This is amazing. Like a herd of sheep running from the big bad wolf. Only this wolf is teaching you how to hunt at the same time!

I love harry potter. I play a lot of mmorpg's that emulate that genre. The geeky side of me! I have had customers come out and say the roof cleaning method we use is magical! Cleanimous MAximous Gloecopsia!

Let them advertise what they want. The consumer will figuire out what is better for their roof. That is the beauty of our market imo. I recently was thrown a job from Apple Roof Cleaning. He just didnt have the time to mess with this lady. She was an internet educated roof cleaning shopper. Asking me questions about hydroxide based chems rac blah blah.... It is so easy selling roofs against these operations I cant even tell you. I love it when they spout one of those acronyms. Like taking candy from a baby. Glad they are around, ammunition for my gun.

plainpainter knows his shat. Savogran is the bomb diggity. If you cant get that look for tsp that is "average elemental phosporous content 7.3% in the form of phosphates".

I hope to own a rig like that someday. That is just badass brother! Would you consider a 5.5 gpm machine with a dedicated chem pump at 4gpm 80psi "softwashing"? I use 2510 to 2520 on my houses after I apply my mix. That cant be much more than 700 or 800 psi (2520)? I sometimes work with a buddy and he has a 17 gpm 400ish psi pump. The gpm is unreal but he applies chem with a flojet and rinses with the big pump. Seems like less labor about the same time to complete. Great idea with the Y! My little 5.5 was starved today on two houses. I can see the hose collapsing and my k7 was screaming in pain when I let off the trigger:( I would say 2-3 outta every 10 houses water is too low here in tampa.

I used to be a nice guy, but...
Thomas replied to One Tough Pressure's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Dont get me wrong, I'm not a jerk to them. I just cant clean roofs and have folks below that are not with me. One drop ...ya never know could blind someone or like I think it was rod saying you could set off someones ahsma. This morning I did a roof and the guy said his coy fish pond was worth 6 to 7k! I double duct taped and bagged the downspout that shoot right into a collection of rocks that cascade under a deck to the pond. About 4pm a shower came in(I live a few miles close) and I rushed back over to find him about to use a rerout tube. I had my tube with me. Not a drop in the bags :) I guess the shower passed?? I will sleep well tonight with the reroute tube in place I guess. But I wasn't going to rerout it. I think the bags are better but he is the bossman and thats what he wanted. We rerouted into a huge metal trough. This was a tough roof. I couldn't rerout and rinse because the area to reroute would have leached into or close to the pond. I think I made the correct choice. My juice was like glue....no rain! -

Thats a bummer. Sometimes I kind of prefer they are not home on roofs because of how fast we are. They get into the I wish I could make xx in that mcuh time. Scheduling other work like tile work at the same time is wrong and would have set me off also. Good luck -
I am close to being a downstreamer. Nozzle theory?
Thomas replied to Keth's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I have a 5.5 gpm machine. 2520 is the best I can do without drawing..and if all the rings etc are just right it will draw. Why do you want to run chem through your hose reel? You will lose draw and corrode the shieeet out of your reel. -
Kind of out of the area..not too far, but my pick would have to be kiawa island. I was a golf pro for 9 years and played many tournaments as a junior in the carolinas. Nothing can hold a candle to kiawa island. If you can make it down that far do it.

I get the linear of the house. Look at pitch, shingle/tile, color, gutters, plants, debris on roof, how high etc....I then have set prices per foot. Doghouses and second tiers are added on to base. I have used by the square on the roof and this is easier to explain and I can hit how much chem on the head with it, so it works for me. How do you do your roofs? People like to see me walk around with the wheel I feel.
-
Buy a wheel or learn how to figure square foot of roofs. I use a wheel. If you don't, you will be robbing yourself and other roof cleaners until you get teh hang of it. go to ARMA and read up on the correct chems to use. You could then come back here and everything you need to know is in the archives. Plus, some of the best in the biz hang out here and are not afraid to help if you research first. And always, always remember...homeowners dont like to or cant get on the slippery wet moldy slick roof and risk their lives. Some of us do just that everyday, risk our lives.

Concrete Surface Cleaning Question
Thomas replied to Buckeye's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I do not do a lot of flat work. I have a buddy that does and he does exactly what Paul said. He will clean with the a hot no brainer real good and then he rinses with detergents and brightners like Paul said the next month he services the acct. -
We just did a roof where someone did a demo over the garage. I guess he hit his gun and the chem passed over the garage. It took the paint off of the garage, now the guy has to repaint it. I have never messed up a garage door but lemme tell you I am tip toe'ng around them now. This was a standerd metal door. It was painted a lavender color. Just giving you a heads up:) guy lives in my hood and I pass by it everyday and it looks like crap.

