  2. NC pollen

POLLEN ARGHHHHHHHHHH!! Everything is soo green here from the pine trees it's unbelievable. I Don't think it's the best time to stain a deck when the pollen first starts falling. The customers that have it bad i'll wait a few weeks till it stops falling or slows down.If the pollen is too bad after you finished staining the pollen will settle on top of the oil. Now after the oil base stain dries i'll tell my customer they can rinse the pollen off the deck. I haven't had any problems so far after they rinsed the pollen off of the deck as the water just beads up and the pollen is washed away.
  3. Tim,here is another thread on another site that involved hail damage http://www.deckcare.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1880&highlight=hail+damage
  4. Stone Talk

I try my hardest to keep my stain OFF the stone that's on the houses and fences i work on! Lou,what is the best type of cleaner i could use if i get some of my oil base stain on them? I work quite a bit around the stone like that's on the house in my avatar i'm not sure what type of stone they are.. I use Xylene and try scrubbing the spots now and works pretty good if i get to the spot quick enough. We tried cleaning and sealing pavestone for a while...acid wash...sealed..we were using a product made by Adement. It was a pretty hard sale to make for the most part. Most people didn't like the sheen that the sealer made.Trying to sell the customer on how easy the the stone will be after you seal them was tough. How much $$ a sqft can you get for cleaning and sealing pavestone in Cali? Also how long do most seal jobs hold up before you have to redo them 3-4 yrs?? Here is a pic of a stain removal i cleaned made from some potted plants set on the stone also the the chems i used.

  9. Low ballers making an impact.

I don't like talking about my competitors either but it's not like I know of very many companies i go against. Now if a customer brings up a bid and is trying to compare my work against another company.I will make my point of my experience and our company's reputation in the wood restoration buisness. My first question to that customer will be what kind of stain are they going to use on your deck, fence etc? Customers are getting smart to where they know "you get what you pay for" with really LOW prices. That is also why i love that we SPECIALIZE in just wood restoration vs.P/washing.There are many more guys p/washing vs.only Wood restoration around here.I'm not in a price war to offer a SPECIALIZED service that is not as common P/washing etc. I WILL not lower my prices to compete against a guy who will not be found again in this biz 2 yrs from now using the cheapest stain he can find!

  17. Rollers would work just as well as a paint pad but a paint pad gets in the corners better than a roller. Now if you don't want it to sling the stain all around on some bricks, concrete etc. rollers wouldn;t be good. I spray majority of my decks, fences, arbors etc.then back pad where needed. You can roll, pad or brush any job but spraying will be your most effecient way of applying your stain. If you are dealing with the wind of course it makes it harder to spray so you have to adapt where needed.
  18. Dennis,I get them from Texas Wood Products in Plano when i get my stain delivered to me.I get both the holder and just the refills.I haven't been able to find a local distributor for Padco other than Tom Baker in PLano. Jon,The Padco pads hold stain just fine and I'll just dip them in my bucket and then squeeze off the excess off the side of the bucket. They are not the best way to apply stain but the long nap and the thicker sponge with the Padco does hold up pretty good. The only draw back is that it will pick up the splinters like you wouldn't believe. I like them better than the shurline where as the shurline sponge will come un-glued and tear apart. The Padco last longer and is more durable for me..
  19. No problem Beth glad i could help ..
  20. This is the pad i use from Padco.
  21. You are very welcomed :) I haven't tried this paint pad yet personally...I use a paint pad made from Padco that usually last me a few jobs.
