Aluminum Siding - Do I need to do anything special?
dperrin posted a question in Residential Pressure Washing
I have a job to bid tomorrow for a guy who has aluminum siding on his house. Says he has mold that he wants removed. Can I use my typical mix of straight 6% bleach with some house wash downstreamed or does aluminum need special treatment? Thanks -

Acrylic Solid Stain - Should I Do It?
dperrin posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Looked at a deck today. It was badly worn and peeling in many places. My main concern is it was stained with an acrylic solid stain and many areas are still intact. I have only stripped simi trans oil based decks so far. Is it wise to take this on with our experience??? Can HD80 handle this stain? I have attached pics. I will only be stripping the top deck portion the rest (stair case, lattice work, supports) will be pressure washed only. Thanks. -
Acrylic Solid Stain - Should I Do It?
dperrin replied to dperrin's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Yes, that is what I have read in several posts, thats why I am trying to get as much detail as possible to make my decision. The customer does want to go to an oil base as he does not like the solid. He knows that the cost of doing the whole thing would be nuts, so he wants to just paint the rest of the stairs and lattice work in a similar color. -
Acrylic Solid Stain - Should I Do It?

A couple more questions please.... 1. $30, is that a gallon? 2. About how much do you think would be needed for a 21x16 deck with spindles. 3. Would I use it on the deck floor as well as spindles or just use HD80 on the floor. 4. How long should it sit, over night covered with plastic as I have heard some say or just an hour or two. 5. Do you just pressure wash as usuall once it has sat long enough Many thanks for any suggestions. -

Where do you get this 'jasco' and what is the full name? Is it stronger than HD80 or what makes it better? Thanks -
Removing waterbased stain vs oil wtih HD-80
dperrin posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Can HD-80 remove water based stain as well as it removes oil based? If not, what should be used. I've not had experience removing water based stain but I am told it is much harder. Can you tell by looking if a deck was stained with one or the other say a year or two later? -

By the way, If it were to streak using the light bleach and soap. Would the 2 step process correct the issue? -

Looks like the customers main issue is removing the mold not any problem with oxidation. My question is will the bleach do anything to the aluminum. Is this the proper way to clean the alumimum. Might be nice to know how to get any oxidation off while we are talking about it. Thanks! -

What is a safe minimum temperature to strip a deck. The average day time temp here in Atl has been around 53 the last couple of weeks. Is that warm enough? -
Help with good sale pitch
dperrin posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Hey everyone, been trying to get new leads from Service Magic. It seems that there is a lot of competition in our area (Atlanta). Not having much success in getting the jobs. I'm sure our main problem is a lack of sales skills. Can any of you suggest some sales pitches that work well for you. I imagine the goal would be to get the customer to say yes to us on the first contact, but not sure exactly how to make that happen. Could use some suggestions as relate to a first phone call and/or in person. I'm sure there are some strategies for both. Thanks for the help. -

Thanks for the invite. Montgomery is a bit to far from north Atl. Have to wait for something to happen a little closer. -

My understanding is that any job is legal except for cleaning concrete in Cobb county. (if you are referring to the drought). Although I contacted the water department in Bartow county just north of Cobb and they said concrete was fine as long as I am licensed. -

I have been using the max amount on jobs requiring removal of stain. If you say 3 oz will work then I will cut my dosage down a bit and see how it goes. That should help. The main reason I mentioned this at all is I have heard some guys buy a big bag of generic SH crystals and mix there own that way. I have heard it is much cheaper this way, although I dont have any numbers. Seems to me SH is SH. Its a chemical compound. Cant see there being much difference but the label. I guess its mostly a convienience thing. -

Some good points, I will work on my web site a little and I agree that Service Magic is not for me. Thanks. -

I have been using HD-80 the last couple of times. Is there a cheaper form of SH that can be used? HD is a bit expensive. -

I understand what you are saying as far as my website is concerned. But that aside, I am talking about what guys are saying to get jobs on the first call. Many times I have contacted the customer 10 minutes after recieving the lead (email or text) and when I call the customer they say, 'no thanks, I already have a guy that will do the work'. Or maybe I get the first call in and tell them I will come out later today or tomorrow for a quote and I loose the job in the mean time. Are these guys that use Service Magic just promising the world and low balling? -
Osborne brush or 60 grit sand paper
dperrin posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Hi, just wanted to get some advice and opinions on these two items. When deferring a deck or touching up, which is better an Osborne brush or sand paper? Also, I went to HomeDepot looking for something to backbrush with and they only had lambswool. Is this what most people are using. I am looking for something that will work well on deck floors to even out the stain after spraying. Thanks. -

Personaly I would rather not spray but getting into the cracks is such a pain. You almost have to spray. -

I am using WTW or RS depending on the customer. We have been using a roller but dont like the way it comes out most of the time. Have to back brush again much of the time. -

I use a web site for adsense revenue and sales leads. I position my site for both. As an example I am almost on the first page of google for 'pressure washing'. I have been working on spot for a couple months now. This is a very general phrase but gets lots of traffic. I will make a good bit of money each month from adwords but I will never get a job from this key word phrase. Most people using more specific keywords when they actually want to find a contractor for a job. So I also position my site for key words that are local to my area. Like 'acworth pressure washing'. I am #1 for this term, as well as others. These are people that will call me for a job. Yes they might click on an adsense ad but not likely. Mainly because there are almost no advertisers that use adsense for such small nitches. Anyway hope that all makes some sense.
