  1. Hi Rich,

    I’ll give you my .02.

Do you use their products now? Do the products work and you are satisfied with the performance of the product line? Does the manufacturer fit in with your business model? Why are you not getting the referrals vs them? I understand marketing but ???

To me these are the key points. I think there are bigger questions to be answered.

If a manufacturer is going to give you work – Great. Remember, your name is on the bottom line. Your selling your services based upon what you can deliver to the customer. People call you based upon your professional work.

I always test new stains. If the next best product comes a long after testing, I’m willing to give it a try. Testing on a deck is a no-no in my book.

After all I said, getting to eat everyday is also very important. Give me a call anytime.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Lenny,

I have done my share fare on Cambara wood. Cambara is for those who don't want to upgrade to the Ipe. Where as Ipe does not the stain, Cambara needs the stain just like PTP.

Please tell me the results you are looking for & I can better answer your question.

How long has the Cabots been down. What is you maintenance cycle? How long do want the finish to last? etc.

Attached is a before & after pic of a Cambara deck.

  3. Here are a few pics from one of the Ipe decks I did. This is really 4 decks. All stained with WTW.

Ceilings are Cypress. Supports are PTP wrapped with Cedar.

No more posts for a while. Spring is here and the phone won't stop ringing. Those in the north, hang in there. It is about to hit.

    Everyone have a great year.

I'll post any neat decks I have coming up.

  4. I didn't say nor would I say that my business model would work for someone else. it problably would not. We all are different. A good thing.

For example, I have customers ask if I can wash the house. 90% of the time I tell them no. If I do say yes, they pay me very well. I just don't want to wash houses, driveways or gutters. I deal with wood and have decks lined up. It sounds liked your business works very well with what you do.

Let us all be successful with what works for each of us.

In every major market that I've studied, there is more wood in need of restoration or preservation than there are qualified wood restoration contractors.

In other words, the demand exceeds the supply.

In every market, there are those customers seeking quality.

Wood-Tux does last longer and cut down on the required maintenance. Rather than yearly maintenance, it only requires attention every two to three years. The maintenance is extremely easy, and much faster than other products that require you to strip the entire surface each time you return for maintenance.

When you are selling to customers based on quality, you will do fewer jobs for more money. Because you don't have to go back every year for maintenance you can schedule more new work at your premium. The customers who demand quality aren't going to forget you in 3 or 4 years. They will remember you and appreciate that you delivered the quality they desired.

Russell, stop it. Am I stealing your business model or are you stealing mine?!.

The demand vs supply in the Atlanta market is untouched. The above quote here is 100% right on. To all, Russell has hit the nail on the head.
