  1. Nice job Doug big difference! What did you use to clean the deck? The decking looks like there is some mildew under all that grey/green crud? It's hard to tell from the pic if it's some shadows from the trees.I know i've stripped decks and and under the crud was still some mildew. So i'll spray a mixture of bleach and rinse then use some oxalic then rinse again.
  2. I would prefer to stain w/shurflo setup to get in the cracks real good and back pad. I'm glad you think stripping is enjoyable cause i know there are times when i wish i wasn't in this biz it sucked so much! If you think that was easy just wait till you come accross some solid Acrylic stain or some newly applied Sikkens. You sometimes have to spray multiple times of stripper dwelling 1/2hr.or longer. congrats on your first stripping of a deck
  3. Wouldn't touch it with a 50' pole myself unless i'm stripping and re staining that deck.
  4. Here is a SILLYcone product that was applied a few years after the deck was first built. Then everybody's fav. Behr stain was applied 2 years ago and so far the test spot looks good.I tested a board close to the house that had a good bit of stain. How do you like that easy application water hose process?
  5. Rick, you forgetting bout the Chicken Ranch "Best Little Ho House in Texas? :D Dan, the stripper nothing special but it works pretty damm good!
  6. No red filter on my cam Jon..I've said i only use a 1 MP cam so it's not the best digi cam there is.The Oxalic brightened wood always has a redish/orangish look also to me even in person. You sure you not wearing some rose colored glsses?? :D
  7. HD who?? This deck was stripped with my own stripper i make myself and melted this Behr/Sillycone stuff right off this deck!
  8. Color Choices

Yep super busy alright and after we get some rain today starting Mon.it's going to be non stop! I've been getting calls everyday for maintance jobs and some new referrals!
  9. Well there are times you are just not able to please everybody has hard as you might try.Now you can just fix this problem and make them happy and tell them their deck is SOOO rare and this never happens to your other customers. Then you make a note in their file and just lose their number case closed.:D
  10. Color Choices

I offer the usual Clear,Reds,Golds,Browns,Grey and Taupe that 99.9% of the time will suit customers in matching their house color scheme. Like all wood at different ages tend to look different when stained with the same color. So Pete that's why Tom doesn't have a brochure with color samples to hand out.The brochure will never give you a "TRUE" color tone that the finished look will give you It's always best to use a sample piece of wood or have pics of jobs old and new stained with diff colors you offer.
  11. That would be the exact way i would clean that fence. No with PT pine fences the bleach mix needs to be a little stronger since the wood is harder than cedar. My cleaning cost also depends on what's around the fence like plants and what could be behind the fence to protect/rinse on the neighbors side $400-$500 to clean only $300 to clean and $675 to seal
  12. Jarrod, why don't you leave your customer touch up stain since TWP blends in so easily My bid states that all deck jobs carry a 12 month guarantee. Woodsavers of Texas guaruntees workmanship and product performance for 24 months on rough sawn cedar and 12 months on pressure treated pine. guaruntee covers sunlight graying, mildew and algae.Guaruntee is limited to replacement of wood sealer only.
  13. Latest Deck

Hmm not sure where the name originated from i'll have to get back to you on that one... but I've always been proud to be a Cajun Coon A$$ even after living in Tx since 88-89  We used to hunt coons with a spotlight they were easy to hit but i never got to make a hat out of one i killed.Well i can't think of much we didn't hunt but didn't eat everything we hunted. We were just bored and liked to ride in the swamps and see what we could hunt for :D Nice job on that deck again Ken i guess my Wood restoration school is working! ;) tuition dues are in the mail??:D
  14. Latest Deck

