  2. Thanks Mike  That's good to hear Scott! Like Mike said that is a very patriotic job position you are wanting.I hope it works out for you and you land the job GOOD LUCK!!
  3. Thanks Scott...:lgbow: It's good to see you around it's been a while hope all is ok in Ga.
  4. Bad coverage

You should be able to just brush or roll more on it's waterbase.I don't see why it wouldn't blend in or soak in. Was that the homeowners shoice of stain? Waterbase stains usually look good for a while then tend to look washed out as they weather the wood gets all dry.
  5. Ipe and cedar porch

    Looks sweet ..
  6. What kind of wood is it?? Why did you strip the new finish because it was not drying? I know a light bleaching will open up those pores.
  7. Here is a section of a 1200 sqft deck we cleaned today. The bleach mixture was light and cleaned up pretty easy 3hrs start to finish. We are gong to stain it early Fri. before it gets to damm HOT.
  8. Trex decks

I maintain a Choice deck which is similar to Trex.I re-stain it every 2 years and the homeowners couldn't be happier. Here is the thread i have it in. http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3491&highlight=choice+composite+decking
  9. Rod Yes I sure did bid the job higher than normal.I've learned to bid older decks/fences higher to make up for the lower sqft per gallon.
  10. We have used bleach for 15 years and never have had a problem with our jobs caused by the bleach.I have been trying both oxalic acid and bleach and have not seen any noticable difference. I've seen plenty of wood not maintained on a regular basis that has caused it to crack and rot.So i don't think bleach alone causes all the damage to wood .I think it's more of the sun's heat/UV damage and the homeowner not maintaining the wood often enough being the big problems.Oh yeah and people who don't know how to P/wash. If bleach is Sooo bad why do the stain companies like Sherwin Williams, Ready seal and i know my Baker's Gray Away manufacturer say to use bleach? If you look at the deck cleaner for Sherwin Williams it's 50% Sodium Hypochlorite.
  11. Jay, You have to rinse the bleach off also you will want to remove the dead wood fibers from the cedar.Leaving the dead wood fibers will make the stain look dark. I don't use oxalic after bleaching/p-washing a fence a fence.
  12. ? 4 Shurflo Users

    Bates chemical company
  13. ? 4 Shurflo Users

James, I used to buy 10% bleach from Bate's chemical company in Liberty Tx. Have you heard of them? We were getting 3 55gal drums delivered here in Houston.
  14. x-jet help

    You da man Ryan!:lgbow: :lgbow:
  15. Olympic Sealer

I would strip it and use something other stain.Cause if you have problems no what makes you think you won't have those again.
  16. blotty deck

Those were my thoughts also when a old stain is not removed completely it will leave the deck looking uneven.
  17. blotty deck

The stain might not have been stirred well enough. You could try blending it in if you can even do that with Sikkens
  18. Kevin Ipe is hardwood a VERY hardwood that's also in another poll.
  19. My best advise really is to start as early as you can Dale  Now if you were doing really big decks and you might be there all day staining. You could set up one of those E-Z pop up tents over a section at a time. Leave it up for a few minutes while the deck cools then stain it just a thought
  20. You want to talk about HOT Dale,I've been feeling the heat here in Tx 110 heat index! I haven't really been having big jobs lately that's going to take all day to complete. So I've been trying to start around 7 a.m.and try to be done for 2 P.M. When decks are hot the stain does flash some but it will be ok.You might have to use a little more stain to get the deck darker. What stain are you using Dale? Do they have a recomended temp for application? I wouldn't think wetting the deck before you stain it wouldn't be a good idea especially if you are using a oil base.
  21. 1.8 60 psi....i have tried using a 40 psi pump that is cheaper. Now it works ok but you can feel the difference of the psi. I would rather work faster and complete the job as quick as i can to get out this darn HEAT!!! Woo hoo we got rain yesterday.90 inches and today the first drops we have seen in 2 months!! My grass actually started growing again...I'm not gonna be bailing hay after all :-)
  22. No Prob Bill  I run a "Dawn"soapy mixture thru the pump maby 2 or 3 gal to clean up. Yes you can use this set up for decks or fences that pump will be all you will need unless you spray a solid. Here are some pics of my set up i just love this swivel tip and 4' wand. You can also get a shorter wand also a 2' and a 3'. I also posted the plastic trigger i use to spray my chems it's a great trigger
  23. I've only used a shurflo set up to clean and seal for over 8 years. They hold up pretty good most of the time. Also the stain i use is even thicker than RS and i have no problems at all. What size shurflo are you using?
