  1. This deck was a deck that i refinished years ago and maintained every 2 yrs. Then i guess walking through the Depot seeing Behr stains giving un godly warranties they thought to give it a try. Well they were thinking how to get longer than 2 yrs on a semi stain by tying this Behr acrylic crap. The pics you see is how the deck looked like when I did it 3-4 yrs ago and the next pic is the BEhr after 1 yr. This pine decking is very ugly and didn't really brighten up like i want to but I think it will dry up good and i'll have to sand some of that crap i couldn't strip off. I think I got off 90% The stripper is boosted by the info I found here on TGS so thanks TGS for having all the great wood info! I'll be staining on Fri ..
  2. Thanks Rick this was a major PITA!! I hope this is the hardest deck strip I have this year!
  3. Ok Well here is what the finished looks like...
  4. Rod, So is the polypropylene glycol " pink anti freeze" not environmentally safe? I found that tip here on TGS and worked great! I understand there are specifically made boosters for strippers but I was short on time not able to order some. How about adding Butyl to strippers?
  5. It didn't dawn on me till i posted it I realized he would know what it is ..Sorry Matt i know you know your stuff. I used the pink anti freeze and worked wonders on the verticals and I got off 90% or so some light sanding should help. The propylene glycol helped quite a bit next time i'll try adding some Butyl also heard how that kicks it up a notch. Yeah I would like to hear Mr. Foley speak I would also learn a thing or 2 from Jimbo!
  6. He's talking about Sodium Hydroxide beads I use them also for stripping and I also buy Oxalic by bulk from the same chem company along with 12 %. Rick I add some anti freeze on that I posted yesterday that boosted my stripper great.
  7. Cool good luck let us know how it turns out also the sample of DRP..
  8. Well since you in Ga. You could try that Rip it from Sun Bright don't forget you need to brighten after you strip it. Is that where you getting your stain from?
  9. Click on the settings on the top right corner by log out and look for edit signature on left of the page. That is a mess of a deck....
  10. I had to give her a bath to clean her up she's ok now free of crap.... I was too lazy to hook up my other 50' hose....
  11. Thanks Jason! It's not going to be as dark as the 1st pic as that was stained a couple times when i took that pic. The strip wasn't perfect and i'll have to sand some areas. That stuff was like nasty string cheese for the most part stuck allover my pressure washer when i dried.
  12. I would use it again for sure the marine anti freeze is only $5/gal. its better than the $15 for the reg antifreeze. - - - Updated - - - I would use it again for sure the marine anti freeze is only $5/gal. its better than the $15 for the reg antifreeze.
  13. Yeah me too since it's going to be maby 70 Fri but sunny n cool in the mornings. This was a challenging strip for sure going with only Cedar Dark no Gold and I might use some AC i have on hand for the swings if they match up good with the Cedar Dark I have the Amber and Cedar i'm thinking Amber.

  16. Only in Texas!!!!

    Now that's funny....
  17. Here is a small fence I finished up on Fri that was stripped brightened and stained with Gray Away Gold Blend. It was nice job that only took 12 gallons for a 175 sqft /gallon.
  18. Here is a pretty big deck and rail i worked on last week well there were 2 exactly the same. It's great that I can work year round here in Texas! I love our weather here in Houston for wood restoration! I cleaned then p/washed and brightened then stained with Gray Away Gold Blend mix. I used a whole 3 gallons give or take and I love the dramatic difference when wood is cleaned and stained
  19. Yeah I've seen that color looks nice it's a pretty light color very natural. Yes I've seen Drew Carey Big Deck that was pretty funny!
  20. Your favorite Industry bulletin boards and why?

The TGS is the best place for wood restoration anywhere! The deckguide used to be 2nd for info but the first wood board I found back then. Then i almost got myself banned talking trash about RS hahaha. I thought Reed was a little pissed I was talking bad about the site sponser. I like all the boards they all have different vibes and we have all been on the same boards in the past. Now it's a spread out over 3 or 4 BBS's and all the boards have great knowledge on all of them. Thanks again Beth and Rod for making the TGS available for all of us to share and learn what we know for what we do..:cool-new:
  21. Thanks Danny! What are you going to stain it with?
  22. This one is a 4' and this tip for staining is a tee-jet 6502 and I use tee jet 6505 for cleaning. I get all these parts from Texas Wood Products when I order stain. You can find them also at Dultmeier Sales | 2013 Industrial Equipment & Supplies Catalog You can check out a few different catalogs for equipment
