PWNA Convention in Dallas, Texas
Christopher replied to Everett Abrams's topic in Industry News & Events
I had a little time available to make the call to 1-800-393-7962 and a guy answered and I mentioned about the schedule and that I was told that there were some changes made and that I would like to see the new schedule and the guy said that the schedule is on the website and I mentioned again that there were some changes made that do not show on the posted schedule. He asked me to hold and then Jack Pitzer came on the phone and I told him the same thing and he asked me for my phone number and said he had to go through a pile of papers and would call me back. He called me back and said that there was "NO APPRECIABLE DIFFERENCE" in the schedule and I asked to see the changes that were made and he told me "THERE AREN'T GOING TO BE ANY CHANGES". I told him how I liked last year and I wish that there was a lot of classes I would like to go to but they were all scheduled together just like this year and I could only go to a few that I really wanted to attend. I told him that I was new to the business and wanted to learn all I could and this would determine if I was going. I said Thank You and then hung up. The people with a lot of experience will get to do things at the Convention without worrying about missing classes because they have a lot of experience under their belts but what about us new people? I thought that the PWNA is trying to get new members. I thought that they might try to attract new members that are also new to the business. If I just saw this site for the first time and heard about the Convention, I would look at the schedule and then think about what it will cost to fly there, rooms, Convention cost and what benefit I will get out of it. One or two classes the whole first day, one the second and one the third day then come home. For a beginner who is very hungry for information I would really be disappointed and would seriously think about going. I went last year and there were more things to do but part of that was due to the joint convention with the Window Washers. On Friday there are bootcamps for Wood, Kitchen and Environmental and then on Saturday these seem to be repeated. Could we have the first day classes repeated during the times of the bootcamps on Friday and Saturday? Are the Bootcamps that are not the Certified Bootcamps repeated on Thursday and Friday or they two days long? This is where we could have some of these great first day classes repeated. I am not trying to bad-mouth the PWNA, but just expressing my opinion as a beginner. I hope people will read this, especially the beginners. -
Hello Everyone, A friend of mine was telling me of this really good cleaner/degreaser called Mean Green. Has anyone heard of it? Has anyone tried it? What kind of results? Please post or email me. I would like some response before I try it out. Thanks.

I am wondering how long you can have chlorine or caustic (sodium hydroxide) in your shur-flo or flojet before you rinse it out. I am bidding on a gas station with 12 pumps and there is a little bit of oil that I would like to pre-treat but will need to use the surface cleaner to clean everything. Could I pre-treat 2 bays then clean them then do another 2 bays and at the end (probably 2 to 4 hours later) rinse out the pump? I do not want to pre-treat all of the bays at once because of having to move the trailer constantly, re connecting the water hose, do not want to let the chemical dry, etc.... I am thinking of doing the hand truck with tank and pump and battery thing instead of leaving everything on the trailer. Please tell me what you think and of experience with having to do a lot of pre-treating and a lot of time before you can rinse the pump out. Thanks.

Here where I live there is a Pool Supply store that sells 10.5% for $5.99 a gallon in the throw away containers. When you buy in bulk, there is only one place here that will sell it for $1.95 per gallon. If you do not have a container then there is a $50.00 deposit on the drum until it is returned. I wish I could find it cheaper.

Hello Everyone, I am trying to find out which chemicals need to be in dark containers because of light sensitivity. I have some white containers and need to know which chemicals not to put into them so they do not degrade. If anyone knows or knows of a website I would appreciate it. Thanks.

what is your average sq. ft. per hour?
Christopher posted a question in Residential Pressure Washing
Hello, I am trying to find out what everyone's sq. ft. per hour cleaning on concrete is so when I do some bigger jobs, I can time myself and see how I am doing. I have seen in some posts from 1000 to 2900 sq. ft. per hour. I am doing this by myself with a hot water, 3000psi, 5.6gpm machine with a 24" steel eagle. Please let me know how much you do per hour by yourself. Thanks. -
Hello Everyone, My Steel Eagle 30" 2bar cleans very well when you walk very slow. I have a 3000psi, 5.6gpm hot water rig. It came with 15 degree tips and I ordered some 25 degree tips a while back that I will be changing out. I will use a stop watch and clean some concrete with both sets of tips and see which ones clean faster. I am thinking that the 25 degree tips will clean faster. I have been told by several people that the 30" really needs about 8gpm to clean at a decent speed. I wish I would have known that before I bought it. I am thinking of selling it and going with the 24" 2bar machine. Does anyone have the 24" 3bar Whirl A Way? I am trying to find out how good they are. A good friend of mine plumbed both of his machines together (4.5gpm and 5.6gpm) and tried it on his 24" 2 bar Steel Eagle and he told me that it only cleaned a little bit faster than just using his 5.6gpm machine. He noticed that there is not a lot of clearance from the nozzle to the ground so he has a set of old spray bars that he is going to cut of about 1/4" off and re-thread the fitting so it will raise the nozzles up 1/4" higher from the ground. He is thinking that it might clean better because the fan is not spreading out enough that close to the ground. Anybody try this or have any suggestions?

