Problem! Window cleaning...
Kirk replied to bigchaz's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I DON'T RECOMMEND using a razor on a customers glass unless you understand defective tempered glass issues and have had the customer sign a waver!. You could scratch it and end up paying for replacement of several panes at huge expense and it was not even your fault! I know some of you may have used razors before with no problem, but unless you know what your looking for you could run across a bad batch of windows that can ruin your day (week). A Scotch Bright pad (or 0000 steel wool) on wet windows works great. For high windows or hard to reach windows affix the pad to a pole with a clamp or a drywall sanding fixture with a swivel on it. -
Clear seal by RS
Kirk replied to Adrian's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Since I mostly use Ready Seal, could you guys go into a little more detail about how you incorporate the "clear" into your maintenance service. Like when you do and do not use it, what are the ratios you use, ok on both cedar and ptp? I take it you don't use it if there are ANY signs of wear? Are these on decks where you have told the cust you do maint automatically every 2 years? Thanks, Kirk -
Right-on Ant. We're all brothers (and sisters) on this ride and want what we think is best for everyone and our country. Your statement caught me a little off guard, but thinking about it, it shouldn't have. New respect. But mostly I'm just jealous you have all those cats running around to shoot by the bushel. We had pheasants like that years ago, now it's hardly worth buying the license. Skeet shooting costs to much to be serious about. I just don't think McCain was himself through this whole ordeal, like the man I thought he was most of his career and during his run in 2000. I think many more would have approved of that man, I know I would have had to think twice about him. I was surprised to see a stat about the effect his age actually did have. Peace Kirk

Wow that's some crazy Azz Sh!t been said. I guess I won't marry my goat now.

Caribou Barbi took 3rd the year she competed in Miss Alaska. Why didn't McCain choose the woman that actually won?

Some of you guys say you don't know what Obama will do as pres. Some are afraid he has ulterior motives. Christ he has been campaigning for 2 years, have you looked at his outline on his website. How much REASONABLE PROOF is there otherwise! Mostly a bunch of crap to distract from what he seems to want to try and accomplish. I don't care if Gilbert Godfrey is elected, but Obama seems to understand THE MIDDLE CLASS NEEDS DECENT PAYING JOBS!!! We need to bring manufacturing jobs back here. Manufacture HERE-Manufacture NOW! In the future it's going to be hard to collect for HOUSE WASHING / WINDOW CLEANING / DECK REFINISHING from someone WORKING AT WALLMART. F... free trade agreements F... companies getting corporate welfare for sending jobs to other countries only to expand CEOs wallet F... top down / trickle down economics it aint trickling down-wake up it's NOT GOING to TRICKLE DOWN Productivity = Supply Wages= Demand Productivity from the American worker has increased for several years now. At the same time wages have remained stagnant of decreased. Put us on a level playing ground with other countries that charge US tariffs. Stop worrying so much about socialism!! The rich (and wanna be) media talking heads are trying to scare you with being controlled by a central leader figure (old school socialism/communism) to keep themselves from paying their own taxes. No, it should be about what is best for YOU..YOU..YOU (and your family) and the middle class of our country. Yes I know I, I'm not an expert, and no I don't care to spend a bunch of time to try and prove my statements. I do know this country has gone to sh!t in the past 30 years since the Regan admin and his principals (including frigin gullible Clinton for listening to Greenspan and Robert Rubin).

"I agree Rog...libs couldn't care less about what McCain has done for this country. Or any vet for that matter." Where do you come up with this stuff? I've got a pretty good idea what vets have done for this country. And I was recently reminded about it when I went to the funeral of the guy who stuffed my fathers intestines back in his abdomen and carried him for 8 hours through enemy fire to save his life in Korea. "Plus, it's not mudslinging, it's factual information, the man has many ties to REALLY bad people. Ayers is a terrorist dude, A TERRORIST!!!" Also voted Chicago's 1997 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR and highly respected community leader. He's grown up since then, you think he's going to fire bomb you after he becomes president? What are you afraid of? "I love to listen to Palin, she's conservative." How can you tell what she is, other than a trained seal reciting what she has been told to say by her "HANDLERS". Do you really want to go there about Palin and her preacher? Need I bring up Nobama's G-D'm, America hating preacher? You want to compare Obamas preacher with a WITCH DOCTOR who was expelled from Kenya for harassing women he thought were witches? Do you believe in witches? How about Caribou Barbi's first dude's separatist group membership until 2002. Their founder Joe Vogler - "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government," Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP. Vogler was found murdered after a plastic explosives sale gone bad. It's looking like most of America does not see Obama as "the radical left wing". It looks like most Americans want their country back. Peace.

