  6. 500' dock

Chris i can ship you some Gray Away stain just call me anytime 2-3 days delivery Fed Ex.Is the old stain pigmented or clear? If you try the WT you might want to get the new Woodrich stain Rus came out with.It sounds like it will similar to the oil base you were using. Now if you are going to use a different stain you should strip the old stain on the deck now before using and new type stain. Just call me if you need and help.
  7. That must have been fun to measure in the first place as cut up as that deck is! I'm guessing it took you 15-20 gallons and how much were able to spray? Is the rail 2 2x8's on the top cap it look a little thick? I love cypress we had a lot in the swamps in Louisiana. Oh yeah that rail better be beefy or you going to be camping with the bears and the deer if the rail falls over that looks like a long way down :D
  8. first deck job

Ahh that's cool if you were able to get the deck darker and richer in color. You might want to wait a few weeks till it cures and take pics so your customer will see the finished product. I like to show my customers a pic when it's the darkest and after it cures so i won't hear "it's sooo dark will it get lighter".
  9. first deck job

Well you should less in theory staining by hand especially the railling but a deck that dry after you cleaned it will soak up the stain like a sponge! I would tell them the deck might need to be stained again in a year then you should be able to go atleast 2 years after that. It's like training the deck to hold the stain and next time you should use half what you used this time.I'm talking staining the only the floor and the topcap of the rail. Good job for a first deck it's only gonna get easier
  10. first deck job

Nice looking color  how much stain did it take u doing it by hand?
  11. Damm that would suck all them bugs what did you keep a fan blowing on them? we have the love season that can be a PITA or if i'm working at the beach at night the bugs get bad. You count your railing as sqft also huh? Nice and level ground around there i see!
  12. Nice view Neil sweet looking job! where is the rest of the 3k sqft?
  13. Are you a Democrat, Republican or Redneck?

  14. First wood-tux job

nevermind i see the boards were notched in the raillibng post you coudn't flip those.
  15. First wood-tux job

WOW i see what you mean that's pretty black alright! It might have been better to flip the boards since they are square? The good thing it's the back porch huh :D
  16. First wood-tux job

That front steps and rail looks great Dan but what's up with the back deck floor? Are the dark spots from old sealer that couldn't be removed ?
  17. Jon, i know what you mean some sections clean up easier than others than there is the railling that's a another story. No 2 decks are ever the same when it comes to stripping them. The dwell time or chem strength will vary on how tough the old coating is still sticking to the wood in diff areas. My oops factor is to bid the job an extra 2-3 hours for extra steps in cleaning.I would figure hourly rather than sqft. especially on tough strip jobs like this.
  18. There is just no way you can let your customers choose any product they want. Then i'm expected to warranty the stain they choose? Most of the stains that consumers have access like in HD or Lowes are junk anyway. If you find a product you can trust and consistantly depend on stick with it.I don't want to leave a job and have to worry about how the stain will hold up.I want to know how this stain will wear over time and what to expect till the next maintenace. So find a quality deck stain and stick with it cause "consistant" stain quality is great for customer referals!
  19. Where do you hang out your shingle?

  21. Newbie for Shubie

That's the best handjob i've ever seen Neil you the man!
  22. It's like if you spray a 30x30 or even bigger area and then by time you are done you could go back and spray your second coat.Well it would also have to depend if the wood is new or old as to how fast the stain soaks in. You don't walk on your first coat of stain after you spray it? I do all the time and just pad my prints to blend them in.
  23. Another Thames side clean.
