    Finished up teak today. HO decided they wanted to go with ATO. Wasn't my first choice but they are moving to Maryland where it won't be as harsh as New England. Also they told me it will be in a semi-enclosed area and somewhat always covered. Color is Honey Teak. Best part of this job is when I delivered the furn. back to the HO, the couple buying their house was there and I ended up selling them on a deck job (950 sq. ft.)of the house they are buying at $2 per sq.ft. Sweet

    Stuff looks sweet. I love that color. I wish I would run into some of that to clean - only the cheap, plastic Walmart stuff here...

    If you have no idea what you are doing, the last place to practice is on a roof. Damage one and like mentioned already, you will be sued.

    Stay on the ground and start with house washing for now. You spent four hours on a roof, risking your life for $250 without any idea if you were doing it correctly? Not real wise IMO.

    There is a ton of information available out there - do your research before you regret it...

    Cleaned my roof (2200 sq. ft.) today to gain exp. Used a 4000psi/3.5 gpm machine and a 16'' surface cleaner. took me 3:35 min. to complete the job. Did not use any chemicals. roof tiles were real dirty, but by the time i was finished were squeeky clean. Is this good time with a 3.5 gpm pw? Had to go over the same area bout 3 times in order to clean it. I plan on charging for a similar roof $200-$250. It is an upscale community with an HOA. Is this also a good price to charge? My neighborhood is littered with low ballers. Seems every time I get home, there is a flyer or postcard of some kind advertising 130 roof wash with driveway sidewalk and a house wash!! Any info will help a fellow newbee....thanks

    Use the proper chemicals. Your pricing is too low. Never use a surface cleaner. Your welcome.

    I think a lot of the things that are known about roof cleaning comes from Mallard.I have seen his name around and actually read a bio about his business.I believe he does deserve some respect on this board.He has a lot of knowledge to share if he choses.I don't know that patronizing him is the way to get him to open up and share his ideas.

    His company has probably done more roof cleanings then anyone that I have heard of.

    I'm always amused when someone get on this and other boards and posts a pic or makes a statement, and if they are not a high number poster or on every board there is,people jump on em and attack what they say as if they don't know anything or they are trying to pass something over on us all.

    Slow down. He posted before/after pics of an awning cleaning. A lot of us can do the same thing, with low pressure and SH - nothing new. To claim that the "Mallard" system lasts 4-6 times longer without his reasoning or methods, is pretty pointless.

    I didn't criticize his business or anything else. I could do the same thing on these boards - post some pics, give my cleaning a fancy name that claims to last longer, and then not follow up with any facts.

    Bottom line, it isn't anything that "bleach jockeys" don't do on a daily basis, without the goofy jumpsuits.

    I thought about doing the pre printed proposals but I like having my own custom sheet with my logo. Sometimes little things like that set you apart. I apreciate all your input, I think I will just add a total and forget the extras. The reason I had the % box was because I have so manny military clients who get my military discount. But like you said I can just write that on the side.

    Why don't you an electronic version instead of the duplicate forms? Much easier to track down the road than through a filing cabinet. Make something up in Excel, and save each estimate in a PDF format.

    Keep it on a laptop in your vehicle and print with a portable printer while you are at the house.

    Hey all, I have never worked with treating or finishing wood but I would like to learn. I live on a pretty large corner and just recently had a new fence installed with treated cedar pickets. I really dont like the look of them and want to get into decka nd fence refinishing so what better way to get some experience than by doing it on my own fence right? Half of them are partially covered with green mold and so I'd like to know what would be the best technique for me to clean the pickets and then coat them with a light stain finish so they look nice.

    I know that I need to use low pressure and cold water but what about chemicals? How long do i let a certain chem set on the wood? Do i rense the wood first before applying and chems? ect.. ect..

    You recently had a new fence installed and it already has mold? How recently?
