From eeeeeeww to aaaaahhh!
Rodney replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Rod, did you chose hd80 because of the decks condition since it was a wash instead of old # 38. -
Shooting the tip across the yard is a familiar thing. When changing a tip, I point it away from everything and now have gotten in the habit of pointing it down to the ground so I can find the tip. It happen the other day.And for those that are familiar with shooting a tip what else gets shot out of the quick connect. Yep the oring and me with out a replacement that day. Aint that a B!+<#.

Estimate Sales Pitch and Strategy
Rodney replied to Mike Stahmer's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I am starting to wonder about my approach to estimates. I had a call the other day and a lady wanted an estimate on a pretty big job that included a fence, deck and screen porch in a high end neighborhood. It was late in the day and I was in the area.I knew if I did not stop by soon a hand full of others would be here before me. My schedule was full the enxt day so I went ahead to her house pulling my trailer, mud on my face and tired as heck.I appoligized for my appearence and she replied if I was clean then I wasnt working. Another company pulled up with their logo on their polo shirt as I typically do on estimates as I was leaving. Two days later I have the job? -
Mike what would you use to neutralize ox. Water?

Favorite House was Mixtures
Rodney replied to Jonathan Chiplock's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Power house is sold by sun brite supply out of Georgia. I have tried many cleaners that I ordered off the internet and I have also used dawn when I first started out.Right now I am using barlox. Is there a big difference between each soap? For me it is not. Some soaps are better but there price out ways their effectiveness. The key is 12.5% bleach and a good soap that will emusify and keep the bleach on the house longer.I love the soap that bob has but he and I talked and there is no way to ship liquid at a reasonable price.Steve's citra clean is also another great product. The shipping is not bad but using a gallon per every 5gallon of house wash mix, I went through it before I knew it. A good buisness wants to use the best so they stand out but a good buisness also wants to keep the cost down and pass it on to the customer. -
Made the mistake and mention that I saw a sealant for trek boards to help keep the black spores from coming back after I cleaned a home owners deck. Is there a specal sealant. I am guessing that he does not want a stain with any pigment. Maybe it was on another site but I thought I saw seymore use something.I dont think it was his trade mark woodsaver.

Composite /Trek board
Rodney replied to Rodney's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Seymore ,I believe the boards come grey. I could be wrong. The backside of the boards are ridged.I dont know if they are composite or trex.I am not familiar with either. I probably will recommend a clear sealer that can be purchased local. -
Composite /Trek board
Rodney replied to Rodney's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Thanks seymore.I dont know why I said woodsavers was for trade mark.I should have remembered Gray away. The boards I am talking about must be trek because they are already grey and they are only decking boards. The rest of the deck is PT wood. I believe I saw some on Rods pics on a deck he did on see dirt run. -
Pollen has not been a problem yet but those march winds are killing me.I have had to reschedule house washes all week. I feel for the guys around the coastal area. How in the heck do yall do it. Xjet and 15-20 mph winds dont mix.

Philip, My brother in law has been helping me since last year and he is my gutter man so to speak. He has been talking about the exact detail in spaying the GZ up the extension poll. If by chance you have pics or further info drop me an email. David is a tool and dye guy retired. I will get him to build one for use to use.
-
Dan, I have been actually thinking about how I can keep GZ from foaming. When I first wet my brush from the bucket the gutters clean better. After I start scrubbing is when the foam starts. This is when the gutters dont come as clean and there is a more likely chance that the foam suds fall and hit the siding on the house causing clean spots. This is my experience. I thought about using a spay bottle to apply GZ to the brush tring to eliminate the suds.

Wood Tux Wet
Rodney replied to RCBill's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.

Matt, My guess would be that if you blow the pollun off the deck that it would not effect the oil stain that penetrates the wood.If on the other hand, you were using a solid or a film stain then you mave have problems. I could be wrong but that is my 2cents. On another note, A man called and booked a house washing job for this week and called me back the next day and said never mind, my friend is going to do it.I wounder how long they will be friends after its done.

