  1. I talked to customer today about staining a fence about 160 linear feet long, the fence currently has a solid stain on so i recommended cabot solid. No big deal but he wants the bottom 3-4" of the 4x4's which are placed every 8'feet to have a flashing on to decrease the weed whipping marks. Has anyone ever done this or have recommendations on this, thanks, John Peterson, Peterson Deck Restoration

  2. i know what you are talking about X-100, too many problems and the cedar tone is too orangy of a look. i can speak on Readyseal and TWP, i have used AC a little but not much and have not used Bakers. The ease of application is still critical, You are use to 2 products that make the application very easy to apply, Most Products show streaks and imperfections in the application. anyways, TWP has been showing fantastic results for me in regards to longevity. i am getting 2-3 years on floors and 4 years on vertical surfaces, Readyseal, i love the look and overall appearance, extremely easy to recoat if you already have Readyseal on. There should be a distributor in Wisconsin for TWP, you will have to order Readyseal online. Anyways, sounds like you have done your research, you have picked 5 of the best stains on the market to choose from. Good Luck

  3. We have had the problem with maintenance free siding, certain siding has a "chaulky look" (about 10% of the Maint. free siding), we get a little stain on it, wipe with simple green or any chemical, and leaves a streak. the only way to get it off is to come back with some kind of pressure washing cleaner, apply the cleaner, then pressure wash the cleaner off, the only way to decrease problem is wipe off with a dry rag when a little stain gets on house

  4. Quoted out a job the other day with a solid acrylic Behr stain on, Stain appeared to hold on deck floor and spindles. i talked to customer and he said most of Behr solid will peel off floor after every Minnesota weather. Whenever i have seen a solid deck we usually wash, little sanding and apply a solid Cabot on top which turns out nice. Hate doing solids but feel like it is better than attempting to strip an acrylic solid. anyways, do i attempt to strip behr solid or can i apply solid Cabot over existing stain. Thanks for your time,

  5. We have used TWP and Sikkens a little this year, TWP is so much easier to work with and easy to restain in a couple years, Sikkens can come out very patchy and show many imperfections in the wood compared to TWP. I will never touch Sikkens again, many HO's around here still think it is the best stain and drives my crazy. I had to resand a deck last week that was stained with Sikkens SRD cedar because came out patchy and crappy and ended up restaining with Readyseal, I heart readyseal!!!!

  6. We throw out our Maintenance letter every year offering 25-30% off the previous quote for whole deck again and also offer a different maintenance program only focusing on floor, steps and tops of rails which is a different percentage, I am always suprised how much quicker a maintenance coat is compared to the initial application 1-2 years after (how much stain soaks up and ease of pressure washing)
