  1. Kevin, the last house I worked on had flat, solid decks done with an ab urethane product and the super loved it... he said NO leaks. all told it was about an inch thick, over OSB plywood, and the surface layer was textured, like on a wall in the house. Looked good, and felt good. There's a number of different suppliers out there. r
  2. never would have believed it...

    That is awesome! Wow r
  3. Building a hot box

I've got two stainless coil sets out in back. One has a propane burner. The beckett burner from grainger is $385 but it's 110acv so needs a generator to run. Still, a lot less than $2k for a burner. Nah, I'll buy a manufactured unit when I get the bucks. r
  4. Wow Jon! How do you keep your chems out of he water? ... Isn't that something? Dock looks much nicer, people gonna walk out on it more now, stub toe & fall in water... lawyer buys new boat next year. r
  5. They TRIED To Warn Us !

We just watched a dvd put out in 06 called The US vs John Lennon. It was good. r
  6. I'm with plainpainter... I think hotwater will clear off the flat surface after a reasonable soak... Ha! I can't wait for an opportunity to try his fabric softener chemistry. Steam?...nah. vert pickets in balustrade still gonna be hardest. r
  7. Hhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeellllp!!!!!!!!!

Medic, you are a fine person! I'm sure things will work out well, and certainly hate nice people getting all stressed out. Construction type stuff, and cleaning, is all pretty straight forward... if it doesn't look right, that's the best indication they are NOT ! When you pay good money, as you did, you should get a quality job. From the pics, the project was well on the way, but the fellow didn't finish the stripping before starting to apply finish products. Fortunately the log is a structure that will respond well to all this. r
  8. It is interesting, isn't it... Wonder if it's cost effective, to use that equipment for the task. The pot seems small, now that I think of it. many reloads ? I bet it would be great on the vertical surfaces. r
  9. Hhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeellllp!!!!!!!!!

Plainpainter Dan, I earn a living fixing s*it workmanship. If work is bad, I will say so, and offer a solution. The person working on that log either did not know what he was doing, or was trying to put one over on the owner, take the money and run. Good thing he had enough sense to check in here. My obligation is to the person who engages my services. If the bloke who was having a difficult time getting that log to look proper would have contacted me, I would have helped, for a price, or subbed the job from him. There is no brotherhood among contractors unless you're sworn to some trade organization. Furthermore, obligation amongst workers is called a trade union. Anyone can walk on my jobs anywhere, anytime, and I will take responsibility for the quality of workmanship. Occasionally, when confronted over a project, it was necessary for me to ask a concerned third party, "Now, are you going to ask what the budget was for that project?" Let me remind you this BB and others are full of horror stories related by one of our own 'good guys' who followed some hack and repaired a job poorly done for an end client, at a price. I enjoy what I do, learn as much as I can to accomplish more, and help others in need. But make no mistake, I do it for the money. r
  10. Hhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeellllp!!!!!!!!!

...just like our old D-log cabin... I can remember the wind whistling through the walls in a storm ! Sure hope you get it all resolved. r
  11. Looks like someone.....

Very nice truck... Will you get advertising done on it? r
  12. Synthetic oil?

Wow! only 1 oil change per year, in a small engine? That MUST be good oil. r
  13. All about Frubals (what in the world is a Frubal)

  14. We offer residential and lite commercial repair and renovation services. r
  15. look at this

No Kevin, the water quality enforcement guy did NOT actually show me the lawbook, but the appropriate sections of the violation were in the filing. I went to talk to him, face to face, before things got any crazier, to let him know we really meant to be good guys. He was a straight up guy... heck, we ALL want clean air and water! Yes, I understand about dredging. My claims were on a really dirty stream, so it made no difference. but I still had to get the permit. And the permit is your evidence of exemption. Otherwise, you could just DO IT. If u gotta ask permission, it ain't free! r
  16. Paid $2.41 for Gas Today

$3.09 here in CA but that's only because we got oilfields all around us! r
  17. 4yrs old... have you ever adjusted the belts? ...if part time, how long has it been since used? easy enough to pinch that return line to see if pressure picks up, when it drops off... Inlet screen would most likely escalate quickly... My bet is with Allan and loose belts. r
  18. WOW #2 ...another craigslist ad

Just think of what you might get for $100 ! r
  19. A computer tech, huh ? Do YOU think you gave us enough info to suggest a fix ? r
  20. Global Warming - YOUR Vote Please ?

Sure, from what I've read, we are in a warming trend. That's generally followed by a cooling trend. Oh well. 88it happens! r
  21. Red clay mud on new concrete

We painted on a small 60 unit tract where they did that. It was winter. Workers had as many boards and scrap laid out through the mud as they could get, but rough construction was done. It was a quagmire. The homes were full of mud and 2 - 3ft up the walls. a real nightmare. ...and I've seen em where they just jackhammer the slabs out and re-pour em ! It's a crazy business when nobody cares... How's your heatspell in Phoenix? I recall working in 110 -117 just a few years ago, and the 105 - 106 we've had for a few days has got everyone melting. Plenty of fire smoke now... It's actually worse than LA, and the actual fire is over 100 miles s of us... Topic? Have you tried phosphoric acid solution on those red stains? r
  22. Snorkel filter

Roger that... I do my best to cover all the angles, but Murphy is always somewhere around the corner ! r
  23. Snorkel filter

I'm kinda surprised you didn't get a Deutz, or a Hatz diesel to power that pump. Then you could have run everything from the same tank... r
  24. look at this

I'll bet this post generates quite a bit. Spoke w a long established PW contractor this morn who WILL NOT work in the next town, our county seat, just for the liability of all the enforcement agencies there. ... BTW, IF you were an attorney, here, you would know NOT to ask abt the number of fish. Every one is sacred... The law was quoted to me, by a local enforcement person... " It is unlawful to increase the turbidity of a stream." He explained for me... It would be a violation to allow even milk, to pass over the curb and get into the gutter, where it would eventually get into a stream. Enforcement here in CA is famous/infamous... an $80k Steiger tractor was once impounded as evidence, when a farmer dug up a rat nest. It also stopped the farming on a couple hundred acres. But that's been abt 15yrs ago... it's worse now! r
  25. Hello PW Group, I found a new application for the pump, in the news, today. We CAN do this with our equipment. Today, 8.27.07, New York Times article under US events, "The Wealthy Get an Extra Shield For Wildfires," by William Yardley, is the source info. Synapsis: In Ketchum, Idaho, a contractor named Firebreak Spray Systems is paid by AIG insurance group to spray roofs with a clear Phos-Chek product that is a fire retardant in areas where wildfire is imminent. The contractor turned down requests from inquiring homeowners saying he was too busy. ...This, is a "head's up."... I've done none of the additional research that shall be needed, but it seems to be a great opportunity, to me. r
