  1. Ok Doug well you found the right place for your wood restoration questions here on TGS. I've never used TWP but the Baker's Gray Away I use is a similar product to TWP 200 series and looks great on older wood. I have no experience with TWP 100 or 1500 but TWP does use a very high quality oil. You do want to use an good oil base stain to add some life to that older deck.Darker stains will help with better protection from the sun's UV rays. How bad is the deck or do you have a pic? Is there an old stain on the deck? I would suggest getting some samples and see how you like the stain.

  4. Ready SealĀ® Wood Stains :: Ready SealĀ® 5-Gallon - Deck Stain | Wood Stain | Outdoor Wood & Fence Stain | Ready Seal Pecan is the color in the middle.... I get a pecan looking color when i mix gold and brown together..
  5. I would say you might let that deck cure till Spring. Its going to be hard to get any oil base stain to soak in till the deck cures. You will get better life out of the stain if you wait a few more months. I don't use AC or RS only the Gray Away but I'm sure someone will chime in on colors.

  7. Percarb over rated?

Ahh mahogany the Bentley of wood I don't see that much here in Texas cause pine decking is king! I think it's easier on the wood to clean with bleach and then add some Naoh to that solution if you need something a little stronger. If you have mildew problems there is nothing that will kill mildew like bleach!
  8. Percarb over rated?

To me his thin layer of green sounds like the ACQ treatment green. Will a pre carb not remove mildew at all not even on the surface? Pictures would be so helpful too.... You order your new I phone 5 Jim?
  9. Percarb over rated?

Never used a pre carb when a bleach/soap solution works just fine then you can brighten it and it looks as good as new! Was the deck green from mildew or green from the ACQ treatment?
  10. Trying to remove solid stain from my deck

Welcome to the TGS Pics would be very helpful..... You can wait on the neutralizing till you are finished stripping. All that stripping should make the wood pretty fuzzy. Are you planning on sanding? I don't really see a need to let the boards shrink up that might take a while. Is the deck not draining to good? Decks that don't drain usually have stains fail quickly. What semi trans stain you are planning to use?

  12. I would say use a stain that you have good access to with a good track record for reliability. You need to talk to Adam AAPaint who is also from Fla.I think he's also dealing with the rain issues with wood restoration. I would stay away from one day stains (stains you use same day you clean) I haven't heard of a good stain to use on wet wood. If the deck is old enough and gets 100% sun should be dry in 5-6 hours. If you want to be safe the moisture meter is the way to go. I'm lucky here in Texas we very seldom have a real wet season it's usually pretty dry here for the most part.
  13. Welcome to the world of wood restoration! What stain are you trying to use now?
  14. Here is small 6 yr old PT deck I maintain every 2 yrs since it was new. It was originally stained in the Gray Away Gold Blend but this time I stained it with Super Cedar Dark. The 400 sqft deck and 50 Lft. of rail took a total of 2 gallons and another happy customer. The last pic was thanks to a rain shower lasting 5 min! No harm done as you see the Gray Away starts protecting the wood right as you apply it.
  15. Thanks Jimbo! I dodged a bullet with rain ...I went ahead an blew the deck off with a blower while I was still there. What i like is the deck only took 2 gallons
  16. So will the peach fuzziess still show up with him using a semi solid? My guess would be no but I have no clue.
  17. Here is a small new ACQ deck and cedar rail even the top cap is cedar. It was cleaned with bleach and soap and brightened then it was stained with BGA Cedar Gold. The deck was only 1 month old and it was tough to get anything to soak in the decking. The homeowner didn't want to wait a few more months till the deck cured longer. They understood that it will effect the longevity of stain. P.S this was a job where they found me here on TGS Thanks Beth n Rod
  18. Need Advice

So you are not having tons of over spray? What's your sqft/ gal on avg fences or deck if you do them?
  19. Pictures always help so when your camera is juiced up you should post them. I think all contractors here will agree that a deck should be stripped if you are not using the same stain. You run the risk of the new semi trans stain not soaking in and looking uneven. I'll strip every deck I work on that I haven't stained before. I don't use AC stain but there will be some contractors that do here and they will chime in.
  20. Thanks Adam.. That's some paint he's thinking about re painting only the trim not the ceiling. I thought it would look better green with that Gold stain.
  21. Need Advice

Those set ups are like 4-5k right? I can be just as productive with my shur flo pump costing under $200 wands and hoses etc. I don't like having to dump all my stain in a big tank cause I use different colors. Also I don't like pulling trailers in Houston.
  22. Bryan, We have been using the Baker's Gray Away from Texas Wood Products in Plano. I think their contractor price is about $97/5 + shipping but you can call Mariella and talk to her and she can send you samples if you like? I've seen Wood Defender and I wasn't to impressed with the colors and I've had many contractors calling me with problems they were having with Wood Defender. There is no trick to keep the sprinklers from wearing the stain off. I have the same problem here and they have to be adjusted to minimize hitting the fence.
  23. Thanks Keenan! Well the pine decking wasn't the prettiest ACQ wood "greenish tint" so bleaching it and brightening the pine helped lighten that up. Cleaning will also help dry the wood out to try and get it to accept as much stain as possible. I like to clean all PT decking I stain but I have stained new cedar without cleaning in some cases.