Hello Everyone, I am trying to find a small block valve or ball valve for a 3/8" hose. I need the valve to have hose barbs (similar to the X-jet M5) for my trailer rig project. I will need 2-4 valves. I have looked at a lot of websites and checked around locally but have not found any. If anyone knows please let me know where I can find them. Thanks. downstream injector installation questions
Christopher posted a topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Hello Everyone, I am getting ready to install my downstream injector I purchased last week. I was looking at it and the passage through it is very small. I am thinking that this will cause some back pressure for the pump if it runs all the time. Does everyone install this before the hosereel or just before the gun or after the gun? I am thinking that maybe I need to put in a "T" so I can by-pass it when I am not injecting chemicals. Does anyone have any pictures to share so I install it correctly? Thanks for any help. Hello Everyone, I have read a lot of the older posts but I am still learning and need help with what to use to neutralize different chemicals. I know that you can dilute them with water and keep watering them down will help but I would like to know what to use to neutralize chemicals such as: Caustic or Caustic based strippers Acid or Acid based chemicals I have searched the internet but I cannot find any good answers. I am new to the business and want to work as safe as possible. If I were to have a small spill, I would like to know what to do to neutralize it or what to use to neutralize the different cleaning chemicals. Thanks. Hello Everyone, On my way home tonight I saw a crew cleaning a fast food establishment. I stopped and talked to them. We started talking about surface cleaners and they had one similar to the Hydro Force (4 casters, aluminum or stainless deck and handles) that they said was made for them by a friend and they are having a couple more built. They were working for a company but had their own business as well. They did not know the pressure of the machines on the truck but the engines were 16hp Vanguards. I explained how my 3000psi, 5.6gpm, hot water machine could clean very well only the 30" surface cleaner with 2 nozzles will not clean very fast. They turned on the pressure washer and started the surface cleaner and the guy was walking very fast and the surface cleaner was cleaning as fast as he was walking. The cleaner had 3 nozzles but the tips were worn and I could not tell if they were 15 or 25 degree tips. It was incredible how fast the surface cleaner would clean, it was at least double or triple the speed that I could clean with mine. I started wondering if it was the tips (possible 25 degree) or higher pressure or if 3 nozzles clean better than 2. I thought I would ask everyone what their opinion was about this: Do you think if i changed the manifold and put a 3 bar manifold it would clean as fast as the other guy or is it just the tips or a combination of the two. I have been in business for about 6 months and would like to be able to clean concrete that quickly but do not want to buy another surface cleaner yet as mine is still new. Anyone seen a difference going from 2 to 3 nozzles or change out the nozzle sizes and seen a big difference in cleaning speed? Thanks for any help and advice. faster cleaning surface cleaner
Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Has anyone tried to go from 15 degree nozzles to 25 degree nozzles? If so did it clean faster? Has anyone changed from a 2 bar setup to a 3 bar setup? If so did it clean faster? I would like to make mine clean faster since I cannot buy another surface cleaner right now. Thanks for any help. -
need help with downstream injector questions
Christopher posted a question in Residential Pressure Washing
Hello Everyone, I have a 3000psi, 5.6gpm hot water machine that has an upstream injector for chemicals. I do not want to put anything into my pump so I was wondering if I could re-plumb that injector to use downstream. It has hose barbs on both ends so I might have to buy a downstream injector. Another question is where do I install it? Between my heater coil and my hose reel? I do not know and people told me not to run soap or other chemicals through my heater coil because it affects the chemicals. Please tell me what kind of injector (adjustable, non-adjustable, steel ball, ceramic ball) you think would work well. I will be downstreaming soap, degreaser, and just about any chemical through the hose depending on the job. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Hello Everyone, I was having my 325gal water tank lettered yesterday along with my tool box and after an hour the letters started peeling off of the water tank. The water tank is either polyethelyene or polypropylene and I need help with how to get the letters to stick. Maybe I need to paint the ends of the tank so the letters will stick. The Painter said that the paint will have to be a gloss enamel for the letters to stick. The Painter had never lettered a tank before and did not know what to do. The letters and numbers were vinyl with adhesive..The Commercial ones, not just the ones you buy at the store. Does anyone have any ideas? Anyone run into this problem before? Please help. Thanks.
