Attention Texas Contractors: Need your contact info for customers
Christopher posted a topic in Contractor Help Wanted - Job Leads
Hello People, I am getting anywhere from 1 to 3 calls a week from people that are out of my service area that are looking for contractors to do work for them. Most of them do not want to be contacted so I ask them to submit the contact page from my website (most of the time how they found me) and tell me about the job so I can try to find a contractor for them and will send them the contractor's info and they can handle it from there. Yesterday I had 2 calls and this morning I had 1 call and the ladies from yesterday did not submit their info so I can't help them until they do that but the guy who called today said he is submitting the form but does not want to be contacted (tired of the telemarketers too) so I told him that I would try to find someone there in his area who can help him and give him their contact info. I would like to make a list of the Contractors in this state of what kind of work you do, years experience (for those of you I do not know), if you have reclaim equipment, etc... so I can let these people know when they call. If you don't want to be on the list, that is ok. If you do then after a few days or weeks I will send the list out to the others on the list so when others get the calls they can do the same thing so we all help each other out. This would be in addition to posting it on the boards because sometimes we are too busy to check the boards (working out in the field, etc...) and sometimes they need the job done quick but I might post them also. Some guys do not go to all the boards, they stick to only a certain board or two. Don't worry, I am not giving out the list to anyone but other contractors, I am not making my own bbs or anything like that either. Just trying to help out with those customers out there. PM or email me your contact and company info. Thanks. -
maximum gpm on home water source?
Christopher replied to boss's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Every house is different. Down south we have a problem with hard water and mineral deposits that will clog the galvanized pipes that go from the meter to the house. Over the years you need to have the supply pipe changed out so that is what I did when I bought this house because the water was barely dribbling out of the faucets. I ran a 1" line from the meter to the house and 3/4" to the bathrooms, kitchens and hose bibs and then 1/2" up the walls to the faucets for the most supply as possible. When I fill my 325 gallon tank here at the house it only takes around 30 to 40 minutes so I guess that is around 8-10 gallons a minute. I have been at houses and commercial properties that I would have to shut down the machine and wait until the water caught up and on a few places I could run both the 5.5 and 8gpm machines at the same time with the flow out of the faucet. You just never know so be prepared for the worst and you will be ready. I would have at least a 50 to 100 gallon buffer tank to be safe. You mention that you don't have room for a tank. Maybe you need to get a larger trailer so you have the room, the manufacturer will not warranty you burning up your pump packings or plungers due to cavitation and low water supply. Trying to save you from looking like a moron when the damage happens from not listening to good advice but it is up to you. What kind of rig do you have where you have no room for the water tank that will supply the pressure washer that is making you money? I hope you are not trying to put all that weight in the back of a little toyota pickup truck. Remember that water weighs 8.33 pounds per gallon so do the math and get your rig setup so you do not overload the vehicle carrying it. -

Blown Seal On Cox Reel
Christopher replied to rick77's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
There are a lot of guys out there doing more flatwork in a week than a lot of us do in a month using those super swivels. I think that it is just a better quality product. -
Happy Birthday Alan. Hope you are relaxing and having fun this weekend.

Blown Seal On Cox Reel
Christopher replied to rick77's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Sounds like a weak o-ring in the swivel. I would get the Super Swivel, the suppliers listed can get that for you, they hold up better in the long run and can be rebuilt also. Not the first time I have heard about a problem with that brand when new or a couple months old. I bought some of the immitation rapid reels that you find for sale very cheap, the o-ring blew out within the first month so I just put a plug on the end of the hose and a coupler on the end of the jumper to the hose reel. This way you connect when ready to run and disconnect after de-pressuring the line and ready to roll up. Very handy on some large jobs where I just drop the hose there to go refill with water (large job where no water within a mile or more) or need to move the trailer instead of rolling up 200' each time and then unrolling when ready to go again. I will be ordering the Super Swivel for this hose reel and will still use the plug/coupler so even though I can roll/unroll with the hose connected I will have the ability to disconnect for those certain jobs again which helps a lot and makes the job a lot faster. -

I have got my biggest and best jobs from companies finding my website on the internet. Usually when people find my website and take a good look at it then they are more educated to what I offer and I can close between 50-80% of them where the yellow book it is a lot lower, mostly price shoppers. There is a lot more to having a website, you need to have professionals make sure it is SEO, have relevant and important information regarding your business, make it easy to view and understand, etc.... You can't just make up a site, throw it up onto the internet and wait by the phone for customers to call, it does not work that way most of the time unfortunately. You have to keep working on it and keep it ranking on the search engines. Don't fall for the "Online Directories" or "Online Registry" scams out there, there are a lot of them that will send you a bill and hope you pay it. They will send several types of bills and try to trick you into paying, BEWARE. _________________ Superior Power Washing Chris Chappell 361-853-2513 prostaff@superiorpowerwashing.com Exterior House Cleaning Corpus Christi Texas Cleaning Driveways and Sidewalks Corpus Christi Texas

