  1. So am I going through that Mid Life thing ....

Come on Michael, You've got more toys than all of us combined. Post em up! Help Jim get his view counts up! Sorry Celeste, you can't participate. You don't have a ______________. At least as far as I know. (We are talking about motorcycles right?)
  2. So am I going through that Mid Life thing ....

Ok, I'll play along and let's build up some self esteem for Jim. My midlife crisis has passed. I thought I wanted to relive some old "free" days and spend some time alone so I bought this: Too Slow so I bought this: Biker friends said it was gay. Luckily my best friend totaled it within 48 hrs of my paying cash for it. Unfortunately it wasn't insured yet. So I went out and bought this: I did the 1/4 mile in less than 11 seconds and topped out at 174 mph (GPS) once. When Chris moved out and I had no one to ride with I was bored with it and got this: Meanwhile, got this: And this: All this happened in a 4 year period. Mid-life "thing". Then I realized - "Hey, I don't like being alone". I didn't like doing things by myself. I didn't even enjoy doing things that the rest of the family can't enjoy. I sold or gave away all that stuff. My salesman got the BMW. Fayth and I still have a couple of dirt bikes that we ride together. Once I had the stroke I realized how lucky I was to have my family to live my life with. So now I'm happy with the Crown Vic. I can fit all seven of my closest family members in it with no problem if need be. I'm sure a lot of you guys have had a lot of toys. Post em up and let's give Jim the self esteem he deserves. And John T, can you intall the green dots please?????
  3. So am I going through that Mid Life thing ....

No, Ron, it rides a tricycle.
  4. So am I going through that Mid Life thing ....

Maybe John T told him if he gets enough hits he will install the green dots????? Maybe the hit count is part of the mid-life "thing". You know, Jim, I've lost a lot of weight. I make a lot of recipes. Here's a recipe I just threw together that might help. In a large bowl mix 1 part self esteem with two parts humility, no, make that 3 parts humility. Mix a cup of patience, with a pinch of understanding and set it aside for later. Very slowly add in experience, not too fast. Avoid the temptation to embellish with extra seasonings of BS or overwhelm the dish with too much condescension. (This is a rookie baker mistake) Add in the cup of patience and understanding and bake all ingredients for 2 years in the forum oven without interruption. (No bans, no pulling out and whining because it's not done yet and no lying about the ingredients just to stay ahead of your competition and look good. (It doesn't work, even though you might think it does) Remove from the oven and top with the respect you earned by helping others without whining, complaining, lying, cheating, embellishing, gossiping, investigating, or tearing down other contractors behind their backs during the two years baking. Let cool for 1 year, then enjoy your position as Master baker. Just like with any dish, miss any steps and you have to start all over again. Let us know when you want to start. We'll all be behind you hoping you make it all three years. I'll be there too. The recipe you've been using hasn't worked for you or anyone else. Good luck!

Jim, I don't recall you and I ever talking about Lexus, Lincoln or BMW. In 2010 I had a BMW and you showed no interest in BMW. You did, however show a lot of interest in the Genesis flagship Hyundai Genesis Sedan: Takes on Luxury Cars Mercedes, BMW & Lexus | Hyundai I told you that due to the fact that I formerly sold new cars that I would not buy a Genesis because it's mother company is Hyundai and while they have increased in quality over the past few years, they are no where near the other brands yet. You brought up the fact that it had much more horsepower than my BMW or the same size Mercedes. AND you mentioned the fact that it looked like a Mercedes from the front. You were so sold on it I was enticed to go take a look at one out of curiosity to see what all the hoopla was about. I drove it. It did have good horsepower, but it took a while to wind up. The brakes were inferior even to my Crown Vic. The ride was stiff but very quiet. By the time I made this test drive you and I were no longer conversing. I have always believed that Lexus/Toyota make some of the best quality, but underachieving vehicles on the market. I also believe that most American cars are junk. I bought the Crown Vic because Ford did not take the government bailout money. I know I didn't buy a new one, but I am supporting Ford in Parts and ALL our trucks are Fords now. I also bought the Crown Vic because I could pay cash for it. I was tired of $700 + monthly payments and insurance in the mid $300's per month for each vehicle. It was the right decision. I'm certain I will buy another Crown Vic, or two before the body styles look too old. We took this car on a 9000 mile vacation and it performed flawlessly, comfortably and quietly with mileage in the 20's. I've put almost 40k on it and have spent less than $300 in repairs excluding wheels and tires. (On the other hand, although it cost me nothing out of pocket because of the warranty and service contract - The BMW averaged over $2k in repair/brake work per year.) I would have been unhappy with the BMW on that trip. It rode too rough, got worse gas mileage and was cramped with a lot less trunk space. (Plus cops didn't even give me a second look in the CV) The performance isn't measurably greater. Here is a race between them in Kuwait or somewhere.

Hey, I just realized someone stole my car off my wheels and left me with a cop car! Yeah, that's right. I have to have the high performance GT500 wheels and meat to keep this beast on the ground. (Otherwise it floats and will fly away at speeds above 100) :)
  7. So am I going through that Mid Life thing ....

He's only got two rigs Robert. :) Now the Crown Victoria....that's a millionaire's car. My favorite cars have been the ones I've paid cash for.
  8. Good bye, 2011

That is a nice ride Rick! We had a doctor friend that bought a similar one, but he had a hard time turning the steering wheel with that shed he carried over his tool, so he sold it. Looks like you won't be having that problem! :)
  9. So am I going through that Mid Life thing ....

You could pass it on and get Chris S. some new teeth. He'd be very grateful. They might end up being the prettiest teeth you ever came across. :) His were breaking off and developing holes at a rapid pace due to something he inherited from his mother. He just got unlucky. His full sister was blessed with great teeth (as I was, I'm 46 and have never even had a cavity) but poor Chris was living in misery for 2 years. He had all the top ones removed. I hope he can afford to have those perfectly aligned chicklets like you have within the next few years.

Wow. Toot. Waking up? Who slept? What about Cid? Who needs Viagra when you're stuck like that anyway for eight hours? Jim, I worked at the Hungry I and Big Al's back in those days. All you had to do was shut up and listen to their stories and you were gold. Those were the days. The days of hell. I'm driving a Crown Vic now. Cash. Bimmers are gone. It's the Obama economy. Wedded bliss is good. Thank God she doesn't care about those days. :)
  11. Career coming to an end..another one keeps going.

What do you think guys? Should we give him one tip to keep in his pocket just in case? :)
  12. Career coming to an end..another one keeps going.

It's going to be a big change for you John. Keep you gun in your pants brother!

  14. ShopVac with pump out capability

Missed the float switch part. Here is one of our lowes pumpout victims. Works great for a few months. Runs about $100 Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  15. ShopVac with pump out capability

Will that pump run dry Nigel?
  16. ShopVac with pump out capability

I'm familiar with the bucket vac. What pumpout did you install in it and how? We've been using the Lowes Blue one's with pumpout and throwing them away about every 6 months. if this thing was powered by a 25cc leaf blower gas motor I'd:
  17. Good bye, 2011

I wish I was an art guy. I can't even stay in the lines in a coloring book! I'm just a science geek!
  18. Good bye, 2011

Seasons don't make much difference in my business. Although I was wishing I had Goretex pants on at 38 degrees this morning with water to my knees! We had to work on iced up roofs this morning. How does a roof ice over at 38 degrees?????
  19. So let me get this straight. The Pwna, not being content with simply shopping BMP's that were overwhelmingly rejected by the industry, now one-up themselves by bringing on the guy who said "One drop of caustic in the sewer system will destroy system" as their enviro chair. (what is the MSDS for Draino again?) The hits keep coming boys and girls. If you couldn't see where they've been going with this for years, now you'd have to be blind not to see it. Congratulations, by the way, Jim.
  20. So if I am understanding this right, if one wants to be appointed to a leadership role in the org all you have to do is "not" join. (And be banned from most of the industry boards) On the other hand if you want the directors to fly someone to your city and count your rigs and call your competitors all you have to do is join. Where do I sign up? :)
  21. Profit v.s. Not for profits

Back to the EPA issue. The Power Sweepers association has done a good job of taking an offensive posture and has convinced the EPA that they are their biggest ally. They didn't do this by coming together and showing how they can "reduce" the pollution they "create". They did it by showing that contaminates left alone, will wash down the storm drain and have placed themselves as a friendly force to help reduce that contamination. This relationship didn't happen overnight. It was the result of years of putting up the fight to show the EPA the extend of their ability to combat pollution. We've had 20 years and we are still presenting ourselves as evil polluters that have to be corralled with strict regulations. Where has the lobby been to present us as an ally in keeping the environment clean? They don't have to deal with a bunch of ridiculous BMPS that double the workload and the cost of the jobs. That would be self defeating for the industry AND for the municipalities. Sweeper trucks in the summer put down far more water directly into the street than most of our rigs do. But yet they work with impunity because someone in their industry was smart enough and connected enough to put them in an OFFENSIVE rather than a DEFENSIVE light. The worst thing they have to deal with at this point is the air pollution issue. But they have won over their opponents on this matter too in just about every area but California. I've been keeping an eye on them for 2 years now. I'm interested in the ways they go about tackling the problem. The first thing they did was produce their own independent studies.
  22. Quitting

I smoked between two and three packs a day from 1984 till 2001. My dad died of cancer in 2000 so I set a goal to quit smoking the next year on his birthday. I told everyone I know (and it was a lot because I owned the dry clean route at that time) that I was going to quit smoking on July 5, 2001. I started telling people this around November of 2000. If I had failed, I would have looked like a moron. Further I prayed about it. The same way I did about losing weight. I told God I was powerless against it and it would take his power to remove the urge. I trusted him and didn't even try. On the fourth of July 2001 I smoked a carton of cigarettes. I put out the last one about 2 minutes before midnight. I haven't smoked one since. Hope that helps.
  23. How much liability insurance do you carry?

We just got asked for the same thing. From, of all people, a PM (national) with a reputation for being a scumbag with lowballing, no loyalty and sloooow pay. I asked them if they were out of their mind and told faxed them a "pending" poi affective upon a fully executed contract. Truthfully, I don't want their business. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
