  2. Specs seem kinda big for a 13hp motor......

Oh, and when was the last time you bought something and said to yourself, "you know, I should have got something smaller." For me, not often. Usually it is, "man, why didn't I just buck up and spend a couple extra $$ and do it right the first time." Goes for trailers, vehicles, machines, power tools, etc.

  3. Pirate Jim,

IMO, the pic looks funny.......the only thing that looks like what I'd expect the "Gold" to look like is the 2nd pic, side of the Right Side Planter. The rest looks kinda purple. I know that is the sun skewing the photo, so is the side of the planter a good gauge? How many coats/how old is the side of the planter in that photo. What do you mean you don't remember how many coats you put on a planter back in '03?:)

  4. LOL, I have no idea what you are talking about Tony! But I'll go to HD and try and sound like a mechanic and bark at someone to go and get me some "anti-seize"....and some in LIGHT DUTY!! And some Thread Lock!!

Thanks for the help!! I'm ready to get this guy back running, I know you are like me, you like those HD specials!! Glad to see are doing well T, haven't seen you on the boards much lately,

  5. ....I've never changed out a pump before, and started messing with it today. My machine is a HomeDepot special, 4@3500 Direct Drive. This has been such a good back-up machine for me, but it now needs a pump (after 5-6yrs!). I got it from Russ, but I doubt he is in the shop on the weekend, and I need to change it asap.

...So the pump bolts to the engine with four bolts. Took them off. Pump now swivels on the drive, but won't slide off. It almost seems like you should keyhole something to make it pop off. If it matters, the pump is AR. This must be easy, as the pump didn't come with directions, LOL:) Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I'd like to get it fixed this weekend if at all possible. TIA

  6. ahh, so you are basically still just getting started. I thought you had a full crew going and needed to expand to keep up, and that is why I was curious why you didn't have some capital.

Make this a personal decision. Are you a risk-taker by nature?? Does the thought of being in debt to someone hinder your free spirit?? I don't think borrowing is for everyone, you have to be of a certain personality type to make it work, and when I say "work", I mean be able to enjoy life and live it full, not in fear. Or course, when I say "borrow", I mean for things other than a home, which most of us have to borrow for.

  7. My personal opinion, I don't think you should be thinking of expanding if you don't have the capital to do so. If you were wanting to finance because the interest rate was far lower than what you could earn with it invested, that would be one thing......but, since you are thinking of hitting up the fam I am assuming you don't have the liquid.

Bust it hard this year and try and put away 20K and expand next year. That would also allow you to take your time and look around and buy used, at the end of the year when everyone is going out of biz.

  8. Aaron--

....Are you "Alpine"?? When I lived in TN, I saw your guys out a lot. The did the windows near my apt., strip mall in Cool Springs across from Carrabba's. FWIW, I think you are in the best untapped deck market in the country.

Regarding the question, is sanding an option?? If not, how about just "water blasting" the wood, and buffing afterwards?? It's not just the chem getting into the water, you've also gotta think about whatever it is taking off is going to go there too. I'd just use water. And since it is Redwood, I'd brighten with Citric Acid (Harcros Chem. on Murf. Rd.). Show customer MSDS, citric is a food-grade product.

Could you apply stain by hand?? That would make your preferred-stain situation a moot argument. The "Redwood Only" ReadySeal in Light Brown looks beautiful on Redwood. If you ever want any referrals or some of my past customer names, shoot me an email.

  9. Hey Proclean,

I am curious, what have you had the most success with on Hardwoods, as far as stain goes??

Siberian Larch, eh?? What it different about it, than say, typical Canadian/Western Douglas Fir?? Super structural strength, probably more than any other wood. But are you comparing this "Siberian" to all the new Hardwoods?? Inquiring minds.......Ever see any Alaskan Cedar?? Very cool. Also, cannot think of the name, but a certain kind of cedar out of Oregon.....I'll look it up. I'll still vote for a "clear" softwood over the new hardwoods!
