SC foams just fine for me with x jet. But your mix needs more SH than one gal in a 5er, way more for DS. I use 3gal SH, 2gal h2O with about 10oz of SC and jet dry w/ x jet. Just keep the plants watered before during and after. I like the x jet for this, you can turn off the chems and water the area.

Yea that guy knew all along he was going to hissy over the gutters and see if you'll do them free at the end just to get your check. He was just "fishing" you and as said I guarantee you any jobs he refers you to will do the same thing because he will tell them to hold off on the "extra" stuff and hit you with it in the end. Never fails when you get trapped into something extra free like that is when something go's wrong or tears up. Never fails.

Look at this One! Yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikes!
MudDuck replied to fireandrain's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Looks like someone built that down in a peetree dish. That house and roof looks like a great upsale when she comes back and see's how nice things are SUPOSED to look like. Make that sucka "bling gleem" and she'll have no choice but to have you do EVERYTHING else. lol Gotta love that. Also you stated that was 10 yrs worth? Maint plan should be a "gimmie" on that HO. -
Does anyone know of ANY PW supply store or where you can get chem's or 12% in the Charlotte or Winston-Salem area? Or even Eastern Tn. Thanks in advance for any assistance, reply's or PM's welcome.

Oh sorry I just re read it and it says Wilminton not Winston. Duh!!

Thanks for the info guy's and gal's. What is ICE in Winston Salem? that would be closer to me and cheaper than shipping!

Masking tools for sealing wood
MudDuck replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Great thread, thanks for the "bump". Could use some more pic's if anyone has some handy. I'd like to see / learn more. Hey Deck Guy wheres the pics of "The Davis Mask"? -
Yea I'd drop it 150.00 and call it a day. You've got what 50.00 in materials and make 300.00 profit for your day's work. 300.00 for a day's work isn't bad ya know. Thats what the bro is probly thinking about. I bet he knows what your materials cost were and just doing the math, thinking his bro just hit him for 450.00 for a few hours "his time". But during the convo I'd reiderate to him that you normally make more than the 500 for that job and it wasn't a "weekend fit in". For the purpose of a low key'ed re-enforcement to him that you have a profitable biz too. Maybe he'll start considering that into his request for service in the future and at least back off on the "right now" aspect. Lay the seeds for the "you want it right now at my "inconvinance price" or the "discount price" for yours?"

What's bro do for a living that he can "hook" you up on? Doe's he let you use that fancy new bass boat? What doe's he think would be reasonable? If he's like most "family" I know they want you to do things pretty much as a "favor", which is ok as long as they can do something for me later. Otherwise I just do it for whatever they think is reasonable or nothing but chem's. It's family, what can you say. Me, I never charge family or friends for my time, just cost and a big fat steak and beer. But I don't turn down a "tips" either, but you can't "expect" anything and I don't worry about it. Just get r done. Like loaning money to family or friends, don't do it if you expect it back.

sealer on plants
MudDuck replied to jnoden's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I didn't mean to literally forget it Beth, my point was to not get bogged down with a customer "milking" the situation or otherwise playing "gotcha!". Yea they have the right to get miffed "IF" they have a significant plant loss. I would assume that the customer was told that there very well might be some stress on some of the plant life in the immediate area due to the inherent risk of using toxic chems on the deck. That it doesn't happen often but IT DOES happen. I wasn't suggesting blowing the customer off, simply waiting until there IS a problem. Again, close a discounted a house wash, and send them a gift card to HD for the inconvenience (paid for by the house wash) and break even. Everyones' happy accept the employee who screwed it up and spent his day off doing the wash. -
I've got a house to do today but can't find anything but regular bleach. M5 X jet'in 3 gal 6% Bleach to 2 gal H2O with 10oz SC with some Cascade rinse aid in a 5er work ok? House, white vinal, isn't too bad but doe's have some oxidation and some "specking" from something (not artillery fung). maybe aircraft residue? (high air traffic flight lane) Thanks for any suggestions as they are appriciated. (maybe some Dawn?) Stripping and sealing 16 x 32 deck at same location.

sealer on plants
MudDuck replied to jnoden's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Sounds like the customer knows someone didn't do what they were suposed to do and she's going to milk it for all it's worth. I agree with Rod about soaking it down again with dish soap and forget it. Don't let her tie you down with "free bee's" because she's going to beat you up just as bad if they do die. I'd just tell her that you'll drive by every few days and look at them and if they do die to give you a call. That is all you can do. If you do have to replace them tell her you'll give her 40% off a house wash (deal she can't turn down) and use the 60% to pay for chems and plants, out of her pocket not yours, LOL. Upsale upsale upsale!!! -
Well I ended up using 3gal 6%, 4oz F13 and 2gal h2o with 10oz of Siimple C, no cascade and it cleaned and rinsed off very well. Thanks for the input.

What do you like least about wood care?
MudDuck replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
The check bouncing:lgtear: -
Yea it worked pretty good. I put 4oz per 5er on the first half of the house and it came out looking 10x better than it did. That deck looks almost like new from the drain off, lol. Going to F-18 it this afternoon. Would Power House or something else work better for a house wash than the Simple Cherry? Trying to figure if I should order something else to try next.

would about 4-5oz of F-13 gutter granade make up for some lacking kick?

Ipe' Nightmare for home owner
MudDuck replied to James's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Good news is you solve this one and you'll have the happiest customer in the world! With referrals aplenty!!! Nothing like straightening up some other guys "Charlie fox trot" to make the HO respect the quality (and price) of a true professional! -

Problem with Dara_Pine by Cox
MudDuck replied to Palmetto Home and Deck's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I'd take your vid camera and film yourself checking the moisture content when the new boards come in, put that days news paper in the shot (with headline readable)so no one can say it was a different product / day. And NO to signing any release, if they are not going to stand behind the second delivery I'd want my money back. -

Reaching out to a fellow contractor
MudDuck replied to plainpainter's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Yea I think an invite would be OK. I'd stay away from "cause your prices are too low" convo until he's in here and acclimated to the forum. -
On that note I did have a DM of a convinant store chain look at me like I was holding a gun when I told him his 6 pump 4000k flat work would be 400 ro 500.00. He said another guy only charges 45.00 for a store that same size at another location. I laughed at him and told him he owed me more than that just for the estimate.

I've got a deck set up thats at an old dive bar n grill which sets pretty much on a bluff 3200' w/the deck hanging off it overlooking about a 2500' drop canyon. (harsh weather! 75 degree today and calling 4 snow this Mon. 3 days) This thing has more snit on it than a kinder garden art room wall. Looks like everything from Thompsons to whatever the local painter / handyman / drunk could find (varnish / stain? no paint) to work off his / their bar tabs. Some shiny some dull some dark,,you name it. I've got some F-18 but just about afraid that wont work. Or anything for that matter other than a flame thrower. Do you think the F-18 will be enough and what ratio is still safe or should I order and try some HD-80. (never used HD 80) I don't really want to order anything if I don't have too. I haven't tried F-18 on anything this bad before and don't want to waist it or do it 3x and wait a year to final product. I'm going to A) put RS on it or B) just cover it all up w/ a cover stain but new owner wants some grain to show and look "pretty" for the tourist. Thanks for any suggestions.