We do not downstream. Like I said anyone can nuke an exterior with strong chem, rinse it and be out in a flash. I can tell with out any doubt (if the house has debris stuck on it, not just mold) if it has been just chem washed. Try using a 2510 tip or xx12...not high pressure at all, but enough to break wasps etc loose. I have seen many a exterior pissed down with strong chems after a roof wash(usually sold after the roof is done and they want to get in the truck). The quality of rinsing with a 2510 or 12 is obvious.
-
If everything is off...dishwasher, laundry etc, I have heard it is 7.3gpm. Around here most are good but my 5.5 machine has pulled the water line togethor before. I think you need a little pressure with mild chem. Mud gobbers and spider webs..all that crap needs some pressure but a good gpm to wash it off. I can easily spot a house that has been pissed down with 50/50 chlorine and hose. You cant get all the sticky bug stuff off and send half of the insect population around your home on a death stampede up the exterior to excape from the strong chloro. Only to die on the wall and create an even uglier mess. Look on the wood board that overhangs the fascia....how can you clean up in there well when you have strong love dripping all over you?? You need to hit with the pressure washer imo

I think you took what I said a little further than it meant to be. If not liking illegal aliens in particular illegal mexicans...is racist, well then call me a racist. I guess the better phrase would be the "racially profiled" alien. lol

How long till the US gets into the fray....
Thomas replied to Beth n Rod's question in The Club House
I would hope that we take this as a full scale attack on our allie. Like the boss said any nation that sponsers or harbors terrorist is our enemy and will be attacked. That is why I voted for him and I expect nothing less than full scale war against iran before they are nuclear. Even the arabs know israel is not out to gain more land or control. Leave them alone and they will leave you alone. These people are racists and are killing out of hate. This is a war against radical islamic fundamentalists....no matter what border they call home. You can try diplomacy until you are blue in the face...the fact of the matter is violence is what these people understand. And they hate you and everything we stand for.... I cant believe i jumped into a political thread on the internet. -
We should assume they are all illegal. We have been giving them the benifit of doubt and look at where we are now. I have and will call ins on them. Passive its ok attitude has killed us...like aquabob said..it is easy to spot them. At least here in tampa..they either dont speak any english or you can find twelve of em packed into a f250 that we as tax payers prolly paid for. Its time for each american to do there duty and not hire these bastards. Unfortunatly the same schmuck shopping at walmart looking for something for nothing is the same ignorant hillbilly driving a 10 yr old cavelier with 400pounds of trash in it hiring them. lol j/k

Those people that are looking for cheap service are not my targeted audiance. Remember, I said people like ME. As far as walmart... I and I stress the word I...would go to comp usa for a new computer part or mattres firm for a new bed. Thats why I shoot for clientel like ME. Look at the people that shop at walmart...do you think they would hire a pro pw'r or roof cleaning co? or shop the advertisments for the lowest price? Hot shot you hit the nail dead on teh head when you explained how you rarely mention price. When I get someone shopping and saying "xyz will do it for 100" I tell them to hire them! If the want the best service..hire me! I dont want to wash your house next year for 100. Stupid is stupid does.....survival of the fittest!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 ok, that was a little harsh. I havent been lowballed lately at all..maybe the last lean spell killed all the bubbas'? p.s. If I were to be lowballed by an illegal alien...I would waite till he sets up on the job and call the authorities. Thats just the way I am....I think we should jail all illegals and make them build a huge f'n wall between U.S and mexico on a chain gang. They are sucking you and I clean!!!!

In a perfect world having the government regulate/fine or make it cost more for licenses etc...would be great. The cutthroats are not following the rules now, so why make more? More expense for the guy following the rules. Lets face it...pw'ng, roof cleaning is full of ignorant uneducated "born again " criminals. You just have to be better than them!! I mean how hard will it be to outwork or outsmart one of the above mentioned retards? It seems to me.....it just takes time to fill your client list up full with people like ME. Once you do....the bubbas' just fight for the crumbs like they have been there whole life. Oh and on a sidenote.....the less the government is in/looking at your pocket the better you are imo. WE can make the market better with great disscussions lie this one..on our own.

I never rely, think about or forcast using on how much per hour. That would imply the better I get and my helpers, the less we make. Yesterday I did a very high slick galvanized steel roof in an hour and half for 599. Some just you kill it... some they kill you. I am speaking in general.. That is like you are settling with 150 p/hour...when you could have made 200. I consider doing a job for 300 less than what it would have gone for "killing my pocket" no matter what I goss. I understand you are from another area and prices are not comperable. I am debating using closing rate and or by the hour to justify undercutting a job to secure the sale. I am not calling you a undecutter. This is a great discussion. As long as there are folks out there "competent well equiped" washers settling for a price rather than pushing the ceiling....the less money we all make this year and for the most part next year. Tree trimmers in my area get 300 p/hour. So, does that mean if you can turn a great profit at 200 you should charge that? Sure you will be busier than a wet hornet, but you are raping the market and killing your pocket!
