Using Bleach to clean a PT deck
seymore replied to seymore's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Thanks Beth  I've always used bleach and soap to clean un-treated decks.I see a lot of mildew and bleach gets the job done fast and works great. It's hard for me to think another chem could make this look any better. I've never used a percarb to clean decks. Does it work like a mild stripper? I know what ya saying that bleach can harm the wood if not used properly.I've had a few customers that did a number on their deck cleaning with bleach.I was left to salvage their mess with the bleach and the p/washer with a 0 tip.I thought he was trying to write his name in his deck. :D This deck will be in Gray Away Brown as dark as i can get it the sun is horrible in that yard. (Bleach doesn't kill wood people who use bleach wrong kill wood) -

That's too funny Jon!! :rotfl: This thread has been good reading  -
We work with a development company to stain all the fences in the subdivision that they developed.I will stain all 500 fences of the homes and every 3-4 years there after.Unless the homeowner buys the Gray Away from us comapny and does the work themselves. We started the subdivision by spraying 2500 lft of 8' tall fence All of the fences are to be sprayed with Gray Away "Blend" per HOA. I've tried calling a realator about restoring a house they had for sale. She said she would tell the homeowner and give him my name yeah right  Since the the realator is only selling the house for the owner so they have no say so.

Well if you are going to re stain it with a diff stain you will want to strip that Cabots. If you are just trying to kill mildew mix some bleach/soap and it should clean up just fine.

Geez that would take all day to sand,so that was like a 3 day job? That job must have been a pretty penny to do all that cleaning and sanding then sealing. -

HD-80 vs. EFC-38
seymore replied to the_GUNN_man's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Nick i mix my own S/H stripper but it's still does the same job as the most other S/H strippers out there. I have remove some paint a few times by accident...painted door...gutter once.I think i had a strong mixture both times so it will take paint off trust me.So mask with some plastic where needed around painted surfaces Now it will aslo burn some grass if it's mixed strong also.Hardy green plants if kept wet usually hold up good RINSE good! If you have roses,or most flowering plants i will usually cover with plastic atleast till i'm done rinsing. If you leave the plastic on to long they will burn in the hot sun! I will use the best chem for the job to clean it the best and fastest  What exactly is the chem make up of this EFC-38? -
stripping paint
seymore replied to glock40's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Your pics have to be in .jpg format so make sure they are not in .bmp format. Then you just have to resize them if they are still too big. .jpg format is a more compressed file than .bmp files. Check out this link to see if it helps you to remove your paint. http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3900 -
