  1. Is 3000psi 2.7 gpm enough?

I'm just gonna say this and be done with it. My argument wasn't that A HOUSE can't be cleaned with a DIY machine, it can if you want to spend all weekend doing it like a HO. You could do it one cup of water at a time if you wanted to BUT his apparent obvious intention was to get into this business at least part time and was wondering if the equipment he had would be efficient to do so. The answer is NO and I don't understand why someone "in the business" would tell him "yea it will work". Giving this poor guy the impression he could or should start up. Keep in mind too Jakes in FLORIDA!!! PW's are a dime a dozen down there with good equiptment...How many of you guys would be on here posting laughing your ***** off about seeing some guy washing a house with that machine. And someone HERE is telling this guy sure go ahead it will work...Are you serious? My issue isn't with Jake and his 2.7 unit it's with someone 1) either screwing with this guy which isn't called for because to Jake he's looking for a serious answer to his question,,or 2) doesn't know what he's talking about and giving someone bad information or at least mis leading. Good lord theres enough hacks out there as it is ripping people off doing inferior work ON PURPOSE why would we encourage someone to do it unknowingly? If he had come on here stating "I JUST opened a new PW biz in Florida and got a 2.7 unit from HD, what soap do I need to use?" He would be laughed off the sight. Saying "yea it'll work" is at the very least mis leading him into thinking he can upstart a real PW biz. The guy is asking this forum a REAL question and he needs to be given a REAL answer. To me it was an irresponsible anwser to his question and I just couldn't let that go. Ask yourself this,,,would you sub a job to a guy who was going to pull up in a mini van and unload a 2.7 GPM Home D unit and a garden hose and do the job under your company name? If you say no then why would you tell him to do it under his name?
  2. Yea with just those two supports would scare me too. Hey Len I'd jam a couple of 4x6's under there up against the wall, facia board, maybe double up the 2x8 then jam it. You know some new HO going to come in there and stick his new jacuzie out there some day,,LOL.
  3. Is 3000psi 2.7 gpm enough?

With a 2.7 gpm HOME OWNER unit your not getting enough water on one spot at one time to flush it clean so what do you do? Crank some pressure into it? He's talking resi work by the way. You want to go ahead and recommend the red tip here while your giving advice. To someone who admittedly does not know what their doing? He's ASKING if he can use his home owner unit to start professionally contract cleaning. The answer is absolutely NO and to say otherwise tells me you don't know what your talking about. No you don't have to have an 8gpm hot unit by no means but you do have to have enough flow to do the job effectively. If you can't or won't drop 1k into a 4gpm cold unit plus the accessories you think he's going to drop that much on insurance for a year. Re read his post #1, "I presently have a pressure washer I purchased for chores around the house. I was just wondering if this was strong enough to tackle....If so, what chemicals should I use so I don't ruin...." Your not doing anyone any favors suggesting you can "get into the biz" with a home owner machine and no experience. He is ASKING a question that the answer is unequivocally is NO. By no fault of his own he's going to do a sub par job giving the industry another black eye because the HO now thinks.." I hired a pro to do the job this year and he did no better job than I did with my own little PW last year so I might as well do it myself or get Joe hack @ 99.99. And tells how many neighbors and or family the same thing when its not true but the perception is the same. You know how many people wind up hiring a pro that gets shocked at how much better the pro did than they did last year with their HO unit and tells everyone they know? Tons. And mostly it was the equipment that was the difference but every job he gets with his 2.7 unit thinks you or I can not do any better were just charging 350.00 more for nothing. F..n irresponsible. Your not only setting this guy up to fail or get sued your killing the rest of us. I don't want to get personal or tiffy but I see you don't have a business name and giving bad advice for both the guy asking and the industry so you might just want to leave it alone. This is a professional forum not "ask a hack". Jake, Russ in the previous post has some great advice there. Not saying you have to go get a ton of equiptment to get started but that machine is not enough to do pro work. Youll kill your market and your future biz name trying to force it. Good luck and hope to see you here for a long time.
  4. Is 3000psi 2.7 gpm enough?

Jake thats not a machine you could even think about using for what we do. Chris, that was the worst response / advice I've ever seen given here to anyone. Pretty irresponsible given the professionalism this sight is here to promote as well as the presence of company your in here too. It will not work. It does not push enough WATER to be effective on anything. Notice I said "push enough water" not pressure. You have to be at least 4 Gallons Per Minute to even start thinking about even a small job. Low GPM with lots of pressure = bad job with probable damage. You could do a better job with a garden hose and that wouldn't compete with anyone in this business on any job. Sorry but the comparison is like you decided you wanted to be a NASCAR mechanic (on the weekends) and walked into Dale Jr's garage looking for a job with the tool kit you found in the trunk of your wifes car. Spend a few MONTHS reading here and you'll get the gist of what you need to start out with. You don't need the "mac daddy" rig but that thing is not what is required to do this kind of work. Not being ugly just read and read more. Welcome to TGS by the way.
  5. Say NO to Gays!

