Fence Cleaning
seymore replied to Outlaw's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Gav That's 1300 Lft or Sqft? You should get a better sqft per gallon# for cedar versus PT pickets and look better too. Lot less waste on the PT pickets I've never sprayed RS but the Gray Away i use i get 150-175sqft per gal. most of the time -

Fence Cleaning
seymore replied to Outlaw's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Outlaw Just do a light cleaning on the fence should be fine. I use light bleach and soap/rinse then now a light Ox acid to brighten it up. Mostly the treated pine there is mildew and mud on rot boards, 2X4's and post. The cleaning of the new pickets will help the sealant soak in better. I was just in Magnolia the other day looking at a job in High Meadow Ranch. You do a lot of staining up in Magnolia? -
Here is deck/dock I treated 3 yrs ago in Taupe.Treated today in Taupe again it took 17 gallons and 5 hrs. Also treated and arbor and a trellis at this house

Cedar Siding?
seymore replied to svp07's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Everett I was meaning most houses in my area are around that price.Yeah Steve is in Joisy like you so he would be in that higher price range like you are saying at 8K.WOW you are getting almost 10K for cedar houses. Are those houses cedar only or are they mixture of cedar and stone and brick work ? -
Cedar Siding?
seymore replied to svp07's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I would usually say most houses would run 3 to 4k to clean and stain depending on the size.I don't know how much painters charge to paint a house but i know it's not cheap. You have all the windows to cut in and cover up also concrete to cover or wet down. I like staining houses but i much rather staining decks and fences regularly.Houses can be very hard and tedious if you have stone and other brick work. So price according to the amount of work and time plus stain. -
Cedar Siding?
seymore replied to svp07's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I usually price cedar houses by the amount of cleaning needs to be done.Does it need stripping & P/washing? Estimate how long it will take to stain the job and how much stain the job will take. Will you have a lot of brush work ? -
Steve We get 10% sodium hypochlorite in 55 gallon drums from a Co. called Bates chemical in Dayton. Did you try calling around chem companies in Pasadena?

painting deck
seymore replied to JFife's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I would strip it just in case your paint might peel and crack over time because of the old semi under it. I'm not a painter tho so that's my nickel's worth. Sounds like alot of work ahead for you good luck Jon. -
Deck mildew after 2 months.
seymore replied to Atlantic Power Washing's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Is that Wolmans water base or oil base? Is the mildew on the surface? Will it wipe off the top or is in the grain of the wood? Could be the trees around the deck dropping something if it's on the surface. That sap not much you can do about that but scrap and sand it then touch up it up.I usually leave some touch up and let the homeowner touch up over time. -
I had a plastic fitting crack on me a few months ago. So i'm back to using brass fittings now and just don't tighten them to hard. I go through lawn mower batteries very often (Wal Mart brand) So I switched to the smallest car battery which I spray with for days with.Bigger battery also helps the pump prime faster to me.They are heavy to carry but last forever with out recharging.

Here is a section of the HUGE deck and dock we stained 7yrs ago.As you can see it's been way past due to be re-stained.I had to bleach and P/wash 10 hrs of P/washing! Will post the stained pics Tues when I'm done

seymore replied to seymore's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Thanks Steve This deck was almost $4000 clean and seal. Bleached and P/washed all of it didn't have to strip all of it off just alot of mildew.I stained it with Baker's Gray Away Taupe in 97 so it was way over due re-applyed the Gray Away this time also
