  1. We had a version of the grey that was called Nantucket Grey I don't remember what the difference was tho.It may have been more bluish grey but it's been a while. I understand you wanna wait on the contest so i'll wait ...:lglolly:
  2. Ohh cool i guess i could make a killing staining using my slate grey stain :D am i close on my quote??
  3. My guess is $2500? I'm that high considering you are in the NE Did you not clean and seal the cedar shakes ?
  4. I don't always use a brightner after using bleach i just wait and see how the wood looks after cleaning. You have to watch out acid and bleach together put off bad fumes!
  5. Yes clean and stain the underside first the chems and stain will make drip marks. You might have to rinse the underside last but that's minor compared to blending in drip marks. Well can you staple plastic to mask off the house? You either attach to the house or the bottom of the deck. That's all you have to worry about and protecting plants etc. where the pics?
  6. Well water works great for concrete, bricks, stone pre wet it won't stick or bed sheets for plants 4x4 pcs of card board for sheilds to pull the plants back. You can make a sheild for the back side of the fence with 12' plastic stapled to 2 1x2 strips of wood propped up behind the fence.

  10. Fences are easy when you don't have all the plants or concrete, pools to protect"1-2 neighbors houses down".When its windy that stain flys everywhere so it's good to have help. I've done 1000's of miles of fences and they never change just the surroundings.
  11. Spooky we both posted at the same time Jim
  12. Oxalic will get off the waxy coating and i usually bleach out the greenish color in some PT pine.BleAch/soap never leave home with out it for new wood
  13. New ACQ PT wood does not take stain real good.I've seen new PT wood that takes atleast 6 months-1 yr to cure depending on exposure to the sun. It's also needs to go thru wet/dry cycles to cure and dry out.
  14. What happened

  16. Can a BBS be an industry leader?

I would say YES a BBS can be an industry leader for the reason that of the members on the BBS.Who makes up our industry other than the contractors who are members of the BBS.. The BBS will be only as good as the qualified members that help answer or trouble shoot the problems and questions asked.Who wants a BBS that has stupid people who give stupid answers.Cause there are never stupid questons only stupid people that ask them.... nahhh just kidding.. :D We all talk about diff products and the BBS's biggest asset to everybody is the "trial and error" info we give the newbies that saves them the PITA times we had toe learn the hard way.Who needs to take calsses with al the valuable info here pics vids included. No wood class will teach you as much as on the job training huh ? I don't see a problem with a BBS to favor products as long they are worth the time and $$.Then there needs to be threads that also talk about product B that you are able to compare to.If product A is so good there is no need to worry about the competion right? I know everybody has their specific products that they use and that's should be enough real world testing to decide what works for your company in whatever region you are in.Not the testing in a excellerated chamber like you will read about in product testing etc. Those test i don't see them to be as tried and TRUE like everyday contractors. I will not be shy about the products i use and how those products were used to buld our 15 yr old company "no advertising by the way".Now will that work for your comapny maby not? That's all i gotta say bout that :lglolly: :lgwave:
  17. Ready Seal Over Olympic Maximun Stain

P.S this should be in the ask the pros forum...
  18. Baby Name Game

    Congrats Pappa Scott :lgwave:
  19. Ready Seal Over Olympic Maximun Stain

That deck is pretty dirty black spots etc.also with lots of old stain on it.Your final look of the new stain will only look as good as the deck is cleaned.Especially with RS that is very transparent and will show all of the wood grain. You need to have a even and uniform look to the wood when using RS Deck not cleaned properly= blotchy looking wood grain!
  20. Flagstone question.

I've cleaned some Flag stone not much all i used was a S/H/soap mixture sprayed with a shurflo.Let it dwell then rinse. You shouldn't need much pressure. You might have to wait and see if there are rust spots etc. I've sealed some with a addement product but i think you can use V-Seal but i'm not sure. The V-Seal rep might chime in on this one.
  21. using hot water is a big no no on wood...i've heard some guys using warm water or atleast in the colder months.
  22. Well i understand Dan but being you have multiple layers of paint or primer whatever the bottom layer is? You will still need multiple strips once you remove the top layer of paint.
  23. If you get and Sodium hydroxide hot enough it's gonna melt any paint off.I've done it many times with just S/H and soap alone nothing special.
  24. No Prob Greg hope it didn't bring up to bad of memories or maby the insurance made it feel a little better :) How did the squirrel taste well done ? ;)
  25. Here ya go Greg i still had the pic saved from a when i saw it.
