  1. Ready to Seal

    finished
  2. User Friendly Sealer

I had the same response from him as well. He also gave some advice as far as anticiapted maintenance etc...I only hope that the product is as friendly to me as they have been so far. He had sent sampels as well to me... Looks like the weather shoudl cooperate so I can get at least some of the decking done tomorrow. I'm basically doing the decking and top rail first since they woudl gray first due to exposure and do the veriticals ASAP after that. Some initial setup (marking off posts and using shields to make sure rest of rails don't get any stain on them) to make sure no lapping occurs doing it this way but gotta do what I gotta do when I can do it. unfortunately I can't take a day off right now to just do the whole thing
  3. User Friendly Sealer

I'm going to be using the semi trans on some PTW as well. Hopefully at least get some of it done this week if the weather holds up. I'll post pics on here for your reference after I'm done
  4. Ready to Seal

ok, because if I have to redo the cleaning again I might just build a new one!!! Of course should be much easier this time.
  5. Ready to Seal

one other thing...if the weather doesn't cooperate how long before I would have to reclean before sealing?
  6. Ready to Seal

Yeah, the more and more I have been thinking the more I have been leanign that way. Escpecially after cleaning I used more than I was expecting The PTW is about 5 years old and besides orignal Thompsons, nothing had been done Thanks for all of the help
  7. Ready to Seal

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping and waiting for. I can get the 2 days and nights it seems, just the 3rd day is rain. now if I could tent my deck on that 3rd day then apply the stain I'd be set!!!!
  8. Ready to Seal

2 gallons enough you think...might just get 3 to be safe and maintenance, if and when needed
  9. Ready to Seal

Gotcha, makes sense. It might not matter since the 2 week forecast has dry 2 days, rain, dry 2 days and rain!!!! Might never get done anyway
  10. Ready to Seal

Thanks for the information. I chose AC, one of the main rasons, was ease of application. Of course I knew the potential for lapping though. You say to do the railing and verticals first. I was hoping to be able to get the decking and stairs done first so I could start getting stuff back up on the deck and then move on to the railings and such when I was able to over the course of a few days. while I know this isn't "ideal" are there any issues with this approach?
  11. Ready to Seal

AC Semi Trans and on PTW
  12. AC Cedar on PTW

Does anyone have any pictures of the AC Cedar Semi trans on PTW? My deck is about 5 years old and will be cleaned and brightened before application. they are sending some samples but thought I'd check to see if there were any pics out there. Searched but everything I seem to find is on Cedar not PTW
  13. Redoing Deck

I am starting the process of redoing a PTW deck that was built about 5 years ago and Thompson's was put on the deck. The only part of the deck with any seal on it is under some items. I have some general questions for the most part: I will be using StainSolver (Sod Percarb)to clean the deck (have tested a small area while doing something else and cleans deck well) Do I need to use a brightener after using this on the whole deck and if so, any recommendations? Anything else after using the brightener or just let dry for a few days before sealing? My other question is in regards to the seal. I have been leaning toward the TWP 500 series, possibly the Light Cedar 515, as I am looking for something to stay more toward the actual wood color and not something too dramatic or dark. With that I have 2 questions: 1) Experience with TWP 515 on PTW 2) Can this only be ordered online or do they sell it anywhere in MD Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. I have so much information in my head from researching the past few weeks I need to start making some decisions!!!!
  14. Redoing Deck

Thanks a lot for the follow up. I was finally able to find some more information as to some additives to the RAD. Between the 2 which is preffered? RS or AC? Ease of use or about the same. I know it's all personal opinion really but I haven't really seen too much downside to these 2 products. As for the TWP 500 series I was going to go with I have seen some conflicting information in regards to quality and performance. One last thing, when using a truck brush, is there anything I need to look for as in composition? I have found 2 at Ace: Rubbermaid® Roughneck® Vehicle Brush (X257-06) & Victor® Body Suds & Car Wash Brush (22-5-05607-8)...I have seen some on here and other sites that have basically "melted"
  15. Redoing Deck

I have read and read and read about using Oxalic, Citralic or Citric acid to neuatralize the percarb I am using to clean my deck. I am very interested in the Citric acid as I saw RPetry say 6 oz (3/4 cup) to one gallon of water. A couple questions: 1. Where to get citric acid at reasonable pricing. 2. Coverage for this mixture? My deck is roughly 18' x 14' with 3 sided railing with spindles and 10 steps for some information in regards to what may be needed. I saw at the Chem store a 2 lb package for just over $7.00...woudl this suffice? I saw you had said ACR had it but cannot find ACR anywhere. Saw it in another thread but search didn't bring up anything. Thanks for any help
  16. Redoing Deck

OK, that's what I had seen for the most part on most forums etc. Just wanted some clarification. What exactly is the difference between the cleaner I have and what you are recommending? They both can be used on concrete and such per the websites. The only difference I seeis the added brightener in the package which can be bought seperately?
  17. Redoing Deck

As for stain, I'm still open to suggestions: I have seen TWP, AC & ReadySeal as the most supported products. Which would be best for application and maintenance?
  18. Redoing Deck

    Not a problem at all...
