  1. The below is a quote from a post by Alan that truly needs to be given some serious discussions.

And the word Low balling is used so often and out of context, that we need to come up with a new word.

You guys and gals need to be at the forefront of this teminology "low baller" and get a word or way of describing someone that cuts prices or bids so low there might be very little profit in it.

    Words like:

    Cheaper sales

    price cutter

    low baller

    uninsured/unlicensed

    fly by night

    week-end warrior

    part timer

Those are just a few words that truthfully don't work, to improve the industry as a whole I encourge all of you to brainstorm on a way to describe what all of us at one time or another have dealt with, someone or some company cutting our prices so low we cannot compete against them.

Ok folks start your brains and remember when you list a word or sentence explain the reason you feel it should become the new industry standard to describe those people.

  2. Shame on AC for SINNING, you must go back to this lady and repent.

I have only done a couple homes as I was geared towards industrial/commercial business.

    How I did things:

Go see what they want, measure if need be.

Write bid at home and fax/mail to them.

Follow up one week, then second week if nothing happened first time.

    Follow up month later.

    END of follow ups.

If they wanted me by that time they would have called, many did call month later as large corporates take time to get ok from parent company.

KFC too close to 9 month from bid to contract.

Other major accounts had authority to pay each vendor and were faster in awarding contracts.

If I were doing home owners I would make my bid with a line at bottom saying bid good for 30,45 or 60 only. That covers your prices so if they are shopping and you get called back in a few month you can adjust prices.

Remember once you lower a bid price you not only lowered yourself but the whole industry standard. I had a policy of NEVER LOWERING BID PRICE.

  3. This from a Kalifornian? Bet you aren't too popular in your neck of the woods.

It is not me that is not popular it is a couple of lady politicians. Most of my neighbors are on the same side of the 2nd amendment as I am. The good law abiding side.

And I will not willingly give up my toys, period.

California and New York have to worst (sic) elected officials on record for being anti-gun.

Don't want to start a thread on 2nd amendment/guns as we all know it is hashed out weekly in state capitols.

Besides it takes this thread more away from what it started out to be.

  4. ----------

To my buddy Jon Fife, that farmer who keeps his farm while tract homes, malls and businesses are built around his farm just may be to old to sell and go buy another farm and start all over again. Proding you to consider that side of it here so I shall expect a reply:)

MUD HUT, hey guys I ain't pressure washing anymore, can't afford the mud to built the hut! in fact even if I could I would see stars every evening as I would not be able to add a roof at the same time.

    --------------

1st amendment, 2nd amendment, all of them are being changed or removed and our freedoms slowly taken from us. No longer can reporters be allowed to have confidential sources. Soon law abiding citizens will not be allowed to buy ammo, or guns for that matter and once that happens turn the clock back a century and half.

    ---------------

Talk about farmers, here in So. CA it used to be the 2nd largest dairy producing farming in the country, over the last 5 years the cities pushed the dairy farmers out, tract homes starting being built, people complained about the smell etc. No one told those people to buy THAT HOUSE, you could see and hear the cows and smell the air so they had no right to complain then go to court as a class action lawsuit to force them out. Most moved North to Bakerfield and now that city is saying NO MORE DAIRY FARMS. Watch your milk, ice cream, cheese and other dairy products prices go UP.

    ----------------

Would I move to another country, maybe, Remy and I have looked into both Mexico and Canada and who knows we just might chose one to retire to.

  5. Agreed Mike, and Jon Fife is a friend so he knows I would not attack him and I hope no one else does either.

It is ok to state an opinion even if it goes against what others have said but let's keep the personal stuff out of things, not only in this thread but on the board.

Remember this board is not like any other and we plan to keep it that way.

Fun, clean, good post, good replies, fun clean jokes and more but no personal attacks.

  6. No Beth I am not doing that, no need to, if others don't want to post it ends.

Mike W. what is Fred Meyers? don't have any stores by the name out here but I assume it is like Target and Kmart?

Oh wait don't answer as that might keep this going. LOL

Beth I have said what my feelings are about wallyworld so won't repeat it again.

    BETH again, which Jon F?

    Jon F as in Fleischer?

