2009 Sealer Poll
PressureX replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Only product I ever used was Ready Seal, and it works perfectly. So Im sticking with it, if it aint broke, dont fix it. -
A couple months later, and 3 more people asked me about doing an estimate, I turned down all 3 because they had Hardi Plank. Like I said before, I'll never touch it again, cost me about $900 out of my pocket to get it "fixed". So yall be careful, awesome information by the way Len, thanks!

I haven't read every post on this, but here is my take on it. When I started out, I used a 3000 PSI @ 2.8GPM Machine from Home Depot. And honestly still sometimes use it for very small jobs. Back then, I did a 2 story house worth about $300 in appx. 2 1/2 - 3 hours X-Jetting. That included Set-Up and Tear-Down (I didn't have a trailer, had to put the PW, waterhose, etc. etc. in the back of the SUV). So yes, it does work. But now that I moved on to a bigger machine ... im def loving it. As far as GPM and rinsing go. Def. having a small 2.7GPM sucked. I spent about 2 minutes applying chemical to 1 side of the house, and about 20-30 minutes rinsing ... lol.

Not much to do when it's windy and raining :D The couple phone calls I make in a day usually don't take more than 30-60 minutes.

So I sold MGS4 and GTA4, im solely playing madden 09 now :P

Now this might sound stupid, and I feel kind of weird asking this after how long I have been doing Pressure Washing, but what is the main difference between Bleach and chlorine? I have always used 12% sodium hypochlorite, but now, since SunBrite closed here in SC, and the only other place that sells is would charge me $35 for 5 gallons (compared to $10 / 5 gallons @ sunbrite), I am really considering using chlorine. But does it have the same effect? Thanks!
-
Im coming back to this topic now because I stumbled upon it and talked with Phillip Cain about it at the MB RT. I called every pool company in my imediate area looking for Liquid Chlorine. Nobody has it. Only the little tablets "pool shock" or whatever the heck its called. How ever I did find a place (Univar) that sells 12% @ $3.95 / gallon if I get 15 gallons, or at $2.50 / gallon if I get 53 gallons. So Ill be getting it from Univar from now on.

Ok, so I made up a new flyer for the upcoming summer season. I printed it out at high resolution (the original .psd file is over 8MB big ;o) on matte photo paper, it looks awesome, and is very sturdy. Now, besides from receiving feedback, does anybody know where I could get high resolution copies made? I was thinking about Staples Copy Center, and they charge about $1.09 / sheet, I was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative that you know about? Thanks for the input!

I have one lined up. But it doesn't help with all this rain here lately

Scrub, Scrub, and scrubbed some more with a butyl based degreaser. Boy did that one suck. Just glad I didnt do it, gotta love employees :D It did eat a hole in the pocket though with the rent of a lift and all the labor. So, we will not do Hardie Plank again. :) My instance was probably one out of a hundred or thousand, but that sure did scare me enough not to touch it again.
-
Yupp, that was my nightmare. In the end the result was improper installation of the Hardi Plank, which resulted in cracks in the siding itself (which you could barely see with the naked eye). The bleach solution (about 1-2% bleach was used) ended up staining away the red color of the weather wrap behind the siding, causing red color to stain all over the side. I personally will never touch Hardi Plank again, but many on here have good experiences with it and do them regularly. Good luck to ya man! Oh, and if you're wondering what we were using, it was 1 gallon of 12%, 1 gallon of QWIC Allbrite, and 3 gallons of water and X-Jet'ted

I need help. and lots of it.
PressureX posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Hey everybody, Are any of you wood restoration guys willing to help me out? I need to put in a bid for a fence & deck, deck has olympic sealer on it, fence is pressure treated and hasn't had anything done to it in 10 years. I have a bunch of numbers, measurements, and a lot of questions. Are any of you guys willing to help me out & call me? I'd really appreciate it. -

Yea I got the job. But only the fence, he decided not to go with the deck. Anyways, since this will be my first fence, I charged him $900. Now after reading all of this, im not all too confident that that will be enough, lol. Together the fence is about 1,351 sq. ft. 251 ft. long by 4 ft high, and then I added in the pickets. So it came out to a little over 1300 sq. ft. and I charged $900. Now i feel like I just kicked myself though. :O -

Thanks guys, I got the estimate out. Depending on how this project will go if I get it, I might get into wood restoration some more ;) Thanks for the tips! MudDuck: Im not sure yet, my fence is the same, and has the same light green discoloring, Ill test on my fence to figure out if I could do a simple wash, or need some HD80. Thank you very much! -

Thanks. I am looking more for how to calculate it all up though. For the fence which is like chalky on the light green faded places, I figured a good wash then RS, for the deck on the other hand, I figured to just strip, wash, sand, and then RS. What ya think? -
What about me? Im in charleston! haha just kidding. Have a safe trip man.

Ok, so we started on that house with Hardi Plank siding, as suggested, I used the same mix as I did with vinyl. 1 gallon 12%, half a gallon of allbrite, and 3 1/2 gallons of water. Well, here is the outcome of one side: It seems to be very light color in some places, and hace very light red spots everywhere. It does come off when scrubbed really good, but I was wondering if there is anything else I could try? Thanks. What does it look like to yall?

Hardie Plank again, major problem! :(

Well we have a Service Agreement on our site that is posted publicly for everybody to read. I always tell customers to read it since they will be bound to it. It does state: -

Well the weird thing was, the red didnt come off (neither did the paint all the way) it just kind of faded it out. It seems like the red "sunk" into the original paint, which all in all im totally confused about. It has got to come from under the siding though, since I looked, and wherever it was 100% closed (from one siding to another) there are no streaks, but if there is just a little bit of a gap/hole, there is red. It also smeared on the foundation (brick part under all the siding). I dont understand either why the red isn't coming off. Same subject, different question though. Can I be held liable for this? Seeing that apparently the siding wasn't installed correctly (water has NEVER got behind a siding, plus I dont use pressure, well, I do, but it is very very weak almost like gardon hose weak, not quiet). -

Jeff, I have also bought "Super Cleaner" from ACE Hardware. It's not Castrol though, sprayed that on directly and scrubbed a little bit, what it did was actuallyget rid of some paint of the house (thank god I did a test spot on a part where nobody ever sees it, lol) the paint is still there, it just "smeared". I got it confirmed now its coming from under the siding (the red). Thanks for all the help, Ill try to find Castrol Super Clean, never seen it before, walmart should have it? Ill also try a normal house wash again. Something has GOT to work. -
Unless the wire burns through :lgkick: haha
