What size pressure washer do you use?
WashRite replied to Apex Roof Cleaning in PA's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Rod, I would think in residential work a small float tank (100 gallons for 2 machines) could easily keep up with 5.6GPM machines. The time saved is worth it. I ran 4GPM machines for several years and now run 5.1 and can really see a difference. It really depends on your target market you plan to service. However, there a couple things to look for in any market. Go with a minimum 5GPM machine @ 3500PSI. A belt drive machine will give you better performance in the long run. If you plan to attack commercial cleaning you will want to have heat. I have two 5.1GPM @ 3500PSI machines on my trailer which are plumbed to run independently and combined. Running two machines has real advantages. Also, running both machines combined allows me to run 10.2GPM @ 3500PSI. I am very satisfied with my GPM and PSI. Does anyone apply chemicals with a 10 GPM+ pressure washer? I have two 5.1 GPM machines that I have tied together to 10.2 GPM but I cant apply chemicals. I have the chemical injectors located just prior to joining the machines. When I run the machines separately the chemical injectors work great but when I run them together they don't pull chemical. I even tried putting a 2.3 injector at the hose reel about 10' away but still couldn't pull chemical. Is there a larger orifice injector? Other solutions?

Chemical Injector for a 10 GPM machine?
WashRite replied to WashRite's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I used the 4 nozzle and it has already saved a lot of time. I washed a house today @ 10 GPM and was surprised at the difference in rinse speed. Again, thanks for the input from everyone. Chemical Injector for a 10 GPM machine?
WashRite replied to WashRite's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Final update: Based on another recommendation, I installed the Super Suds Sucker and it pulled perfectly with 200' of 3/8" hose. I appreciate the input. A less expensive fix than changing to 1/2" hose. Chemical Injector for a 10 GPM machine?
WashRite replied to WashRite's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I currently use a 0050 and a 0040 tip to pull chemicals. Would I need to go to a larger tip with 1/2" @ 10gpm Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Chemical Injector for a 10 GPM machine?
WashRite replied to WashRite's question in Residential Pressure Washing
My original setup was as you said with injectors after each machine but prior to joining together. I even went down to 1.8 injectors and still nothing. What if I used 1/2" hose from the pump to the hose reel or even 50' of 1/2" hose after the reel then go down to 3/8" hose? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Chemical Injector for a 10 GPM machine?
WashRite replied to WashRite's question in Residential Pressure Washing
A quick update - I installed the injector but it would not pull with 200' of 3/8 Hose but pulled very well at 100'. I really want (need) to run 200' so I may look at 1/2" hose. One thing I think would help would be to get a higher GPM trigger gun. I currently use a 10.5 gun but will get a 12 or higher gun to see if that helps. Also, will try to use 150' of hose opposed to 200'. I may could get by with 150' Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I found an injector that should work. A 2.75mm orifice rated for 6.6-10.8GPM. -
Two gun System vs. One gun System
WashRite replied to adco's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I went with two machines as opposed to one machine with two guns mainly because of what the others have said. If one goes down you can still finish the job with the other machine. The good news is I haven't had to yet. Also, it is very easy to tie both machines together to get double the volume. -

In my local area I'm already 1 or 2 in the search engines depending on what words are used to search. I have seen an increase in traffic however but it may not be due to Facebook. I anticipate an increase this time of year. -
Help understanding the "Ball-Valve and down-streamer" method.
WashRite replied to trugracie's question in Residential Pressure Washing
My understanding is any psi over 2000 cannot be used in an open gun format whether using an open gun, using velcro or tape to keep trigger open, or a ball valve partially opened. I very well could be wrong and don't recall where I picked up this information but I can tell you at 2000psi the gun will not flop around. I can also tell you that using an open gun at 3500psi can definitely hurt you. I'm trying to locate a picture from last year where I was using an open gun @ 3500psi and a wasp landed on my hand. It stung me and I let go of the gun and it turned on me. Yea, I finally won but you couldn't tell it by looking at me. If I can find it I will post it. This is when I ran across the safety requirement for operating an open gun. That is when I went with the tennis ball approach. The ball will pop out if it hits the ground shutting the gun off. I actually use the tennis balls on everything including surface cleaning. It helps with fatigue in my hands from holding the trigger open all day. -

Those tips will definitely reach high places. Hopefully, the 0010 and 0015 won't pull chemical and you can use them to rinse high places without removing the chemical line from the cleaning solution. Just remember these tips are 0 degrees so be careful the closer you get to the house. Equipment suppliers also sale a 3 and/or 4 nozzle holder so you can screw various tip sizes into one nozzle either in a straight line or a triangle pattern. This allows you to change tips without having to keep up with different single size tips in your pocket. You could have one set-up for most single story homes and another for 2-3 story homes. I would still consider a Hi-Lo Variable Fan Nozzle. It's worth the $20 to see if you like it. Some people don't like them because you can blow the o-ring out when puling the trigger. I solve this by using my ball valve to slowly turn the gun on when I'm ready to wash. Probably similar to a flow type unloader but I have never used one so I'm not sure. Maybe someone on here uses this type unloader and this nozzle and they could let us know if they have that problem. This nozzle is easier to work with because you rarely have to change it during a house wash. It's like a "one size fits all" tool. I do use both applications as well as an X-jet. They all have their place in specific situations. Sounds like you are on the right track - good luck! -

