  8. Here are more pics of the 5000 sqft deck/dock.I ran out of day light to take some cleaned after pics the same day.
  9. I hear ya Rod $20 roll of plastic is a lot better then spending your time cleaning up stains. When i stain my arbors enclosed in plastic 1.5 mil works great. When in case i have a stone patios under it we're talking layers and even water at times.I've had the pin hole or 2 in the plastic so I've learned my lesson to put layers. My last job that was 1200 sqft i used 1-12'x200' roll and a 8' x 200' I work mostly around hardy plank and brick not much vynal here.
  10. Cool Jesse i'm glad that worked for you  I've also learned to not make that mistake again or atleast try to be more aware of the drips b4 they dry.
  11. Yeah sorry i was thinking of a house that it had aluminum that was such a pain if it dries.
  12. Jesse When i get oil base stain on concrete i use Xylene or MEK scrub it real well.It might take a few tries to get it out but it worked for me.Simple green for the vynal cause the strong chems will take the paint off
  13. I'm looking for more work on those rainy days like today and yesterday and the day before that. I have alot of these canvas boat covers around they have mildew/dirt,spider webs pretty bad.I've used bleached/soap then p/washed to clean them before and they streaked real bad.I didn't like how they looked when they were wet now when dried wasn't too bad. :dunno: So i'm looking for a good fast working chemical safe around the water to clean them. Also something that won't harm a boat if it's parked under it.
  14. Redwood?

Looks good Steve can't wait to see it when it's done.
  15. I've used MEK and Xylene before worked great cept for taking the paint off.I'll try using stripper next time tho. Beth did the stripper you use take some paint off the siding?
  16. Feel like moving

Miles of concrete here in Houston Alan and oh yeah enough mildew to keep you busy for a while.
  17. Aol Im 5.5

I've been using 5.5 for a long time no problems here. Yikes his system won't not even turn on! If he can get it to turn on he can restore it if he has XP. He might have a bad power supply for it not even turning on.
  18. Redwood?

Gavin Is that 2nd. deck wet or dry? This is the redwood color i use mostly on cedar fences like this one fence is about 2 yrs. old.
  19. cedar siding

Do a test area with some cleaner or stripper to see what needs to be done.DId they say if it was sealed with anything? You probally seeing dirt and mildew from being so dark.
  20. That's funny Pros I get the i wanna pay "cash" discounts too ...moslty from higher tax brackets..hmmmmm Like my bank is gonna charge me to cash their check huh
  21. Jon :rotfl: That's too funny i know exactly where you coming from!! Yeah PaulB was right that man knows his business I agree with him completely. My only construction build a fence during the winter or change out a few boards every now and then.I like it that way I'll take staining over deck building anyday!! I wish i could do more log homes like most of you guys.People here choose to build cedar vs.log homes for some reason.I've done a few not many the sealant just didn't soak in to fast being under the porch.I wish i could get more experiance on log homes! I totaly agree with you fire a price at em you never know.I just let my pics speak for themselves and 7rs exp.sells myself for me.I eat, breath and sleep wood restoration i tell em.:) I've had the"You are too high" before and i get a call from them to come help them and now their price is even higher.Having to strip off some crappy finish that wasn't done right. MY fav.was repeat "older" customer asking for a "senior citizens discount" :rotfl:
  22. Chems for cleaning canvas boat covers?

Will pre-carbs effect my dock's stain to where i might have to touch up?
  23. Chems for cleaning canvas boat covers?

I'll try that Jim what pre-carbs are anygood off the shelf of the Depot so i can try?
  24. Jon Good post i agree with you completely about specializing in restoring decks or new construction. You will find tons of p/wahers in the yellow pages but try to find someone to specialize in decks is next to impossible here. Most of my jobs are also in that 400k & up range for the most part higher on the lakes and country clubs. I'll get a customer every now and then ask for some repairs or painting ets...I'm like you I know a good painter, carpenter you can call. I get most of my jobs from customer referals, deck Co.'s and real estate developers for subdivisions i have contracts for.My prices are fair for this part of the country I think. I don't know of much competition around here in Hou.We don't even need to do any advertising now or have in a few yrs. I'm backed up almost 2 months and counting with all the rain!! What kinda decks you work mostly on in Tn. cedar-PT?
  25. Chems for cleaning canvas boat covers?
