  1. Here was a deck I stripped a while back that had Flood Acrylic. I think that wet formula they had what junk. Deck was stripped brightened the stained with Gray Away Cedar Gold Blend.
  2. S/Hydroxide i get from a local chem company where i get my 12% it's pretty cheap for hydroxide and oxalic.
  3. Nope it's my own mix of Sodium hydroxide..
  4. I wouldn't touch a Behr stain if I was on fire and Behr came with a free fire extinguisher to put my fire out!
  5. Steve can you please add a signature it's forum rules. Thanks
  6. If I spray around concrete/pavers it's water then plastic then water on top of plastic to hold down it's tough working alone. I keep my thinner in a pump up sprayer it gives me more pressure to get the stain out of concrete faster or it helps on downspouts. Here is this fence right next to a driveway of pavers it was all water no plastic. That pine didn't soak up to much RS ? Is that 2 coats?
  7. Adam Do you wet down the concrete then plastic?
  8. Nice job Adam It evened out pretty good!
  9. ^^^^^ what Charlie said...
  10. That's a beautiful deck! So are you a homeowner or a contractor? signatures are required You are not wanting it as orange as it looks in those pics? Looks a little orange but might be just the camera? I don't use AC so Beth or Charlie will chime in as they use the AC all the time. I'm not sure If you can stain over that previous stain with AC or it might have to be stripped and brightened? Welcome to the TGS
  11. Well in theory glass should not let the oil penetrate into the wood unless it's some magic glass? I think It should stay out of wood and stay in masonry we have enough crappy Behr Acrylics/sillycone stains to deal with! It goes against everything I've learned about restoring wood in the last 14 yrs.All my wood I stain needs to free of all stains and sealers that is not compatible with the Gray Away I use to fully penetrate.I've stained over Ready Seal without stripping but that's about it. If decks, cedar fences, cedar houses etc.are maintained on a regular basis with a good oil base penetrating stain these structures should last forever.I've seen more UV damage than anything so you gotta have a good pigmented stain/preservative to prevent this kind of damage. We've built our business with one stain and it's worked for us for 20 yrs. saving wood and if It aint broke what is there to fix? Other than ACQ pine that takes longer to cure and is just ugly sometimes not much has changed in our business.
  12. I agree Jake 100 % !
  13. How long have you been using silica on wood ? So you are saying the silica has no effect on the sealer penetrating in the wood? How long are your decks holding up with Ready Seal? Does it effect your sqft/gal ?
  14. Sorry I would never use that stuff! SMH We have a company giving a 25 yr warranty and I was asked to stain over that on a fence after just 1 year. What happen to the 25 yrs? I turn down the job 1400 Lft of it. I'm for sure not going to warranty my stain I'm not sure what's going to soak in and how it going to hold up?
  15. How did you clean it and sealed with ? It looks like clear? I think more of a semi trans stain might have looked better on that cedar to keep it from turning grey again in a year. Also a darker stain would do a better job to hide those pot marks to look more even.
  16. Need Advice

Shur Flo 1.8GPM 60 PSI is the way to go for chems and staining. I have a box set now for my pumps i'll find a pic later,

  18. Marty Please add a signature in your settings it's forum rules now. Thanks
  19. Sweet... When was the last time you stained it? That RS right?
  20. Are those samples 1 coat or 2 ? Looks like that deck is going to soak up stain like a sponge! You could also use a stiff deck brush on the deck to see if you can get the fuzzies off If you not wanting to sand?
  21. Chris,You might want to get all the stain samples you like make a sample board and let them cure to the final color and choose what you like. I'm thinking mahogany is no different than all other hardwoods and need to cure to accept the stain. So leave enjoy that new deck look for a while before cleaning and staining.
  22. Not a problem ....How big is the deck? You have any pics? Mahogany is some beautiful wood it would be a big change from the pressure treated pine I see here in Texas. How old is the deck sounds like it's pretty new?
