What would you suggest?
seymore replied to Jason Reider's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
This is what I use 1.8gpm and 60 psi and works great for staining and cleaning....You could use a bigger pump/hose for cleaning but sometimes I like not having all the over spray. -

What will happen if I apply twp too thick, how will it fail?
seymore replied to Chadclement1's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
TWP is a non drying oil so it's probably going to rub off and have shiny spots if over applied. What series are you using? -

A few questions about specializing in wood restoration
seymore replied to Jason Reider's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I'll copy my answer to your question here also to add to TGS I'll offer reds, golds, brown and gray/taupe. I think out of those colors the customer has a wide enough selection to make their decision. If you offer to many colors they will never be able to make up their mind. Now depending on cedar or pine and the age of the wood final color tones vary. So i'll use pics of their projects that are as close to the same age of their wood as possible. Well I have some customers I've been staining their deck for the last 14 yrs every 2 years. I lost some customers due to them selling the house and some customers still use us after buying the house from my customers. Now I also have customers maintaining their own deck once I stain it the first time usually a bad strip. They just buy the stain from me every few yrs like clock work. Some customers still buying stain from us for the last 20 yrs. I have some customers wait 4 or 5 yrs to call me back cause they think the deck stain last forever. When I get to deck I have to almost strip it completely because they wait so long before re staining. Pine Decks 1-1/2 - 2 yrs. New wood closer to 1-1/2 yrs then every 2 yrs after the second staining. Most homeowners don't want to let the wood age like it should so it's hard to get the oil to soak in like it should. Arbors,Cedar Fences it's 3 - 4 yrs again same like the pine the wood always gets better over time the more you maintain it the better it gets. Gazebos the ceiling last forever as it never sees the sun so you usually have to re stain the post ,decking and railing 2-3 yrs. That's all I have to say about that... If you have more questions feel free to ask or call anytime... -

to clean new deck
seymore replied to mordy's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Well cleaning will allow the stain to soak in better with cleaning. Deck should go thru some we/dry cycles to cure prior to cleaning and sealing. I clean all new decks with a light bleach water, soap then rinsed and then brightened once it's rinsed real good. -
Merry Christmas Guy and everyone on TGS!

Small 9' Cedar Fence
seymore replied to seymore's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Yeah Rick it's been one of those years for fences and I'm still picking up more jobs. I have 1300 Lft to go look at all new and guy wants me to match up to some Wood Defender crap. It's all jobs from the fence builder who doesn't want to start staining with his high dollar trailer set up from Wood Defender. I think he makes more $$ building fences for $9/lft for 6' tall. I had the best 1 QTR ever this year going thru 30 K of stain applicating not including retail and what I sell to contractors. So that was staining a few 1000's of feet of fence to start out the year by myself most of the time. Oh since you talking about cattle ranching I did one of those too using 70 gallons on this corral fence..You know I'm in the country when I see scorpions trying to find shade! -
Garage Door Issue
seymore replied to ScottsDecks's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
That may be the only hope for that T1-11 to hide the flaws cause the oil will never stick in that area. That's gonna bite trying to strip fresh stain but that may be the only answer. I've seen some nice Minwax stains very nice colors. Scott these are the doors I was thinking it was T1-11 but it's some knotty pine and all new. -
What are you trying to clean concrete, houses, roofs, wood? I would price it out new for exactly what you want and the see what you can find on Ebay already built and close to you. For 10 K you could buy lots of equipment....

Sanding after Stripper
seymore replied to Chadclement1's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Nice house not the style i remembered in La. but you have to love Cypress! I also agree a combo of stripper/brushing will make you fuzzy like a peach! So you are wanting to use TWP again same color? If using TWP again I would never strip it like James said bleached and rinse or add some stripper to the bleach mixture to remove a little more color. It's not as harsh as stripper alone then brightened after rinsed real good. Also if you not wanting the color so dark try re-staining with a lighter color over that Dark Oak . -
Another Nasty Fence RestorationW/ Gray Away Special Blend
seymore posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Well it's been warm here in Texas and I've been swamped with fences to clean and stain. So this was a project I worked on this week. The fence was cleaned,P/washed and brightened then stained with Gray Away Special Blend. It's been a busy Winter for me going thru 120 gallons of week selling some stain and spraying some. -
I would think the max would be a 4.0 GPM pump but someone that knows more about pumps will chime in. I've use this company before and they had great prices.... Pumps - Bolt On and Go : AR Pumps : Pressure Washer Pumps : Water Cannon
-
I would say yes. If the size of your engine will allow you to upgrade your pump?
-
If you log out and log in again you should be ok on the signature. Well I'm not a pressure washer I'm in wood restoration but from what I've read most guys are using 8gpm and up pumps also with heat. There are roof pump setups that are strictly for cleaning roofs IE: Fatboy pumps. You will want a pump flow "GPM" to do all the cleaning for you when it comes to concrete cleaning not so much the PSI. You also want really good chemicals for whatever surface you are trying to clean.