Refinishing solid wood exterior doors
Kirk replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Wouldn't you need to sandblast it to get into the nookies and cranny's? Kirk -
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF JOE REPUBLICAN Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised. All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry. In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor. Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune. It is noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression. Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime. Joe also forgets that his in addition to his federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded university. Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the tax-payer funded roads. He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification. He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to. Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."

Ours is the only industrialized nation without coverage for all its citizens. We spend twice as much per capita than any other nation for health care – 17% of our GNP. That’s 90% more than Germany, France or Canada. It’s not because we are paying a premium for quality, because the World Health Organization ranks our health care 37th between Slovenia and Costa Rico. The overemphasis on corporate PROFIT has run health care into the ground! Assuming these facts are correct CAN YOU GUYS ADMIT SOMETHING STINKS HERE???? 30 FRICKIN PERCENT of the cost of insurance goes to Washington lobbyists, salaries for CEO’s (William Maguire CEO United Healthcare $124,000,000 2005 compensation) , corporate jets, advertising campaigns and gold faucets in the ****ter. This is a MORAL failure putting profit before healing. Even people with coverage are now getting letters from their insurance carrier asking for confirmation of a procedure with a dated response time and if you don’t confirm in the allotted time your procedure may not be paid for. How many old people may not understand this and disregard the letter, or how many will think it junk mail and not even open such a letter. And currently this little loophole is perfectly legal. Don’t you guys think someone should step in here? How about the dreaded government! Pharmaceutical and insurance companies have spent 455,000,000 dollars in lobbying in 07. You think they do that so that can continue to give you the best care they can? No – they want something in return—MORE PROFIT. Of every 100$ that flows through corporate insurance and HMO’s $10 to $34 dollars sticks to their fingers. For every $100 dollars that passes through government administered Medicare programs $2 to $3 is spent on administration! Key word – ADMINISTRATION, not your socialist government runs everything program the insurance company’s have brainwashed you guys into regurgitating like some robot. So what it comes down to is greed. You guys who speak of how religious and moral you are, are afraid you may have to spend a couple dollars to help your fellow man. (As worried as some or you are about paying taxes you must all be in the $250K income range anyway) Would you have a problem with that if it were TO HELP your grandmother or your father, how about an old friend? Tell ya what; I wouldn’t hesitate to help your mother (even if she did raise a dope). Don’t you think we can ALL get a better deal by cooperating with each other, FINANCIALLY and MORALLY? Kirk

What I've heard about her today is: She has a 17 year old single daughter who is pregnant She is in the middle of a scandal about her railroading her ex-brother in law who was a cop out of his job. Prior to her 18 months as Gov of Alaska she was the mayor of a town of 8000 people She supports workers, rights-as in unions Huh? This sounds like a confusing mix. A disparate move. Is McCain going to state he now stands behind workers? Does McCain's political machine think women are stupid and so desperate for a woman they will vote for this ticket despite her anti woman's views about woman's rights - equal pay, pro life? Jeez, Bidens going to eat her alive in the debate. At least she probably knows Iran would not train Al-Qaida. Kirk

I got one of those from the foot peg doing doughnuts on my minibike 35+ years ago. Ran into my aunts house and tried to make the blood stop in her bathtub without anyone finding out, what a mess I made. To this day if I touch it right I get a pain in that bone.