Dammm Ken you are getting this staining gig down huh? I know cleaning and sealing wood to some time to get the hang of compared to cleaning roofs or concrete.Don't you think it's getting easier now since your first deck job? Sweet looking deck design i like that  That's pretty funny Jon cause i went to class at The University of Atchafalya @The Henderson Swamp school.I paddled my pirough through the swamps every morning to class that was taught by proffessor Boudreaux.:D I know the swamps real good cause when i was younger we went frogging, fishing and alligator hunting in the swamps late at night boy that was a trip by itself! It's funny you think my pics look good even when i'm only using a 1MP camera.I need a good Cannon (5 MP atleast) camera with a wide angle lens I'm using a Sony mini DV handy cam. The best time of the day for taking pics is in the A.M to prevent taking overexposed pics. Also if you have to take pics in direct sun it's good to use a polarized lens filter. It's like putting sunglasses on your lens they just screw on the existing lens of your camera.
  15. Cool thanks John for the info  i'm gonna have to get in touch with Trex and see if i could get some jobs in the winter whe we slow down some. If someone can afford to have a composite deck built then i would think $400 to maintain it shouldn't be a problem. The cost of composite materials have dropped close to PT pine decking materials cost. I like Choice decking way better than Trex looks better and feels better to walk on than Trex.
  16. concrete cleaner

I don't see what you could type that give you an error and not let you post? are you typing in the box on the bottom or going to advanced mode?
  17. Nice payday! John what type of sealer you are using for composites oil base/ water base? pigmented/clear? I take it it's a product made by Trex? hmmm maint.free products huh ! who's pays for this work the customer/Trex?
  18. concrete cleaner

I'm no concrete guy but from what i've heard Sodium Hydroxide products will clean up oil on concrete and oxalic acid will remove rust stains. My guess the key to using these types of chems it would be just like cleaning wood "DWELL" time and mixture strentgh depending how dirty the stains are would be very important. I buy all my chems raw and make my own mixes for cleaning wood so name brand cleaners i can't help ya there. I've heard of guys buying chems here if ya interested? http://www.chemistrystore.com/ good luck on concrete cleaner search that i would think the answer must be posted on here somewhere! :) What brand of cleaner didn't work for you? So someone else won't waste their time using it
  19. Way to go Lance looks like you saved yourself major time and hassle on up on those roofs...:lgkeyboar Now you just have to remmber to keep your batteries in your remote charge up :D
  20. no pics Jarrod?? how big was it? My cleaning charges will depend how far the job is and size but no less than $300.I will majority of time also stain the deck @.60 sqft.If i'm just going to clean the deck,I would be around $350-$400 for 800- 1000 sqft. I think cleaning composites are pretty easy to clean since they are so tough and durable.
  21. I've stained a few composite decks Pete with Gray Away Cedar Dark it looks just like new brown composite decking. It takes a little while to soak in but my customers have been very happy how's it holds up. I use only bleach/soap to clean my composite decks on 2 yrs maintance.
  22. OHh boyyy good luck getting that oil out of Trex.If all else fails try some bleach on that spot with some 12% full strength.
  23. tips for this deck

Neil There is a chance you can mask off the solid stain/paint and try to get the plastic to stay up?? If it was me i would plan on touching the rail up with the solid that's on it and forget the plastic. If you can't get the plastic to stay up you can prewet the solid then spray your stripper min.strentgh and see how it comes off. For the flagstone use WATER WATER and plastic after you wet them and water on top of the plastic to hold the plastic down. The stairs would probally be faster to do them by hand and the floor use a small tip for the cracks.I find using a roller or paint pad on the floors that you get more drips. Feel free to call if you need any help except for using WTW i have no clue. The Gray Away i use is pretty forgiving to work with also easy clean up on most surfaces. Is the WTW easy to clean up if dripped on concrete, stone etc?? More pics of the whole deck and house?
  24. Wood type ID

Well with wood that old it would be next to impossible to keep it looking like new once it dries.Yeah it will look all golden when it's wet but when dried the sun will bleach it out again without any pigment. That wood just need a bunch of oil it's so dry and if she wants a light color it will need to be stained atleast once a year. The deck will only look better in time after a few treatments as the oil soaks in the wood. There is no answer to stop the sun damage other than using a pigmentent stain. I use only bleach/soap so i can't answer for EFC-38 but it's used by many other guys and works for them.
  25. Wood type ID

Looks like sun bleached out cedar to me. nice camera you have looks like i'm inside the piece of wood!
