I like the design of that deck and the 2x12 under the screened porch has a trippy looking wood grain!
Can't wait to see it finished!

That's a great looking deck Tony nice job love those 2 tones!
It's not as solid looking as i thought a semi solid would look.

Good luck with that let us know how it goes...
You investing in that fancy trailer?

Lets hear the good or the bad about Wood Defender StainI see a lot of people selling their great staining over priced rigs. Who needs a 5K rig to stain fences and decks anyway I don't get it ....
They called me years back trying to get me to switch stains telling me the Cumberland Brown was made to compete with the Gray Away Cedar Dark I wasn't going for it. I didn't like that copycat approach and I wasn't impressed with the stain either the sample they sent me just didn't look right.
I can't remember all the problems I have heard guys have had with WD but it didn't even make the stain poll Beth created for 2013 I don't hear about it much..
Is anybody still using WD?
Are you looking to try WD stains Gene? You know what it's selling for per 5?

I can get you all the stain you need in plastic buckets all day long Rick! :o)
I bet those metal buckets weigh more for shipping?
BTW the reason buckets are sucking in now cause they have to be more bio degradable and it's the mineral spirits evaporating through the plastic from what I've heard.
P.S can't they give you a metal can with a spout to pour that's AC has for their metal cans..

sheet of cardboard
That's what i was going to say cardboard but i usually paint pad the excess from under the rail and blend it it like Rick said feather it in. I think it's going to lighten up for you in time to where you never see it.

Alright,Luckily I took some photos while I was on the job. These photos are after I washed with the precarb cleaner. I haven't used a brightener on it yet, and i don't plan on it until i'm fully satisfied.

Yeah there is still some grey on it 1 part 12% 4 parts water some soap then pressure wash again then brighten.

Hey Seymore,If your doing an old fence with lots of dirt and grime on it, do you strip it instead of using precarb or bleach... even if there's no stain? The reason i'm asking is because i'm currently doing a fence that is in similar condition to the one you posted. I was using precarb, but there is still lots of soiled (darkened) spots on it, especially around the knots. If I put any more pressure on it, the wood will fur on me, and i'll have to spend a day dealing with that. Do you have any advice for me? Thanks.
Trevor
I'll add some stripper about a cup to a light bleach mixture wash/rinse real good and then brighten. I would rather minimize the use of stripper as much as possible as it will fur up on you more.Sometimes you can't stop the furring depending on the age of the wood it's just bound to happen.
It sounds like a bleach mixture make those black spots go away but it's hard to tell with out pics?

NICE WORK ........Looks good as usualThanks Gene!
You staying busy this Spring?

Will do... had one guy work one day and not show up again and i thought it was an easy day he only brushed in a 3' gate by hand. SMH

It's not even funny how busy I am with 3500 lft 2 sides of fence to stain next week. I just got a call for a 1K of fence to stain and tell he me has 6 K for me to stain soon! That's not including some homeowner fences to stain plus decks that are waiting. Note: fence companies are great to work for all new fences and long fences too!
I need some good help to hire i'm not going to make it thru the summer!

20 square blocks is a pretty big area to set up a perimeter around and conduct an exhaustive search of all the areas. It worked, suspect in custody.
Yeah I know what you mean mission accomplished!

Well a deck that old and dry a semi solid was a good choice. If I was you push the semi solid on older decks instead of the semi trans and I bet you get a better sqft /gal on those older decks with a semi sold?