WashRite replied to trugracie's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I usually just use a trigger gun without a wand for most house washes. See photos below. The Hi-Lo Variable Fan nozzle will reach 30-35 feet with no problem. Simply put, the Hi-Lo Variable Fan Nozzle adjusts by pulling the nozzle outwards to produce low pressure and chemical and push it back in to produce high pressure and no chemical. You can also adjust the fan width from 0-65 degrees. Very versatile tool. Most pressure washing equipment companies carry them. Just do a search for a Hi-Lo Variable Fan Nozzle. You can also get the 0030 and 0040 tips from equipment suppliers. Machine, injector, high pressure hose, trigger gun, hi-lo variable fan nozzle or tip. -

Just so you know you have everything you need except for the 0030, 0040, and 0050 tips and the ball valve, if you don"t have one. Another approach would be to purchase a Hi-Lo Fan Nozzle sized to your machine, the tips above and the ball valve. This set-up would allow you to do just about any residential cleaning you would encounter. Total cost would be less than $60. Also, add a tennis ball to you gun to hold the trigger open. One thing for sure is this method is NOT safe. The higher you spray the more psi is needed. If you go above 2000psi you could have a safety problem and possibly an OSHA problem. If something were to happen and you dropped the ball valve it could flop around and injure you or damage property. Just something to think about. One OSHA fine would cost 100 times what a simple $60 set-up would cost. It is much louder than a trigger gun as well. Just my two cents. -

Caught me off guard with that welcome. It won't be long until I figure out how to do that - I really like it. Of course, if you don't won't me to use that I won't but it really gets your attention. Very smart and personable. I like the way everything ties together with your website and Fan page, too. I will plan to call you next to talk about specific chemicals I want to try. -
Curbside trash can cleaning
WashRite replied to squirtgun's question in Residential Pressure Washing
One thought would be to bill them annually, bi-annually, or quarterly. One thing is for sure, I would pre-bill them before I started. If you have a good reputation in this business and you can sell there should be no problem doing it this way. If you were to bill customers bi-annually and you pre-sold HOA's, you could probably start the business with little or no cash out of your pocket. Even a 90 day note would be worth the expense if you pre-sold enough homes. I actually looked into this service a year or so ago as well. I personally think it would do well. My prices were more like $1.50/week for the first can and $0.75 for each additional can. Most homes here have two trash cans. In fact, I plan to do it at some point. I've talked with several people and everyone said they would do it if the service was offered. I know I would. Of course, I would pick and choose my clientele. There certain neighborhoods to stay away from. -
Chemical not pulling when using my Hi-Lo fan nozzle. Bear in mind, I've used these nozzles for several years now and it worked great halfway through a job and then it just stopped. On high pressure I'm running 3500-3550psi and when I'm using low pressure I'm running below 2000psi. This should be plenty of drop in pressure to pull chemical. I replaced the ball (ceramic), spring and o-ring and no change. I also checked the orifice and it looked great but I changed it as well and still nothing. It will pull chemical using a 40 tip and/or with no gun at all. Any idea or thought of why the injector is not working using the Hi-Lo nozzle?

Injector Problems - any Ideas?
WashRite replied to WashRite's question in Residential Pressure Washing
The actual pressure drop was to appx. 1800psi and I have been using these same Hi-Lo fan nozzles for several years now and have never had a problem. I can't remember the orifice size but it is a #2 of the four that come with the super suds sucker. My machines are 5.1gpm Hotsy's and the H-Lo fan nozzle is a 5.5. Again, this is the set-up I've been using for quite a while. My trailer has two machines so when this quit working I just changed machines to finish the job. When I got back to the shop I wanted to figure what was happening but I could not so I thought I would throw it on here and see if anyone else has had similar issues and a resolution. One thing I did realize, however, is another advantage of having both machines tied together with the ability of running them independently using ball valves is I didn't have to change hose reels and roll one out and roll one up. When house washing I generally just run one machine when working alone. When this injector issued popped up I didn't want to roll up the hose and roll out the other so I adjusted ball valves to run out of the other hose reel. For some reason I didn't realize I could do that. I guess I never had to. -
Injector Problems - any Ideas?
WashRite replied to WashRite's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Did that first I also tried two new Hi-Lo nozzles - still didn't work. Normally, I run 4 chemical lines through 1 injector through a manifold but when this happened I hooked the house wash line only directly to the injector to eliminate other variables. Still no help.