If gay marriage passes it will be a one generation "fad". As a long time LEO in a major population area I spent a lot of time on domestic calls with gays. Talk about a circus,, trust me..LOL...They don't have the stomach,,the money or patience for the divorce court system. Yea they will all run out and "get married" because it looks cool and they "can".....once!! They switch partners like you change shoes. When they see the "hoops" you have to go through and the money involved to get divorced as well as figure out family court WILL NOT put up with any "drama momma's",,it will be a one generation "fad". It will work out for a few but most of them are bottom feeders working down at the mall and don't and won't ever have enough to fight over to justify the cost and aggravation of divorcing just to say "they were married". There is no benefit in it for 99% of them anyway. I don't believe in it myself either but don't let it get your shorts in a bunch. I view it more of a "meter" of the Ultra Libs just trying to see how far they can push their agenda. Whats got the Democratic party screwed up is they started catering to the black vote which then carried over to every ostracized weirdo faction in the country just for a "vote". Now the patients have taken over the asylum and the GOP is starting to do the same thing. A third party and term limits is all that is going to fix this type of crap or we might as well drink the Kool Aid and kiss the good O'l USA goodbye,,,get ready to start driving 3 cylinder cars and spending euro's.
  6. Cleaning an all season room

Don't know what a vinyle glazed window is...I'm sure soap and water can't hurt it..mild SH
  7. Since the US Gov is "bailing out" aka buying the mortgage company's bad debt properties and holding them for a year or three until market stabilizes, WILL they need maintenance? YES! We need to figure out how to get in the position to clean these properties. It should be an easy sell if you can get next to one of the management company's controlling this. Question is who are the company's? Has anyone heard anything yet? I bet it would be a good idea to figure this out and quickly! This would be VERY LUCRATIVE if you could figure this out and should be plenty of work for everyone minus the hacks without insurance. If anyone hears anything or has knowledge of "how to" please share. Also I guarantee you that 810 BILLION dollars will be mis used and they will catch people paying people 1500.00 to mow a 50.00 single dwelling lawn every week, kind of like the 1200.00 toilet seat or 400.00 hammer from back in the day. Not that anyone here,,,,,,,would take advantage of something like that but this could be a way to keep or drive the premium up and keep us all here in buisness during the tight year or two to come. Again if anyone figures this out please get your share but share with the rest of us. Does anyone else see this idea or am I just day dreaming? Just a food for thought in planing 2009. That is all.........
  8. Bar Stool Economics

Well I don't drink so by that I'm not comming over to your house drinking extra beer you would have to buy if I did. So by letting you drink alone,,,I'm saving you at least 10.00 by me not coming over so you owe me 8.00 for not making you have to buy 10.00 worth of more beer and your still saving 2.00. So pay up or I'll show up!!!!
  9. stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid!!

This problem is due to those "mom and pop" mortgage shops that popped up on every street and strip mall in the country. They didn't give a rip about CHECKING the validity of the info put on the application. (income / job) In fact they "coached" people concerning income amounts and what to put down to get approved. They didn't care because they got 3-6% on every loan they could get approved as soon as it was approved. They then sold their mortgage bundles to a bigger guy who then sold them to the big guy who could absorb some losses and needed some losses for their sheets then sold them to Fanny and Freddy. Those who got caught in the sub prime interest scam were told they would be able to "re finance" in a few years AFTER THEY GAINED SOME CREDIT by making payments on these loans and could avoid it,,,no problem...Bear in mind most if not all of these folks NEW how lucky they were to get a loan to start with so they jumped when given the chance at a "no money down" 110% to value loan. I mean heck I get a new house and another 15k in my pocket to buy new furniture!!! Who'd a thunk it. When the sub primes re set and things got tuff those folks just walked away because they didn't have anything in it except a little "rent money"...It was ACORN and special interest groups,,aka African american advancment groups that threatened banks with bad press about being racist and discriminatory to push these loans. The banks then learned to re package them and sell them to Fanny and Fredy aka privately owned Fed banks who could eat them, who were run by sympathetic Libs who were in the pocket of those special interest groups to start with...And here we are folks!!! Everyone in the biz knew this was going to happen they just took the easy free money as long as it was there to take. Just a big "pyramid pass the buck up and let the govt eat it" scheme is all it was. From the beggining.
  10. US govt buying properties

Well that makes sense,,given it's American tax money I'm sure they'll (govt) make sure it goes everywhere except back to us AMERICANS. "Thank you Sir may I have another".....:lgbonk:
  11. US govt buying properties

Niiiinty Niiiiiine Dollars,,,, even throw in the windows. LOL Ron you think this is viable? I would guess they are going to hire private mngment companys to oversee these properties. Some of your regular prop companys might go exclusivly to these contracts. Others will crop up I'm sure...Good time to have a big list of prop mngmnt companys and contacts on hand.

  17. How do you spray your chlorine?

Good point but if you need to get any cleaning penetration you should always use some kind of soap. Soap simply put is a "wetting agent" which allows water to penetrate 300% more than water alone. Thats why every fire truck has a big bottle of dish soap on it. For trash bin and bed matrice fires so the water can penetrate deeper / faster. It being a surfactant is only a by product of its original purpose which is to allow water to penetrate. We usually only talk about it being a surfactant because it allows the chem to hold in place so the chem can work longer but equally it allows them to go deeper too. Hot water is 37% more abrasive than cold water. Thats why when your clothes washing machine blows a hose its almost always the hot water side. This abrasiveness is the only reason why it cleans better than cold water. Put hot water with soap and you get 300% more water penetration with 37% more abrasiveness. Chems just kill the bugs and brighten but you have to get the water down to the bottom for them to work most effectivly.

Was very glad to meet some of the vendors I've been working with as they were great too. Glad to finally meet Bob from PT and the guys from Sun Bright. Was really glad to see all the rigs that showed up. I got some really good ideas from them. Can't over state experiance concerning set ups thats for sure. :cheers:The funniest thing happened as Len mentioned above. He kept looking at me crazy and finally said he's seen me somewhere before. It took us about 5 min to figure it out but we've known each other since what Len...93? I worked for him on a side job back in mid 90s for a few years doing Law Enforcment traffic control on an interstate contruction zone project. Len's the guy who invented the orange traffic barrel by the way guys..LOL...glad we made the conection there. Haven't seen him in over 10 yrs.