Should we be supporting new startups?
Christopher replied to plainpainter's topic in Business Topics & Tips
I agree with what most of you have said here. That thread on PT State could have been a lot more professional, it could have been a warning on the market situation in Michigan and how the economy is very bad there instead of being more of a discouraging ramble. I have been helped a lot on the boards and I have tried to help a lot of people on many of the boards but I will help them as long as they do something to help themselves like doing a lot of reading on the older threads on topics they are interested in and when they have questions, just ask. That thread could have been handled totally different in so many ways. I agree with Tony, I have spoke with Tony some in the past and he is a great person and a great businessman. I understand his concerns and feel bad about what happened to him when he tried to help out a new person. That is a shame and could happen to any one of us at any time, we have to be careful of who we help. We always need to remember that our potential customers can and do view the bbs out there and will see how we act and that might be a determining factor if we are called to bid on a job or not. Most of us do not mind helping out others as long as we feel like we can trust them and hope we don't get burned with our goodwill efforts. -
That is a shame! If you have something on paper then the next thing would be to go to small claims court. It always happens when you try to be nice to people, some will do things like that or take advantage of you in other ways. I wish I had the answer for you but you don't want to wait too long as there might be a time limit. Call the courthouse and see what steps you need to take and whatever other expenses are involved, add those in. Good luck. _________________ Superior Power Washing Chris Chappell 361-853-2513 prostaff@superiorpowerwashing.com Exterior House Cleaning Corpus Christi Texas Fleet Washing Corpus Christi Texas

I do not know the process but at the courthouse they can explain how to do the lien, that is what I would do before the property is sold, in case he is putting it on the market. A lien will stop the sale until th lien is paid. A lien might be put in the public record (newspapers), I am not sure, so everyone can see and then people that know him will see that and know what kind of person he is. I would do this since he is dodging you and will not pay. A lien will let him know that you are serious and mean business. I would send him a certified letter stating that you are putting a lien on his property and will now have to pay for the court costs, job costs and your personal expenses to do the lien now. I think a lien is only good for 17 years but I could be wrong. That is all I know about that which is not that much. hahaha Good Luck! __________________ Superior Power Washing Chris Chappell 361-853-2513 Fleet Washing in Corpus Christi Texas Exterior House Cleaning in Corpus Christi Texas

For those that have over 200' on your reels for Power Washing
Christopher posted a topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I know some of you guys have way over 200' on your hose reels but do you use the hydraulic threaded couplers to join the several sections together or regular plug/couplers? I just put on a hose reel that I had in storage and I have 200' on it and can put another 50' on it. Just wondering how you guys do this. I know that the threaded coupler might be hard to disconnect later on but the plug/coupler will be a little easier, even if it is seized up. I know some of you buy 100' or 50' sections and just add on until you get the length you want on the hose reels. What are your connections you prefer? _________________ Superior Power Washing Chris Chappell 361-853-2513 Exterior House Cleaning in Corpus Christi Texas Cleaning Concrete Driveways Sidewalks and Walkways in Corpus Christi Texas -

Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Great idea of the unloader block Kevin! I am working on something, maybe a bypass because when I have the downstream injector connected, it restricts the flow to the surface cleaner enough that it does not clean as good as it should so I slow down the machine, turn it off and take out the downstream injector. I am thinking about a bypass for the injector so it can stay in one place but when I need to use the surface cleaner, just open the bypass and close the valve to the injector. It is simple enough but it will cost like $80.00 for the 2 ball valves, "t"s, and fittings to do this and maybe 2 times a year change out the ball valves and more often than that, change out the downstream injector. I thought about putting a ball valve on the end of the whip hose before the injector but when working with Hot water, I don't want to take a chance again with getting burned in case the ball valve leaks when taking out the injector. Any other ideas? Thanks. _______________ Superior Power Washing Chris Chappell 361-853-2513 Low Pressure Roof Cleaning in Corpus Christi Texas Shingle Roof Washing and Tile Roof Washing in Corpus Christi Texas -

That is a good idea of the hose protector. I was going to use electrical tape or duct tape or maybe some of the heat-shrink tubing to put over the coupler so it does not get snagged so much. Thanks. -

I was also thinking of using the threaded couplers so no chance of o-ring failure too. Not sure what I am going to do right now, I might hold off adding that extra 50' for now, just need to get used to this hose reel, it is wider than the Rapid Reel that I had on there but the sides are not as tall but it does hold more hose. It is a cheap immitation of the Rapid Reel that I got on sale a year or so ago and I know the paint is going to start peeling like the other 2 I put on the trailer last year. Within a few months of putting them on the trailer the paint started peeling off and they did not even have hose on them yet, I just wanted them on the trailer so as I got the hose I could start using them. That is the last time I buy an off-brand hose reel. The Rapid Reels I got with the trailer in 2004 have been great, just wish I could fit more hose on them but the rust finally made them unusable and unsafe for pressure. _________________ Superior Power Washing Chris Chappell 361-853-2513 Exterior House Cleaning in Corpus Christi Texas Cleaning Concrete Driveways Sidewalks and Walkways in Corpus Christi Texas -

I have been wondering if the hose reels really restrict the flow because the inlet/outlet on most of the brands are 3/8", 1/2" or 1" so the 3/4" is not common on the major brands. My supply hose reel has the 1/2" inlet/outlet with a reducer bushing on the inlet/outlet for the 3/4" for using 3/4" hose. I am wondering if you should go up to the 1" inlet/oulet for more flow because there are jobs that seem to have good pressure/flow but I am thinking that the hose reel inlet/outlet might be restricting. Do you think it would be worth it to modify/convert a 1/2" hose reel for more flow or buy the larger 1" capacity or is it not worth it? Just trying to figure out how to get more flow to the tank but without the hassle of connecting/disconnecting a jumper to the hose reel (not using the insides and swivel of a hose reel, just using it for storage) and to the tank for each job. I am working on a bid for a chain of stores that would mean between 4-8 per nite if I get the job and do not want the helper forgetting to connect/disconnect the jumper if I decide to go that way. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. _________________ Superior Power Washing Chris Chappell 361-853-2513 House Washing Services in South Texas Exterior House Cleaning in Corpus Christi Texas
