seymore replied to seymore's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Cool appreciate the info Scott!! I'm gonna order some this week cause i can go thru a bunch of brass ones on my chem pump. I'll tell you there is nothing i hate more than a leaky wand when i'm spraying bleach.:lgangry: -

WOW they are pretty proud of those stainless connects huh!! Are they worth paying twice the price of brass ones? Are most of you guys using stainless connects on your Shurflo set ups to spray bleach? -

Next generation of homeowner applied products.
seymore replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Looks ok for a water base stain pretty easy to apply but that fence will be dry in a few months.I just don't see a water base stain being as good for the wood as an oil base stain. -
I"m gonna be back home in La. for the holidays eating some SPICY home cooking:lgjump:

Pumps, which do you use most?
seymore replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I've been using a 1.8 gpm 60 psi shur flo set up for years for all my chems and staining.Oh 12 volt of course which is needed for some jobs where no electricity is available. All viton Valves and Diaphram in all pumps. Until recent i tried a more expensive flo jet to see the difference in the 2.I found out the flo jet being a 2 stage pump compared to the 3 stage shur flo.The FLo jet is not good a pump as the shurflo. Does someone know if the FLo jet has a pressure switch on it? I looked allover and didn't see one. -
What's the most important feature in a wood sealer?
seymore replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Is there a sealant oil better than parafinic for Cedar and PT wood? Are some oils better in pennetrating than others? I have always known parrafinic oil being the best for Cedar and PT wood per the Texas Forest Service. I also know here in the south where linseed ,veggie oil is a no no cause of all the humidity. -
what happened?
seymore replied to Chappy's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
That veggie oil in that Deckscapes is probally not the best oil base stain for humid Florida. You could have a pretty bad mildew problem. -
What's the most important feature in a wood sealer?
seymore replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
It was hard to choose one choice in the poll cause the combinations of the oils, mildewcide, pigment are all important. I know what you mean Henry some customers will question everything little thing about your work.Mostly it's the new customers not knowing anything about your company and the product you use. Do you give your customers choices of stains and use only those or use a stain of their choice? I only work with only 1 stain so it helps not having to have product knowledge about every stain on the shelf.Since most stains aren't worth the time to apply them anyway. So when i inform my customers of the test results of the Texas Forest Service on our stain. They are assured the stain is of the highest quality available. -

I agree about mildewcide also and is very important. The product i use actually gets extra mildewcide added in it due to the tropical climate here in Houston. -

Ditto what Jim said and having enough pigment in the stain for it to hold up atleast 2 yrs "oil base semi trans" -

I pay less than $1 a gallon for 12.5% Sodium hypochlorite in 55 gal drums delivered no deposit.Real cheap here in Houston but we do have tons of chem companies around.

My thoughts exactly it sounds too good to be true for 25 years of life. Sounds too fishy for me to believe.
