I get at least 6 hours each week night. When I get more than that though I feel even more tired the next day. I guess my body only needs 6 hours of sleep a night.

I found a local graphic designer to do my brochure so that it would look more professional than something I would come up with.
I felt that it was done at a fair price and it looks great!! I would refer her to anyone so if anybody is looking to get one done let me know and I can give your her information. (she also does business cards but I already have some)

This was my first year in the biz and I think I did pretty well. I started slow but things picked up during the end of the season. I am hoping to really take off next year. I formed a good customer base in a bad economic year so I figure it can only get better from here.

Ken, that is an awesome idea with the "Pressure Points." I am going to look into starting that with my business. Thanks for the advice. This forum is great.

Do you have any suggestions as to how you market your floor care business to schools, food chain stores, restaurants, medium-size building with lobbies and breakrooms, furniture stores, etc.....I figure if you can get your foot in the door with one service--it would open up opportunities to offer your other services as well.
I would create a website and update your search engine optimization. Search this forum on how to do the SEO, it helps out a lot!

Did they go into it thinking "they knew or would learn how to do the work, and that all they had to do was the job and they would be succesfullOR,
Did they go into it thinking "that they wanted to own a business", AND, that they would eat sleep and breath it until their business was succesfull.
Those are two complete different outlooks. I agree that if you build it, they will come. But if you built it, you better be like the town crier, and let EVERYONE know..They will only come if they know it's there.
Sell the job, get the job done in the amount of time slotted, collect the money and the taxes, pay everyone for everything at a profit, (includeing your wages), submit your taxes. NOW, you are starting a business.
Now, repeat again and again and again............
If it was easy, everyone would do it and it then would no longer be as rewarding.
I totally agree that you need to eat, sleep and breath your business to be successful. I am in my first year and things are actually going better than expected so far. I have ran into little trouble (mostly b/c of TGS) and I am constantly thinking of ways to improve.

What is the biggest challenge to your business right now?
Getting my name out there and dealing with the bad weather.
What can you do or did you do to overcome that challenge?
To get my name out there I created a website. TGS really helped me with this because not only was I able to create the website with sufficient information but I also learned how search engine optimization was really a necessity for people to find my website on the web. Most of my customers now come from my website.
As far as the weather goes, I cannot control that so I do my best to schedule my customers around the bad weather. The days it is raining I make sure that I am caught up on everything else so that when the weather is nice I can go out right away and do the jobs.
Was your effort successful and why or why not?
Yes, I have been successful because my website has pulled in a good amount of jobs. Staying connected with my customers lets them know that I have not forgotten them and I get to them asap, weather permitting.
If the challenge is beyond your control what are you doing to try to manage your business in spite of it?
Since the weather has been so bad when I have the time off I make sure that all of my chemicals are caught up and my paperwork is finished. I make sure that I am set to go the moment a customer contacts me for an estimate.
Where is your business right now compared to where you thought it might be at the beginning of the year?
My business is actually a little ahead of schedule from when I started out. This is my first year and I have already done more jobs than I thought when I originally started. TGS has also helped me a lot out in figuring a good house wash. I feel as though I have been in the business longer than I actually have because of being on TGS a lot.
Where do you see your business in the next 12 months based upon your specific area?
I see my business expanding to almost double by this time next year. I am hoping to have more work that I can put up with. My goal is always to do my best and being the best pressure washing company in my area is what I have in mind.

I am graduating college in May and I already have a full time job. I work a 6 - 2 job and when I get home I have nothing really to do. Soo why not go out and make some money! I have been researching and preparing for the spring since December and I already have jobs lined up. Can't wait to get out there

Thanks for all the replies! My next question is should I start out with building my own website like Go Daddy website tonight, or should I hire somebody to build it for me? I have checked around about having somebody build me one and the prices have ranged from about $300-$2000.
I have done some reading on the subject of building a website, and how to get search engines to recognize it. Being I am only a part-timer, I am really thinking of trying to build my own for now. Also be advised that when I search for contractors in my area, there is only a couple of contractors with websites, and both of them are 1 hr away.
What is everyones thoughts on building your own site?
Go to 1and1.com. They supply a Home Package that is going for $2.49 a month for the next six months. They also have this website builder program that helps you build a decent looking website with nice templates and it even helps out with the SEO. I would suggest checking it out. It is way cheaper than hiring someone.

Hey Everyone, My name is Matt and I am starting Matt's Pristine Pressure Washing in the spring. I hope to build my knowledge through this site. Glad someone referred me, I have learned a lot already.

That is exactly what I am doing. I hold a full time job but I get done at 2. So I figured why work for someone else making terrible part time money. This is my first year and I am just putting out flyers and getting the word our best I can. Have you had any success yet??
How many partime or full time are shutting down for winter?

Pristine Pressure Washing has pretty much shut down operations as of right now. The tempuratures are staying under 50 so its hard to get any work done when its that cold.
