  1. Did I make the right choice?

There is nothing wrong with you trying to clean your own wood or concrete. It's not that hard if you know to use the right chems so you use less pressure on wood. You never pull the trigger while pointing at the wood. You also keep the trigger pulled as you move from the top down staying 6 to 12" away. What chems are you using to clean the fence?
  2. What's the PC?? with the TSP etc? BlEaCh? I haven't tried TSP in my mix cause it worries me if it gets on windows!
  3. Ahhh he should be named Plainscientist not Plainpainter :D If there is an experiment that should made it should be bleach vs oxalic.I would use oxalic if the wood had rust stains or leaf stains. I still feel bleach will prep the wood up better to accept the stain.
  4. Did I make the right choice?

Cool thanks Phillip that's what i was looking for  I've had Adian "AC NEWGUY" working with me on some staining jobs.I'm converting him from RS to the BGA he did say the BGA doesn't stink like the RS.I'll have to try using his surface cleaner to see how they work. Did you sell all of your equipment?
  5. Thanks Rick  Like i said having not worked on IPE that much but when i did and used bleach only.It got a little lighter but looked like new once stained. I would think IPE is like working with New ACQ wood where nothing wants to soak in.So I'm with Jim and I would advise customers to let the wood turn grey. How ever long it takes if it's in the sun 100% or partial sun 6mths-1yr.I would tell the customer to wet the IPE down ever so often to speed up the aging. Since bleach dries wood out so much wouldn't you want to wash IPE with a light bleach/soap mixture? I've been trying to figure out what this thread is trying to accomplish??
  6. Did I make the right choice?

He sounded like a H.O to me Jarrod...Are surface cleaners easy to handle for a H.O.?? I figured with a weak P/washer it might not be so bad? I'm only wood so i've never touched a surface cleaner.
  7. Did I make the right choice?

I"m not sure you can get a surface cleaner to run on a machine that small but you would be better off renting a surface cleaner if possible. It will make your life a lot easier than using the wand to clean your concrete.Check with Lowes they probally rent them?? Here is the surface cleaner below..
  8. I don't work on IPE but maby a few planter boxes.I don't see why there would be a difference between oxalic/citric?I use only oxalic but don't they do the samething to wood?Oxalic being stronger and works faster to brighten? The wood does look a little orange after oxalic.Does citric also make PT wood or cedar look orange? Why would it matter if the wood is gonna look a shade different with oxalic or citric if you are gonna stain it anyway?? I can't tell the difference with bleach or oxalic after the wood is stained especially PT wood :D
  9. Rick I'll call Tony Soprano for you and see what i can do? I have to make my waste managment payment this month ;)
  10. First Cedar Home

Cool lil crib Paul! I take it you didn't stain the inside too huh ?

Those prices are pretty good but just try to get the highest GPM pump you can.when you are cleaning wood you want to use the right chems so you use less pressure.LET THE CHEMS DO THE WORK!! The higher GPM will let you rinse faster especially on concrete. You might want to look at buying an x-jet to wash your house. You can wash most of if not all of it from the ground....The X-JET long range nozzle is now available as the M-JET nozzle. The M-Jet has all the features of the X-JET except it comes with a variable nozzle on the outlet of the nozzle. The M-Jet is to be used on jobs where the zero degree impact of the orig Bob has great chems too..Get your jobs cleaner and done fast with our quality line of pressure washing chemicals! -
  12. Behr hell-o

Well i only used F-18 and extra flakes to make it hotter. It only takes patience and mutiple strips with aggitating the wood with a deck brush also helps.I didn't need to go to a chemistry class to learn how to mix my chems so i didn't blow up. :D
  13. Behr hell-o

OOPPS How SIlLy oF mE! :lgbonk: :lgwave:
  14. Behr hell-o

It takes Dwell and multiple strips you gotta have patience.....see pic below
  15. Looks good AC! You think you had enough plastic on the grass? :D
  16. Ready to scream

Well it all depends on how dificult the job is? are the decks new,old ....Do they need to be stripped or just light cleaned? How much are you paying for your stain and what stain is it?
  17. Flatbed truck I just bought

  19. Like a Virgin

Looks good Rich  what product did you use or is it a secret?
  20. Clean and seal $2100 :EDIT i didn't see the walkway so that depends how much of the walkway is near the fence so that's an extra $150 to protect = Total $2250
  21. That looks like a beach house so the wind is gonna be terrible! It will probally take you twice as long to stain that deck by hand if you can't spray casue of the wind. What stain are you pricing for that deck at those $$ totals?
  22. oopps PS

where is the pic? Edit : I found the pic in a diff thread nevermind :
  23. 10x10 or 12x12 patio deck i'm guessing ?? IF you are working around neighbors stained wood you have to be able to pre wet their deks, cover with plastic. You find out what kind of stain they used if they don't have any left over?? Also if you need to touch it up it's not the end of the world. As long as both your customer and the neighbor agree to this.I think just covering the prewetted deck will be ok. Does the fence also have a solid on it? Cleaning the fence can leak thru the knots if you have to strip real strong strippers and use pressure. The back side of the fence would probally need to touched up. Behr SILLYcone stain maby Acrylic probally was used if they bought it from the Depot. It's a tough to stain to strip but not impossible if they are willing to pay the extensive labor to chem strip. Now there is always sanding but very labor extensive deck only of course. Now the WCRLA would strongly disagree with me and would want you to sand the cedar fence. Now why would you sand rough sawn cedar? You might as well replace the fence if it comes to that. feel free to call me if you have any questions..
  24. Another WTW Job

That's pretty good hrs for a job that size especially including that lil arbor also! I don't even wanna start talking about finding labor to work!:furious:
