jnoden I've never used that set up but i don't see why it wouldn't work.I use a 1.8 gpm and 60 psi for all my cleaning and staining jobs. How big is the tank on that back pack? I don't know if i would want to wear that back pack and have the chems leak on me!!!!!! I wouldn't want a tank smaller than 5 gal due to having to fill it up too often. Most of my deck jobs are 1000 sqft and up so not having to stop spraying to fill up is key.

Ryan I used Xylene or you could use MEK so the chem will dry fast.Running some "Dawn" soapy water mixture would help also.

I've sprayed a concrete/pavestone sealer with my shur flo pump in the past. It's pretty tough on the pumps and they have to be cleaned real well!

I've never stopped for more than 3 or 4 days of rain or cool temps this winter.I cleaned 350 Lft.of fence today and i have a 2500 sqft dock to stain tomorrow

I'll keep all my powdered chems in a covered 5 gal bucket and mix them as needed. They are also stored in my wharehouse in a cool dry place. My bleach is kept in their 55 gal drums outside covered with a tarp.

What's you vehicle of choice...and why?
seymore replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
My choice is the new 05 Toyota Tacoma. It's a dependable pickup with decent gas milage,as long as i keep my foot out of the carb. -

I've never used it but becareful of that veggie oil in the oil base DeckScapes it's a good food source for mildew. -

Sprayer for using ready seal stain

Carlos Rolling/back padding will help soak in faster especially newer wood "cedar" Older cedar will soak up the stain lots of times faster when padding is not needed for me. Sometimes i have some old wood that you can spray your first coat and by the time you start over it's dry to the bone.I'll spray 3 if not 4 coats sometimes I'm not one to skimp on my stain. Now if you are staining new PT pine that hasn't had time to dry out,It won't matter if you back pad it's just gonna roll off and not darken. -

I can't vote because my stain is not listed :( I'm gonna keep on using the same and only stain i've used in 8 yrs Baker's Gray Away. It's a great stain to work with and has some great looking natural tones. It's amazing how many refferals i get from my customers who swear that it's the best stain they have ever used.I've had people drive 75 miles or more to pick up some stain for their deck or fence. When it comes to price it would be next to imposible to get another quality stain any cheaper.I do also buy 120 gallons every few weeks even now in Jan.During the summer i'm buying 240 gals. all trucked in so shipping is at a great $$. Learning to get good coversge rates per job is a big key to making better margins.I'm usually right on on fences 150 sqft per gal and decks 100 sqft or better but it varies with the age of the wood. If i see a real old deck that will suck up a lot of stain i will price it alittle higher to make up for the extra stain the wood will suck up! As for durability for a semi trans oil base stain 1 1/2 -2 yrs on decks and 3-4 yrs on fences and even 5-6 yrs on some cedar houses  So i can't rerally ask for any more from a stain than i'm already getting!Another thing that is good about using the same stain exclusively is that I'm gonna be very confident in how it performs and not get any suprises down the road. -
If you gonna mix that much chems do you have to use it pretty soon in like 1-2 days? Will it not weaken if it sits for a while?

Sprayer for using ready seal stain

I've never used RS stain but a shur flo pump set up or those decker/deckster pumps will work. I use a shurflo set up 1.8 gpm 60 psi pump and it's more than i need to stain decks/fences/cedar houses/arbors  -
Thanks Carlos  Well it depends if the PT lumber has mildew ...1x6 rot board...2x4's etc.Sometimes the cedar will get mud on it before they install the grass so then i'll clean them.

It's been raining here in the last week so i've been at home a good bit.Overall my staining biz has been non stop all winter.Mostly we have had a mild winter mid 70's and not to wet. What's helped me the most is having a subdivison contract to stain the fences of all the houses being built.I will have a total of 500+ houses ranging from 400K & up. Also every 4 years i'll be getting calls due to the stain that has to used is the only stain allowed.I'm the only company that supplies it in all of Houston :D

Replacable vs durable
seymore replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I'll run a a few gallons of "Dawn" soapy/water mixture thru my shur flo set ups.I'll leave them full of water/soap also so they prime easier. The Gray Away stain i use has mineral spirits/Parrafin oil in it and if i leave that in the pump it ruins the O-rings. -