Please allow me this cut and paste that pretty well sums up the view of many of us cool-aid drinking, radical, insane, socialist folk who make up the view of probably most of America. The radical middle. Yes I am lazy (outside of work), and my composition sucks and I don't care to write my own post to try and show my intelligence or to use a bunch of time trying to. What is the Radical Middle? The Founders of this nation represented the first Radical Middle. Back then they called it "being liberal." As George Washington said, "As Mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and liberality." They didn't want King George or his military or corporate agents snooping in their houses, mails, or private matters; preventing them from organizing together and speaking out in public in protest of government actions; imprisoning them without access to attorneys, due process, or trials by juries of their peers; or reserving rights to himself that they felt should rest with the people or their elected representatives. (They ultimately wrote all of these in the Bill of Rights in our Constitution.) They also didn't want giant transnational corporations dominating their lives or their local economies. When, in 1773, King George III signed the Tea Act - a massive tax cut for the British East India Company - they protested this first attempt to WalMart-itize America by preventing the Company's ships from landing in several cities up and down the eastern seaboard, and boarding and destroying over a million dollars (in today's money) of tea in the ships that did dock in Boston. This was the beginning, by the Radical Middle, of the American Revolution. The Radical Middle has always believed in fairness and democracy, and understood that completely unrestrained business activity and massive accumulations of wealth into a very few hands can endanger democratic institutions. As James Madison said, "There is an evil which ought to be guarded against in the indefinite accumulation of property from the capacity of holding it in perpetuity by … corporations. The power of all corporations ought to be limited in this respect. The growing wealth acquired by them never fails to be a source of abuses." Similarly, John Adams wrote that when "economic power become concentrated in a few hands, then political power flowed to those possessors and away from the citizens, ultimately resulting in an oligarchy or tyranny." Thomas Paine, among others, wrote at length about the dangers to a free people of the massive accumulation of wealth, and following the excesses of the Gilded Age - which led to massive corruption of the American government by corporate and wealth-based interests - laws were put into place limiting the size and behavior of corporations (such as the Sherman Anti-Trust Act), and taxing inheritance of the most massive of family estates so that a new hereditary aristocracy wouldn't emerge in the nation that had thrown off the economic and political oppressions of the hereditary aristocracy of England. The Radical Middle always believed in the idea of a commons - the things that we all own collectively, and administer the way we want through our elected representatives. Our parks, roads, police, fire, schools, and our government itself. Our ability to vote in fair and transparent elections. Our military and defense. Our systems for protecting our air, water, food, and pharmaceuticals. Our ability to retire in safety if we've worked hard and played the game by the rules, and to know that an illness won't financially wipe us out. Regardless of electoral politics (since both of the major political parties often overlook these values, and both have become corrupted by wealth and corporate influence), poll after poll shows that the vast majority of Americans embrace the values of the Radical Middle. In recent years, America has been hijacked by the Radical Right. Corporations now write most of our legislation. Our elected representatives cater to the interests of wealth rather than what is best for the commons we collectively own, or what will sustain that bulwark of democracy known as the middle class. They have, in large part, seized control of our media, wiped out our family farms, and wiped out small, middle-class-owned businesses from our towns and cities. They seek a "merger of corporate and state interests" - a definition Mussolini used for what he called "fascism." The Radical Right has even gone so far as to use sophisticated psychological programming tools, like Newt Gingrich's infamous "word list," to paint the Radical Middle as some sort of insidious anti-Americanism. We in the Radical Middle are calling for nothing less than a restoration of democracy, of government of, by, and for We The People, in a world that works for all.

So who's going to watch Obamas acceptance speech tonight? (Ya - I know "I won't waste my time because (fill in the blank) _____. ) I'm sure I will watch a good portion of the repub convention. I think if you are one of those with such strong negative feelings about Obama you really should watch it to find out about his views FIRST HAND. And then be able to form YOUR OWN opinions about what areas you are really in disagreement about. Kirk

Abused and neglected WRC deck
Kirk replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Glad this came up. I have what is a pretty bad acrylic strip coming up on a pretty large deck. When I tested it W F-18 (pretty strong 8-10 oz/gal ratio) it moved but left small spots of stain underneath. This was after 15 min dwell using a scrub brush. I think I COULD do this with just the f-18 but I want to try the "Booster" to make life easer. I've kinda been dreading doing this strip. How destructive is this going to be on cedar? How many sq. ft in one bottle of ACR 633ADD? Thanks Kirk -

What sprayer to use?
Kirk replied to MudDuck's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Thats the same as what I was talking about only I got a reconditioned one. If you think you need a brand new one you should still compare prices at the Gleem Paint site. I've used them twice, great service. Kirk -
Is this a joke ? Who is washing houses for $39 ????
Kirk replied to MichiganPowerWashing.com's question in Residential Pressure Washing
In my area of Michigan I'm doin um for that price and offering a free pound of "Mackinac" fudge. Seriously, just today I was astonished by some low prices offered by a larger, established deck company. I got the job because of my charm anyway. They can just su*k me. Drunken Lowlife -
What sprayer to use?
Kirk replied to MudDuck's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Thanks guys. I was wondering about the amount I was putting on with the sprayer on the last job I did with it. Seemed light. Other jobs I have done with it seemed to be saturating better. I swear on this last deck I did they used the same wood they make pallets out of. Looked OK after I was done though. You said use a natural bristle brush, you mean like a hogs hair? I tried using an el-cheap o truck brush (synthetic from HD) on a shake roof a couple weeks ago and it just wouldn't move enough stain so I sprayer it. That right there made me VERY happy I had an airless! Kirk -

I got A reman 1420 SprayTeck from Gleem Paint for $175.00. Used it today with Ready Seal, works fine for me with a 411 and a 211 tip. I pad the horizontals. I'm cheap and don't use it every day so I could not justify the Titan dollars. SprayTech 1420 Paint Sprayer (Reconditioned) - Airless Paint Sprayers Kirk -