I have been asked to give an estimate on staining pre existing play sets. The wood is ACQ pine. The wood comes straight from the supplier wet and greenish due to the copper. After dring out it is a light brown. I saw one a year old that was not stained and the wood looked realy goood. I am guessing that the ones at home sites my have mildew or dirtier due to trees and folage. I am thinking about wood tux wet so I want have to make two trips. Any thoughts or suggestions about ACQ wood or the stain. I need a stain with little pigment as possible but still UV protectant.

Most DISGUSTING housewash to date
Rodney replied to Able Hands's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Matt 5 gallons of 12.5 runs $12.50 around here. Shelf life should be couple months. I would start with 5'vers add soap and use proportioners. -
Most DISGUSTING housewash to date
Rodney replied to Able Hands's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Matt, If you know your draw rate proportioners are great. You can mix a stronger house wash and it will last longer. Like Jeff said 12.5% will give you good results with some kind of soaps. Barlox that is in Xteriors HW runs me around $60 for 5 gallons but last for ever. You can easy do a 100 houses off of 5 gallons of barlox.Without the proportioners most guys use around 1.5-2 gallons of bleach with some kind of soap and the rest is water in a 5 gallon. Rinse aids and wax are other options. -
Jeff, When I purchased my DC hot water unit it blew two transformers off the beckett motor in 6 months. The manufactor replaced only one and the company I purchasedthe skid from replaced the other. It ended up being the battery.Although I had the correct amount of CC amps needed, I had to go with a larger CC amp. The distributor also paid for the new battery.Things do happen to new machines.I hope yours works out as smooth as mine.

Renting a Surface Cleaner
Rodney replied to Able Hands's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Matt, I use to rent a 24" surface cleaner from hollands rental for $25 day. They are located on western blvd in Raleigh.Since you dont have hot water then you may need bleach to help with the mildew as Jeff mentioned.Drop me an email if you have questions.Mike at extreior in Garner will be a good source of info for you. When I got my xjet 3years ago it came with 1/4" fittings. Mike changed them back to 3/8" after people where complaining. I have never tried 3/8 hose.
-
Patrick Did you mention the ratio you used for gutter zap. I use it straight and rinse quickly afterward.Like bforbis said you can rub the finish off the gutter if not carefull.PM me with the cost of the barlox. I have been getting it from the other source. The original xjet seems to have a greater distance. Also I agree on the 1/4" line, but the draw rate is bad when tring to use an extension wand.Even when holding the extension wand ground level. It will feed but as soon as you raise it the drawing stops. I only use 5-7 gallons of house wash for a 2000sqft house.Call me if you need help, we are less than 5 miles from each other. If you need another house to practice on, my wife said to come do ours. She has given up on me.

I see guys that use to much pressure when doing the edge after the surface cleaner and are using a 40degree tip. Mud , mulch and everything else blowing everywhere. I have been reducing the pressure and only using the amount needed to match the surface cleaner path and use a smaller diameter such as 25degree pattern. The spray is easier to controll and less pressure blows less dirt.

Degree of deviation from pressure washing?
Rodney replied to Tronman's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I will help homeowners that need a favor. My partner and I moved a TV stand last month from the 1st floor to the 2nd for a older couple in a high end neighborhood. They were all smiles and gave us a $50 tip for quick and curtious service. We have also had 3 other calls form their family and friends. As far as handyman work, I leave that to the handyman. -
I bought a field and stream from ****'S. It did cost 79.00 but it does not bleach out. It is breathable for warm and cold days. I have had it for 2 years. Good as new.

Aluminum siding , chalking , 1st house wash. These three things do not go together in my opinion. Chalking Aliminum siding has a potential to be a disaster, especially for an inexperience pwer, Not to mention for one's that have experience. I would not do this house being your first one. I try to avoid painted aluminum houses ,chalking or not.
