  1. cleaning composite

I clean composite decking with bleach and soap all the time and have stained a few with the Gray Away. There are some people who don't want a grey deck and keep it the original brown color. This is the choice decking in the pics.

  5. WTW Job

That's sweet Paul nice job!
  6. Jon i believe they were talking about the Behr stain left in the wood after stripping. The color left in the wood will darken/chang the color tone of any new semi-trans stain applied to the deck/fence.Behr is pretty much the common crap H.O's will buy from the Depot. It's ashame that's the best stain they have to offer consumers. If you are stripping a old "reddish" stain and if you can't remove it completly you might want to try to stain with that same color tone.It will blend in better than trying to gold over a red stain cause it will never look like true gold.
  7. The deck looks just cleaned and not sealed. Nice job John!
  8. Todays nightmare

    Smashing job Roger
  9. Thanks Ryan Well when i'm working that close to pools where the deck is over the pool i will brush that in by hand.I have also covered the pool with a large piece of plastic.
  10. Here is some of the work i've done in Bentwater with the Gray Away that holds up pretty good in 100% sun.
  11. I have decks/docks "1500sqft avg" allover Conroe in Bentwater mainly.I measure all surface area priced per sqft and railing by the lft depend how tall the rail is.
  12. RyanLRS what stain are you using for your decks and fences? You say you can't go below a $1 sqft is that because the price you are paying for the stain? When it comes to prices of stain you get what you pay for and a stains durable track record should speak for itself.I have gotten a few calls from contractors complaining about how Wood Defender has been holding up on fences.
  13. Rich people or rich snobs

  19. Yeah well when i get advise to SAND rough sawn cedar which i would never ever think of doing in my life!I think they need to worry about producing quality cedar fence pickets and plant some more trees! :D
  20. HEY Rick see the quote below our friend MR ED.'s WRCLA :D Care of wood decks The bright color of the wood on weathered decks can be restored by application of commercial products (called deck cleaners, brighteners, or restorers). These products do not add color to the deck, but remove mildew and dirt, allowing the natural color of the wood to show. If all the natural color has been leached from the surface, the wood will appear silver gray following cleaning. These commercial cleaning products may remove the weathered wood surface; therefore, care should be exercised to avoid damaging the surface of the wood. Aggressive scrubbing with a caustic cleaner can remove wood from the surface, particularly on softer wood such as western redcedar. Mildew can also can be removed by luiquid household bleach. Dilute the bleach with 3 parts water and add some detergent. CAUTION: Do not use a liquid detergent or a detergent containing ammonia. Ammonia reacts with bleach to form a toxic gas. The bleach solution should be rinsed from the deck with water. If the deck is to be finished after cleaning, allow 1 to 2 days drying time.
  21. need fencing help

I know what you saying Jarrod using stripper would make cleaning faster but he would have to brighten so 2 steps needed. It would help to have a helper to brighten as he p/washes.So since he's a one man show if he just bleaches and only p/wash then no need to use oxalic. Why i will bleach instead strip some times like on a job like this you now have to worry more about protecting what's behind the fence. You would still have to have access to all yards to rinse plants etc. I would price this job by Lft. so 740 Lft x2.00=$1480 So to make it even and give a little discount i'll make it $1400 This fence could be cleaned in 1 day 8-10 hrs with a helper hoping there is not too much crap behind the fence to move or protect. Also remember this job can lead to more jobs so over bid yourself and give him a good deal since you're just starting out.Still trying to talk him into staining the fence later.