    OR

    Jon F as in Fife?

    OR

    Both of us?

  7. Very interesting post, I have known Wal-Mart tells its suppliers how much they will pay for an item, it is no secret that they also harm people by they way of doing business.

I did not know Levi went that route and is not selling in WM, I do know that since they went totally overseas their product quality has sunk way down. I have always bought and worn only Levi jeans but the last few pairs have been totally crap, I took them back and replaced them with more carp. I sent a letter to the CEO of Levi explaining why I will probably not buy from them anymore due to the cheap quality etc. They offered me free jeans, I said NO THANK YOU but when you can offer the quality you used to make I will by again.

I have not heard back and that speaks loud to me admitting they know I am right.

Jon Fife is intitled to his opinion and I have no problem with that but to back the one company of all in the USA that cares little for it's employee's and vendors I do have a problem with.

Go bid them and watch them lie to your face that they pay $125 a month for twice a month or weekly cleaning of the whole front of the store, not just the entrance but the WHOLE STORE. I asked the manager to show me the invoice as there is no way anyone would work that cheap unless they need a writeoff. He refused, I walked away.

I still don't and won't support Wal-Mart, the most unfair company in the USA and other countries.

  8. I won't get into a long list of things here as to why that law is wrong but I will say this, if it is Wal-Mart screw them.

The do not create jobs, they put others out of businessf and jobs that paid a living wage.

I have seen it time and time here in CA. they start a store, buy up all the local drug stores and other neighborhood markets and pesto they have a ready made pharmacy and grocery store.

Pity the poor people that lost their jobs as Wal-Mart has a policy of NOT HIRING those that worked for businesses they put out of business.

That and the cheapness of what they sell from China and other non child labor law and forced labor countries is enough. I do not support Wal-Mart or Sam's Club or any business they own and they do own other businesses under other names.

They own a trucking company, supply company and more.

As for taking private land for improvement, well what Scott (racechaser) said is very true and his point is to be taken seriously.

I know your all saying it will never happen but it does happen and when your turn comes just remember what he said in his post.

NIMBY (not in my backyard) becomes NMBYAM. (not my back yard anymore)

Hey can I shot the Sheriff claiming self defense, defending my property from some big corporate trying to steal it? would that hold up in court, hmm, is the Judge on the payroll of BIG BUSINESS too!

YES just like the politicians they are all paid under the table, a few on top of the table.

  9. Only thing I have is a 12 inch BOOM BOX in my Pick-up truck with dual amplifiers with super after market speakers.

Now I can HEAR and blast the hell out of the kids when they drive up next to me with their boom box blasting I just turn mine on and BLAST the punks away. LOL

  10. I sent that company a request to reserve a room for their Grand Opening.

As for my rights to keep and bare arms, I only hope I never have to bare them to those that want to take them away.

If you don't think it can happen the United Nations wants just that now, a resolution to remove all guns from private citizens in the USA.

Only criminals are not considered private citizens since they can always get guns.

Hmm, where did I put me Thompson sub-machine gun????

  11. When I used to bid I always without fail attached a copy of cert. of insurance and business lic.

Even if it was a one time job which I seldom would bid for. I found when dealing with the type of accounts I had if you offer that with your bid it shows your more professional then your compeitors.

Most wait till asked before offering so you just beat them to it.

If I am not mistaken almost all types of government jobs require Workers' Comp.

  12. Man you Southerner's and Easterner's are just all up in the hils when it comes to truth in lying.

What Beth witnesses was a clan of Gypies that are based in TN and a couple other states, almost all are related and come spring/summer they hit the road to points, North, South, East and WEST.

Yes they hit the Western States hardest and almost always start jobs then disappear half way through them. They get paid by asking for half up front and the other half in when the job is half done regardless of what the job is.

    Once paid PESTO their gone.

The Feds have been onto them for years but seldom does anyone ever call them when they hit an area.

Had Beth called they would have been swarming her neighborhood arresting them.

First sign was TN license plate, second no bus. license or insurance.

    7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

    8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

    10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

    11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. :)

    12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.

    13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.

    14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

    15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list.

AND NOW U R LAUGHING at YOURSELF?
